High Luxury Is Out, Realistic Luxury Is In!

  • Waiting in lines, rude interactions with sales associates who practically hate their jobs and enjoy humiliating customers, taken for granted by arrogant brands, and last but not least, spending thousands of money just to end up with low-quality products that disappoint us. This is what luxury has become recently, and I hate it with passion. I still crave that precious luxurious experience though.
Thankfully, there are still some brands that deliver not only the quality, but also the customer service and fair price point that will please us all. I actually made two videos about the brands that still feel luxurious - one about the high-luxury, and the other about the mid-luxury brands. So if you are interested in the topic, I would highly suggest you watch those videos back to back.
I want to know what you think of luxury. What is luxury to you? How would you describe it? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

I had the pleasure of being in Paris, France this past summer and finding the Atelier Auguste boutique in Le Marais district. I met the two brothers behind the brand and learned how the brand came to be. I was immediately drawn to, and purchased, the medium size Marley bag in smoothe black leather with gold hardware. The shoulder strap was a bit too long for my size, and they happily took it into their workshop and added 3 more holes to the shoulder strap so that I could adjust it easily to the length that suited me. Since bringing it home to Toronto (Ontario, Canada), and wearing it multiple times, it has remained as luxurious and elegant as the moment I saw it in the boutique. True luxury is in the materials and craftsmanship, and this bag exudes that.

I also had the pleasure of meeting the brothers last week visiting the Ateliers Auguste store. All the purses are so light yet so luxurious I ended up purchasing 3 of their bags. And they also offered to make the extra hole on the strap so the length was perfect. I’m so happy with the experience. 100% will go back ❤

To me luxury means: the best natural fiber/materials, high-quality construction, longe-lasting functionality and an elegant restraint in design.

I'm a big fan of Michael Kors. I have bags from him that I'm still using after 10 years, and they still look great! The Michael, Michael Kors line is also a great value. I think Hermes, although beautiful, would not be something I'm interested in anymore since I found out that you have to make a quota and practically beg them to take your money. Ridiculous

Luxury and brand names are like ART. You should buy what your eyes love, what matches your taste, what is quality but never buy a piece just because of its brand name, unless you are in the retail business and it is an investment. The most valuable pieces will stay in your closet if you did not get attracted to them when you were out shopping..

A bag can include silver tone metal hardware and still be luxury. It will depend on the user's preference. There's palladium, platinum, rhodium, among others that are deemed precious metals.

    • @kalinnaslay
      @kalinnaslay Před 6 měsíci +4

@kurisuchan07 not necessarily. I seen people buy certain bags that come in gold hardware and have had really low resale. It depends how coveted or hyped the bag is. Remember, gold hardware gives the antique or old money look but silver tone gives off a younger, much modern vibe to the accessory.

In the late 90's my mom bought me a Kenneth Cole bag that was heavily discounted due to the department store, Bullock's, going out of business. I used it everyday for about 3 years, then I got tired of it and put it away and forgot about it, unless I happened upon it while looking for something else. I never got rid of it as I still liked it. It's one of the few bags I've kept for so long. I recently took it to a leather repair shop to see if it might benefit from some professional care. The lady told me it was actually in very good shape (I've tried to keep it in good condition while I stored it away) and as it was real lambskin (something I didn't realize), it just needed a gentle conditioning that could be done at home.

Never was a fan of luxury brands. However, in recent years, i got a little beside myself. My first bag is a little over 10 years old its been fabulous. It has a bit of aging ...(maybe it's just dirt)
But so far i have not had any issues. The quality downcast and price surge is an ongoin thing for a long time and yes that very unfortunate

Luxury is high quality pieces, good materials, great stitching, great customer service.
I laugh at the so called high end luxury where people bend over backwards to get mediocre stuff for way too much money and crappy treatment.

I DETEST yellow gold hardware. Absolutely hate it. I only wear white gold, and it's soooo difficult to find a brand that offers silver-toned hardware/trim. So this is, unfortunately, a deal breaker for me. "Luxury'' isn't even a word I care about or look for in my bags. I want QUALITY and good value for my money. When I think of ''luxury'' I think of high maintenance, and I have no interest in that. My things serve me, I don't serve my things.

London Fog isn't considered a luxury company but it does have a mystic behind it. The first time I bought their winter coat was about twenty years ago. Every so often people have asked me about it because the edges around the brown coat have a slight black hue to it. It goes around all the edges of the pocket, the collar, etc.. People love the look and actually think that was part of the design when it's not. It's just normal wear and tear. I bring this up because the term "grow old gracefully" is rarely used when it comes to cloths nowadays. A slight imperfection and suddenly it becomes the latest donation to Goodwill. Which is sad. Because there is something reassuring about seeing someone wearing older designs. There is a shared history which isn't spoken but acknowledged when the wearer is given a second secret glance.

True! love my old London Fog raincoats, but the quality has really decreased. It seems they have phased our their trench coats now, it’s a shame, it’s the only thing I ever bought from them.🙂

I've got a vintage Celine bag that has the old monogram very subtle and canvas with a zipper along the top which is curved a bit like an Alma but the leather has been treated. It is a classic and need to wear it more now it's summer in Australia. The clean lines no slouchiness sets it apart and it looks great with denim and white or blue cotton dresses etc.. It also has a shoulder strap. it's great.
