Hey Revit Auto, thanks a bunch for the video and how to fix the IAC. My family and I depend on our Lexus and money has been tight lately. This fix worked on our 1999 Lexus RX300 exactly as you have shown in your video! 😊
Lastly, it means a lot to my wife that I got our car up & running. It has a great deal of sentimental value since the original owner was my father-in-law who passed away back in January 2021. My wife took it pretty hard when her dad passed and our Lexus means the world to her since that is all she has left of him. That's how much of an impact your video had on my family's life. Thanks again and take care.
So glad we could help.
Thank you!! Our 2003 RX300 started, but wouldn't idle, exactly as you described. But, by following your instructions, my husband was able to fix the problem. He needed a little WD-40 to loosen the twin hoses after removing their 10mm clamps plus a little more and a couple of taps on the air control valve's screws to get them turning. But, after completing the job in less than an hour, the car runs better than before and you saved us a tow and a trip to a mechanic! Excellent how-to video! Thanks again!

I just did exactly what you did in this video and now the Lexus RX300 starts right up and has an idle. No more car stalling. Thank you very much sir!!

Dam, I was going to pay $125 diagnostic fee and then pay for whatever is wrong. You saved me a ton of money. thank you man.

I just wanted to thank you for your video, my wife's car RX300 2003 was doing exactly the same thing, and by following your instructions step by step I was able to fix it, we thank you very much! have a great day!

Done this twice (after lots of miles between) great fix and Lexus still an amazing car even 20 years later, this and oil changes all it's ever had done
oh and on third battery
Definitely consider changing the serpentine belt
Fabulous! All the other CZcamsrs need to watch your way of explaining and showing. Instead of wasting our time with a bunch of extra opinions and such. Thank you so much!
Haha this made me giggle. I feel the other guys are trying their best. IT also helps that I work on a tv show and have picked up a few tips and tricks from the pros.
Thanks a million. All points were spot on, down to the screw stripping. Fixed mine in 30 minutes and running great. Saved a few hundred dollars.
Thats what I love to read! Thank you for sharing, Happy Motoring-Blair
Totally should ask for his paypal info and send him an early x-mas gift ;p
Thank you very much for your video. I own a 2000 Toyota Windom 3.0G in Japan, which is the same model as the ES300 in America. In my case, the idle speed would not drop below around 1200, so I tried the same method and the idle became low and stable. If anyone is considering replacing the IAC valve, I think they should do this first.

Truly great video. Thank you. I bought my 2002 new with 4 miles on it in Nov 2002. Now with 168,250 it has been a blessing of incalculable value. Mine runs really well. I just replaced the pcv valve which I strongly recommend every do every 30k miles. A $10 part and a 10 minute fix does wonders. I also run a can of BG 44k in tank (pour in before filling with gas) every 10k miles. This keeps the throttle body and lots of other parts squeaky clean.

4:44. At that point, I take the hose off and block off the exit pipe that's attached to the idle control valve. I then fill up the breather hole with throttle body cleaner until it over flows. I then move the wheel back and forth. I then fill it again as some drains out and repeat. I then leave it for a few minutes, then I unplug the pipe. Doing this fills the chamber and cleans the underside of the value which is what actually gets clogged up preventing it from moving freely. I also take the opportunity to clean the throttle bodies and butterfly valves. You can see the dark edges around the butterfly valves which just need a few squirts of the cleaner then a soft tooth brush and a clean lint free polish cloth to wipe down. On this vehicle, they're operated by the throttle cable. You can engage the throttle cable to open the valves which means it's not drive by wire and no problem with touching the actual butterfly valves, very carefully and gently still.

Very helpful video, thanks for the tip about stripping the screws, I had the same issue. Performed the same task and fixed my IAC.
Really glad this video helped! Happy Motoring!!
This fixed my problem on my 1994 Lexus ES300. It was quick, easy and inexpensive! Thanks for the video.
i have 2000 lexus es300 spent alot of money on it changed almost everything but still the vibration and stalling is there, I don't know if this is the solution

Great video - solved my problem without needing to go to mechanic as planned. My 2000 rx300 wouldn't idle, leading to the engine not starting. NOTE: In the video, they forgot to reconnect the small, clampless vacuum hose that was removed at the start of the video.

Thank you for the video, great information on how to repair. The screws can be issue. Had to remove the air box to make room for hand impact tool, even that didn't seem to budge (housing not that sturdy didn't hit to hard). Soaked with pb blaster and grabbed with small vise grips. Was able to finally rock and remove the screws. They seem to freeze in the housing not the threads.

