I'm surprised you did not talk about or show a size comparison with a native, papershell (Choctaw of Stuart) and a Podsednik. I purchased 2 Podsednik trees about 10-12 years ago and truly had a "bumper" crop this year. Note- I have to compete with the squirrels and crows to harvest. They taste, in my opinion, better than other papershells and are just as easy to crack in my closed fist or hand. My Podsednik nuts are the size of my thumb and just as long! One other note, I planted my trees in my yard which also has hickory, post oak and red oak trees nearby. From my picture you can see, I also keep Italian honeybees to help pollinate the trees.

I have fond memories of my dad throwing a basketball up into the tree to knock pecans down. Not incredibly efficient but it worked. 😆

I have an enormous pecan tree very close to my house, like less than 10 feet from my back door. It doesn't seem to be as large or thin shelled as the "paper shell" trees that grow on my parent's land, that were grafted. They are at least as big as the last digit of a person's thumb. They don't have as good of flavor, as compared to the ones we called "native." These native varieties were much smaller, and had a much richer, sweeter flavor.

If I ever own land, I'll definitely be planting pecan trees.
