If you're interested in western books check out Louis L'Amour. I'm not a big western reader myself but really enjoy his books. Idk where you are from but I've always had good luck at thrift stores pretty much anywhere in the US. He was a prolific writer as well so many many to choose from.
This is a must-see for me. Great Westerns have always been a mainstay of classic movies. Costner is a master at this. And I think this will be a fair recounting of history for all involved.

Perhaps one day they will get some form of cinematic honor. Please look up the historical accounts as I was quite amazed learning the history of the west. Blessings
I love that this a 2 part movie. Instead of stuffing everything into 2 hours, or making some overlong Scorsese type of film, tell the entire story over time. This is what we need more of.

It's filmed around Moab. Not sure if there were scenes down around St. George or not, but definitely moab. I was literally hunting in the LA Sals when they were filming the winter scenes, drove by the film operation daily.