Sounds like my problem. Step by step is great. I am going to do it in the morning. Hope the screws hold up. Thanks much.
Hey same here. If I were you, I would tap the screws or the surrounding solid metal body of the IAC to the loosen those screws prior for better removal. Today I did it, and tapping it with a hammer helped a lot! If it weren't for that, for sure I would've stripped them.

Thinking about doing this. Letting throttle body cleaner drip out and land on all the plastic/rubber hosing beneath doesn't ruin their reliability? Cause them to crack or break?
nice video, had the same problem and strip out one of the screw too

Saved me hella diagnosing. IAC was completely stuck no flow. Increased my gas mileage and lean condition
Thanks a lot for this tutorial ... this is exactly how I solved the problem on the car. 10+ 👏👏👏

Great vid. I also stripped the screw heads. got new 5 mil bolts from auto parts store. Did whole process in about 40 minutes.
Thank you for informative video.
Hey! Thank you for sharing!!!
Can you share the thread and pitch I will add it to the description! And part number if it’s a kit!
Sorry, I just handed it to the guy behind the counter and he said these 5 mil bolts should work.
Again thanx for video.
First time a couple of years ago I did this my check engine light went off as did the VSC, but a couple hundred miles later they came back on. I did it again last year and same thing. Is there a reason for this?
Nice video I learned something thanks 👍 also the house behind you looks nice and huge what state?
OKBAOK glad this video helped! And yes that house is massive filled with old cars that need tons of work. It's in Potomac MD. Has a pool a pond two guest houses a salon for your hair (the owner cuts hair) crazy place.
Great solution. I had the same problem. I did fix it this morning. Thanks a lot.
Awesome this helped! I got a friend also named Fabrice from Togo
I've had to do this job twice on my ES300. I've found it easier to just remove the whole throttle body assembly and take it apart on a table or bench. I did it once to clean it and another to replace the Felpro gaskets I put on with toyota gaskets because the felpro gaskets were too think and caused it to seep coolant.
3:33 Doh!!!! Nice vid still bro
Great Job!

Can this be done without removing the plastic motor housing? By spraying the cleaner in the port and flushing it out through the lower tube?
Great video, when smoke testing the intake manifold do I have to set engine to TDC or not,?
Reason why I’m asking is because I get smoke out from oil cap & dip stick when removed.
Thank you for your response. I removed everything as in video. Pretty simple. I cleaned everything and used q-tips until I was satisfied it was clean. Intake was cleaned throughly. All hoses placed back. I replaced Philip screws with new stainless steel screws. Start up was not normal because of excess carb cleaner but then idle remained at 2000 and climb to 3000. Depressing the accelerator did not help.
Jimmy, be sure to comment on the same comment thread. It makes it easier for other people with similar problems to follow the diagnostic. Thank you for the more in-depth look at what was going on. I would go ahead and take everything apart, make sure that the idle air control valve is moving freely and not just stuck in the open position. Upon reinstallation double check every single hose connection and verify that they are all tight with no leaks. If you accidentally leave a hose on, you will have the condition that you describe. They call it a vacuum leak. If you recheck everything and there is nothing wrong upon visual inspection your idle air control valve may need to be replaced as it could be in the stuck open position. Be sure to take it apart and assemble again! Let me know what you find! -Blair
@@Revitauto great advice and will recheck everything once more. Your video was very informative will save many.

Great and informative video. Having similar issues with my 2000 RX300, Other than hard starting did you have any other problems such as bucking after short drive, code such as P0171?
check engine light? car has 140k on it Im sure there is a lot of buildup of carbon and crud.
Would appreciated any thoughts.
Go for a long drive going about 80 miles an hour. That will clean out any carbons

Any suggestions for my 1999 lexus es300? Low idle. Slow stuttering take offs. Wont shift into 4th gear. Please help
You made it look do able,I think I’ll try it, MUCH MAHALO’S from Hawaii
Howzit brotha! Learned that from my buddy Colin Jevens!
Thanks so much for this video. Is there a trouble code associated with this problem?
Thank you!!!
You're welcome! Glad this video helped!
Beforehand, thanks for a detailed informational video about the problem. I have a question about what spray did you use for cleaning, does it need any specific spray? and is it available this problem will appear later?
Piss
@@tr8086 did it work for you?
NICE
Thanks for the GREAT DETAILED video; the engine in my 2001 Toyota Sienna is identical to the one in your video! Was unable to remove the IAC from the engine to clean it in the same way you did; the screws would not budge. However, I removed the tube from below the IAC, plugged it and then sprayed cleaner into the hole in front of the butterfly valve until it was full, let it sit for about 30 seconds, removed the plug and let the cleaner drain, waited a while to dry before reassembling everything. This appeared to fix the start/idle problem so far. I think one of the screws on my IAC is stripped. In video you said one of the screws on your IAC was also stripped; how did you remove it? And how did you loosen the other screw?
Great video I did everything the exact same way came out great

