Just found your account a week ago and I can’t stop watching! I’ve started knitting over the past year and want to start some sewing projects. Your account has made me feel more confident in getting started and I really appreciate your slow approach to your work. Thank you!

I an knitting on a pair od yin yang kitty socks for a friend and sewing wise I will finish a pair of peppermint magazine's wide leg pants tomorrow (I made these in a stretch denim with lots of top stitching). I have also a pair of harlene dungarees cut out, I unravelled some unworn and moth nibbled jumpers and have to wind up all the yarns to repurpose them. perfect for winter.

Hello, that sounds like a lovely selection of projects! I haven't made the peppermint wide leg pants yet, but I know lots of people love them. I do use my harlenes a lot, I hope you enjoy them 😊 I quite enjoy all the topstitching!

I must apologize for my last post. I’m legally blind and autocorrect has a ball with my typos. I was encouraging you to look for guernsey patterns from smaller and/or local designers. There seems to be a rich history of knitting in the southern UK.
It is funny that I’ve found other people who appreciate the very same things as I do. I cherish handmade crafts from local artisans too. There is a different feel to those handmade items when I compare them to machine made goods. I dream to sewing my clothes. It is going to be quite an undertaking to learn to sew with a machine with my vision issues. Threading anything is an issue,. My husband threads the tapestry needle when I put buttons on my cardigans😂. The back of my buttons look like a dartboard as I can’t find the button holes😂😂. If you have any recommendations for sewing tutorials I would be very grateful. Have you found Marina Skua or Penny’s Chinwag? They have similar values/interests as you do.thank you!💗💗

Hello, thanks so much for your comment and the recommendations. I will definitely look up the other podcasts. I completely agree with you on handmade items, and how they feel. Whenever I use them they also remind me of what was happening when I made them (what I was listening to, or what I could smell etc). I know Tilly and the Buttons can be good for beginners, and they have lots of videos. I found this resource for sewing with visual impairment, I've no idea what it's like in practice, but there may be the odd useful tip? Good luck with it! It sounds like something you'd love to do. Hopefully using heavily textured things will help. Sorry of it's not useful, but pasting here just in case: www.tsbvi.edu/independent-living-library/skills/clothing-care-sewing-techniques-for-visually-impaired-or-totally-blind-students#:~:text=I%20recommend%20using%20pins%20with,seam%20guide%20to%20sew%20straight.

love the jumper and the video. I relate to you so much haha, especially all the where-is-my-button-oh-its-in-the-bed(?) energy. I just came back from a visit to Rye in East Sussex and got so many lovely M&M fabrics. I'm going to make a Miller waistcoat in a sturdy pinky striped cotton, and a linen swooshy dress in their Lazy Day blue/gold check linen. Hope you had a good time in Copenhagen too!

Love the idea of the sewing retreat! I would love to go to that what a lovely idea ❤ loving all your current makes too. My current projects are trying to squeeze in time to make my baby’s first Christmas stocking with a piece of vintage festive remnant I found in a charity shop. And also to finish some bunting for his first birthday at the end of December. Feels like I’ll never get around to them but trying to use my evenings for crafts as well as chores and sleep and resettling the babe! Any tips on making a stocking? X

Oh brilliant, well I'd love to have you 😊 it'll be so nice to meet people in really life and have a lovely creative weekend. The vintage fabric sounds lovely for making a stocking! I was wondering about making a Christmas gifts/ using up scraps episode, if I have quite enough time. I often make stockings. I free handed a shape I liked, then added seam allowance and a lining. You could then bind the raw edges, leaving a loop to hang at the top, or create a cuff. I'll see about putting a little guide together!

What a lovely surprise to see a video from you pop up this morning! You have been so busy and I hope you finish your projects by Christmas so you will get to wear them as planned. Everything you choose colour wise is just so beautiful and will go with everything you already have. I am more of a crafty and knitting person than a sewing person. I have just finished a Victorian sampler I ordered around Lockdown and am now finishing off a Jacobean Crewel embroidered wall hanging I also started at the same time. Both of these have been my Winter projects. I hope you have a lovely time away and have great fun looking around all those wool shops you will come across.

Hello, thanks for your lovely comment! Your winter projects sound beautiful. I do love a sampler and any type of fabric wall hanging. There's an American museum in Bath near me where they have several samplers from 1800s and lots of quilts. I find them so comforting to look at, I definitely recommend a trip if you're ever in the area.

Glad you're enjoying the videos! I'm sure you'll get there :) M&M do have lovely fabrics! Not sure if you're in the UK or not, but sometimes Simply Fabrics Brixton have good value cotton checks or cotton vichy fabric that is lovely, but doesn't feel like such a financial investment!

Also inspired by your little quilted squares. Such a good idea. I have too many scraps not big enough to do much else, yet too big to just toss into landfill.

I felted my knitted hat as well. Now it nearly rainproof. Tip: Use the dryer! A washingmaschine can not been stopped while the programm is running - but the dryer can. So it’s easy to check for size and no bad surprises.
Edit: I work on my second pair of jeans using anna allen helen pattern and I‘m hooked. I also made cord pants using that pattern and loving it. The pattern is well written and even a confident beginner (me) could sew the first pair of pants. Please do a video about the brand merchant and mills. I would like to order from them, but since brexit (I‘m from Germany - sorry for all the mistakes😅) I‘m a bit scared ordering.

Thanks for the tip on the hat! That's very useful and I'll definitely take your advice. I love the Anna Allen Helene jeans! I've also made cords from that pattern and they're probably my best fitting trousers. Glad you had a good experience too. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂

Just coming in here to say: Merchant and Mills is absolutely amazing!
I've ordered from them before (post-brexit) and it was fine. But if you'd rather not order, you could also make a long weekend out of visiting them. Rye (where their shop is based) is an absolutely lovely town to visit for a long weekend. They're only an hour or so out of london. I've just come out of the Eurostar train back from visiting them and it was an absolute joy: a tiny medieval village surrounded by nature reserve and harbouring cute shops. We were a bit hesitant to come all the way to the UK for Rye but it was a lovely long weekend and easily combinable with a stay in i.e. london or so. If you ever feel like visiting Rye, Merchant and Mills is keen to recommend places to visit/stay/eat if you email them.
