This brings back memories. I worked for a land leveling outfit in Nor Cal starting in 1972. Started out on a 2U D8 pulling a Cat 21 scraper. They had several D8 2Us, a couple of 21 pull scrapers and a Cat 80 pull scraper. They also had a fleet of DW20s- several 67Cs, a couple of 88Es, and even an old 21C which they converted to a waterwagon. They also had a D9 19A for pushing the 20s, then bought a 18A D9 to pull a big ripper. They eventually got a 66A D9 for pushing and a few 46As- the first 46A with the old diesel torque converter. Operators now days can be thankful for cabs. I spent many a miserable day eating dust.

MAn did that bring back memories. At 14 I was running a DW10 and an old 2U D8. Good times and hard work.

My Dad ran pulls, scrapers, loaders and dozers. I am hard on equipment, but I love watching them dig.

One big advantage of old equipment. No electronics to fail.

This pan reminds me of the old pans I ran in the Army. The tractors were either Cat or Clark and the bowls either Euclid or Westinghouse/Letournio.

I showed this video to my grandfather...he kindly reminded me that most operators back in the day worked 12 hour shifts...he said most people will think its cool to run the old stuff but imagine running it for 3 weeks straight...then given the opportunity to run a new one....he said f@## these machines he would rather be in the new cabs with climate control and a radio 😂....to each there own

Where's the D9? Sounds like that poor D8 was having trouble pushing the load. That D9 wouldn't had any trouble.

The guy on the scraper should do the bulldozer operator a favor, and go sign up for unemployment compensation 😭👎