Hi guys you have any video information about Lexus RX 300-2003 thanks 🙏🙏👋👋
Thanks great it’s very good information thanks 🌹🙏🌹
Thanks for liking :D! Happy Motoring-Blair
Good video. I went ahead and actually replaced the IACV and upon start-up the engine now idles too high at about 2000 rpm. It also cycled a couple of times between 2000 and 2500 a couple of time, but won't drop below 2000. Any suggestions?
Most likely there is vacuum leak. Check all of your connections!
Just fixed mine. Thanks
Great to hear that. 💪
does this apply to the 2004 model as well..
Hello does the gs300 lexus 2006 have a Idle air control valve? Can't seem to locate it
The reason so many are stripping that screw is because it is NOT a Phillips head screw driver. When the dot is on the screw head that means it’s a Japanese type of screw similar to the Philips head screw but has a slightly different head profile than our American Phillips heads
They are Japanese Industrial Standard screw heads. The screwdrivers can be found online.
Better to order before you need than.
That is so cool! Thank you for sharing, could you please post a link to those?!
Which cleaner did you use?
Can I use carb cleaner as well?
Brake cleaner instead of throttle body cleaner?
Hey I have a very important question I did exactly what was in the video to the exact same car and when I took out the two Phillips screws from the sensor mine did not turn freely and was stuck completely I cleaned mine just like you showed me and then it was so smooth afterwards it turned really freely so I put it all back together exactly in the way that you showed and exactly the way I took it apart, now the car starts right up better and different in a good way then before but my RX300 is now idleing high at 3000 RPM’s or a little higher and I did not do that before ….. is there some kinda way to have the car relearn the sensor or something ??? Please help because I can’t drive the car at all now because it’s ideling way to high to put into gear ?? Please please help me thank you and your videos are the best
Thank you so much for the detail!! I think what you are fighting is a vacuum leak and not a sensor relearn issue.
Check all of the connection in the car for air that would enter the engine in a location it is not supposed to.
Check for loose hoses and intake boots that aren’t put on all the way. You will likely find it to be a quick and simple hose unplugged !
I will check here again to see how your progresses
My cat 2000 RX 300. Did this same thing without me having done any changes. Kind of scary when you are expecting your car to cruise to a stop and instead it speeds up.
In my case the cable or something got stuck occasionally. I cleaned it up with WD-40 I think and have never had the problem since.
What is the liquid that you used named ?
Are you located close to Vegas? I have a 2001 that cranks but will not start. I have sprayed starter fluid in there and still just cranks.
Would you know if this is common to the ES 300 Sedan? Perhaps a different physical appearance but same concept? I just replaced the battery and think the ES300 would warn me that the alternator is the problem if there was an alternator problem. Mine is running rough and stalls do to low idle. She runs well at highway speeds in that she seems to have full power. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Bill
Hey Bill this is a common issue among all vehicles. If you es 300 has the same motor than the video will help you too! Same concept different air cleaner box. Happy Motoring! Report back with your results! -Blair
@@Revitauto I'm not sure what happened but the history was that I had filled the tank with 93 octane fuel in prep for selling the es300. Very oddly the battery died and had to be replaced so maybe the change in octane and a minor computer reset with the removal of the battery might have had something to do with the stalling. It's cleared up now but I'm still on the same tank of fuel, I'm curious to see what happens if the fuel returns to 87 octane,
Hello...did this job on my Rx300 to fix a hesitation on acceleration. It worked. The same problem came back. I did it again. I May have sprayed to much carb cleaner. Now the RPMs stay stuck at 2500 to 3000. Any ideas ?
How long is the car idling high.? Did you just spray cleaner in there or take it all apart and clean it?
Hello Revit Auto, my 2000 Lexus ES 300 starts out with very slow pick up - it sounds and preforms like a 4 cylinder.. Once I get up to about 40mph, the acceleration returns to normal. Could this likely be a Throttle Body position sensor problem? Thanks!
Any suggestions for my 1999 lexus es300? Low idle. Slow stuttering take offs. Wont shift into 4th gear. Please help
1MZ-FE correct? My 2000 Lexus ES300 is having this issue.
It will be very similar for your repair!
Did you get a check engine light after this video?
I noticed at 9:26 you forgot to connect that “one other little vacuum hose” that connects to that smaller black air box.
