Skin on Frame Seakayak (4/4: Fabric and Maiden Voyage)

- It's a bummer to wrap the frame in fabric but it reveals the boats shape for the first time!
In this case Nylon is used as a skin, sewn together with dental floss. All the Staples are just temporary and have been removed afterwards. The Skin is coated with a two part polyurethane.

Hallo Flo und Grüße aus Wuppertal. Ich habe es mit einem Bügeleisen ausprobiert - das Problem ist, dass die Hitze das Öl aus dem Frame in das Gewebe treibt. Ich habe das Gewebe nass verarbeitet und sehr stark gespannt, mit dem Ergebnis bin ich zufrieden: Erst wenn es einige tage feucht bleibt gibt es etwas nach.
I am about to skin my first kayak with nylon. Does soaking the nylon help to stretch/shrink it tight. Will any other coating stick to nylon other than 2 pack poly. Thanks for excellent videos.
Soaking nylon will strech it. I had good results using 2 part Polyurethane. Happy Skinning :)

В Америке, дорогой ....я тоже ищу планы ,чертежи, живу в Германии, нашёл курсы в сентябре, но дороговато 2500€и лодка твоя , строить где-то неделю , можно купить план ,чертежи ,но всё на английском

Moin! Ich habe das Nylon nass gespannt. Das erhitzen habe ich auch einmal ausprobiert, das trieb allerdings das Öl aus dem Frame. Gruß aus Wuppertal.

Oh NO! Why use staple gun? Just put the work into it..it becomes part of you when finished. Extra tiny holes?
I think the staples were temporary. Looks like he covered the hull and deck with two separate sheets, ended up without the seam down the middle of the deck that so often ends up crooked. You can see him removing the black woven strap and staples at one point. I'm intrigued by this method. Very nice final product.
i used them temporarily to do a side seam. The fabric i used isn't realy suited for the point pressure of the temporary cross-stitching. I stapled through a belt strap to remove the stables once the hull was closed.

Hallo, ich spiele auch mit dem Gedanken ein SOF Kajak zu bauen, ich finde nur keine Stelle wo ich preiswert 2 Komponenten PU für die Beschichtung herbekomme. Darf ich fragen wo sie ihren bezogen haben?
