The driver close to the sea was so good.
When you leave the sand with your hands and showel around wheels, then you have to pound with little step forward and back, the area around the wheels to avoid to get stuck again.
Then they can also try to put branches in front of the wheles also.
Same thing you have to do in the most kind of snow, often sand and snow are very close you can consider sand like a snow more heavy.

Common issue for most of us.. Learn bit of Sand driving..
    1) Switch off Traction Control -It is not designed to work on true sand
    2) Reduce Tyre pressure to 15 PSI
    3) Engage Differential lock if you have.
    4) Use Manual gear in main gear
    5) 4 Wheel gear engage in Low setting
    6) Switch off Aircondition
    7) Gently Accelerate not more than 2-3 RPM -This will build up sand under the tyres
    8) Turn your wheel left to right gently as 45-degree angle .. tyres get more grips
Before go such places - Buy these Items
    1) Air Pump
    2) Matrax or any traction pads 4 of them
    3) Showel
    4) Rope wit connection U clips
    5) winch for your car capacity
    6) Sand winch anchor

Toyota gang will lynch you for daring to expose the fact that toyotas get stuck as much as any other vehicle. I've owned both LC100 and LR D2 TD5. Both great vehicles. I dont get the brand bashing that goes on by fanboys of 4x4 brands. Different vehicles suit different people. A good driver will make even a poor vehicle over perform. The reverse is also true.

We also had a pair of TRED recovery tracks but they became buried so deep in the sand we had trouble finding them.

You have to hold down the traction control button for 5 seconds to turn off the traction control and stabilitrak system on any gm, if you just press the button it will just turn off tracion control but the stabilitrak will still be engaged leaving you stuck in the sand

Nothing amazingly special about the Discovery - it's generally a bit more capable off-road than the other two, but in sand it's all about tyre pressure and driving technique. If you're stuck like that, take the tyre pressure down as low as possible (but not so low that you risk the tyre bead coming off the rim). 100 kPa or so is probably low enough. If you halve the tyre pressure you approximately double the tyre contact area.
I'm guessing the pick-up had stability control engaged instead of traction control, so when a wheel starts to spin, the engine cuts power. (Traction control allows full power, and instead applies the brake selectively to the spinning wheel, thus giving more torque to the wheels with better grip. So turning OFF stability control is essential, and turning ON traction control is helpful if the vehicle is equipped with it).

In response to all the tyre pressure comments.. The very first thing that we did was drop the tyre pressure to 12 psi.. Sorry its not in the footage.. It was the traction control system that was stopping this vehicle from moving forward.. 1st gear, low, flat to the floor, no movement... It was either possibly lose the vehicle to the sea or go get my Land Rover D2..end story..

If they held the the traction control button down for 7 seconds it disengages the tc. And esc. They would of drove straight out.

Disable traction control by holding in the button for 7 seconds otherwise it's still on. Use low range 4wd. This also makes traction control less annoying. When your car is going under, drop tire pressure to 8 or less psi. Don't try and drive up hill, head down first to get some speed. Take all your gear out of the vehicle and walk it up the beach. Hopefully this might help someone else in the same situation.
That being said, good on you for stoping and helping. Hope they brought you a beer.

Obviously the Disco is better set up for the conditions, and i've no doubt driven by a much more sensible driver, but i note the stuck 4wd was quite capable of driving through the sand up higher on the beach. pointing uphill even slightly really impedes progress in sand. the pajero showcases the importance of having enough ground clearance to keep the bottom of the car off the sand.

So it's Port Stephens area - North Beach at Port Macquarie is very similar and the wet sand on that beach is not firm, its just as soft and wet = more danger. Flat beaches will have hard compacted sand but those with a reasonable gradient towards the water are usally very soft and likely to cause drivers problems.

Probably the reason that they don’t “air down” their tyre’s is I doubt they would be smart enough to carry a compressor...sand driving = max trax and compressor as a minimum, snatch strap and fit for purpose recovery points wouldn’t hurt either...hmmm, it’s not hard...
Money spent to get bogged $40k - $ $50k, money spent to get out of bog if needed = $000...it hurts my brain watching videos like this...