“ don’t ask how know the check engine light comes on when you forget to reconnect that small hose. 😂
Great video, easy to understand, after doing all that,it's still low idling when I start engine,I have to step on gas to make it normal idling.I found out the 2 hoses going to it had holes, but I patched it up temporarily while waiting for my order, would putting new hoses make it start better?
If you have a vacuum leak it will call the car to have similar issues to what you are experiencing.
That screw you stripped is not a Phillips screw. As all Japanese motorcycle mechanics will tell you "That's JIS" (Japanese Industrial Standard). VESSEL makes good JIS screwdrivers.
when you put the black motor back and screw it in, shouldnt you calibrate it, i mean by turning the motor around until you get the optimal ideal speed?
Sorry, Jerrin I am not entirely sure how to answer your question? Can you rephrase the question?
How To Put The Idle of Lexus Little Higher. So It Does Not Turn Off on
Nothing Messed Up About Car. I'm Absolutely A Okay In The Lexus. I'm Keeping.
Hello! What was the product you used at 4:13? It's hard for me to hear in the video. Thank you!
I was using brake parts cleaner, but I would recommend you use throttle body cleaner. Much better and safer! Happy Motoring-Blair
Nice House!!!!
Yeah it is! The client built alot of it himself. Pretty cool guy. Cuts hair for a living!
@@Revitauto Wow... i mean, im a auto Mechanic/Technician with some ASE certs and Purchased my 09 C6 Corvette (profile pic) in 2010 and at the time many people asked how can a auto mechanic afford a New Corvette? (Simple: No kids, No Wife at the time, 20k down and great credit)
But CLEARLY im in the wrong buisness and shoulda been cutting hair as im looking at that Castle in the background behind you....smh.
On another note I appreciate your quick and prompt response. Great video BTW, and I'm glad you didn't edit out stripping that bolt because it shows you're human, shit happens, and it comes with the trade.
Hello, I tried this and couldn't get car to start after putting everything back together. Is there a chance I didn't let the brake parts cleaner dry out enough before putting it back together? Also, do you know where I can find a similar screw for the stripped one I need to replace? Thank you for any advice/insights.
Hello Wesley, can you try to start the car with the gas pedal slightly applied? As far as the hardware I would ask a dealer for a parts diagram and ask for the hardware that you are missing.
They will need your vehicles vin number.
Don’t stress! This is most likely a simple fix!
My 02 RX300,kicks into gear very hard, when accelerate,do you think the trans shift solenoid causes this symptom or it’s just a dirty clogged filter and old fluid or something else ? Thanks
I see you made another comment about a high idle. I would address the engine idle concern first and then check what is going on with the transmission after.
Carb cleaner works just as good right?
That would work very well! Even better !
I have a 2000 model rx300. The idling is rough at times. It goes up to 2 or 3 then, it seems to drive and idle normally...then outta nowhere it starts again. Could this be a dirty throttle body or something else?
It is really challenging to diagnose something without seeing the car. It is certainly possible that the Idle air control valve is causing the idle to be rough. Do you know the service history of the car? Has it had coils or spark plugs replaced recently? Are there any check engine lights? Thanks- Blair
Looks like a 1mz engine?
Can I use mass air flow sensor cleaner?
If it is all you have you can, throttle body cleaner would be better just be sure that everything drys out and don't get any in the intake as it is highly combustible! Work safely! Happy Motoring,
Blair
I did this and still have the issue change coils plugs motor runs smoothly but car stumbles when shift 1st to 2nd and still dying out of first couple starts any idea what this can be?
O man, I am not sure where to start on that one, I would need to come and take a look! Any chance you live near Washington D.C.?
Hi is this fix applicable for a 2004 RX330? Thanks!
This will be a similar process!! Good Luck! Let us know how it goes! Happy Motoring-Blair
Will a bad IACV cause the vehicle to run rich? Ty
It can, if IACV is not allowing enough air through your intake. But typically you'll have more symptoms then just running rich. Any other check engine codes? Does your vehicle start-up and idle ok? Need more info.
What happenes if I forget to unplug the last hose to drain it? I haven't attempted to start the car yet. Please and thank you for the response.
@Revitauto thank you in advance for the response.
IT IS NOT A PHILLIPS HEAD - the small dot indicates it is a JIS screw and you will strip JIS every time you work on a late model japanese car. If it had "stars" between the flutes it would be a Posidrive. There is a massive performance difference between each type.
