I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who realized that many of the songs on Utopia were old/gifted/recycled tracks since every time I finished listening to the album, I found myself wondering what Travis has been up to over these past five years. I still love Utopia though, can't live a day without listening to it from beginning to the end!
This has been me everytime I listen to Utopia trust me I get exactly what you mean.. maybe it’s our fault for listening to leaks + having high expectations but come on… we deserved a much better album

Also worth mentioning - Hyaena and Sirens were produced by Noah Goldstein, an amazing producer known for working a lot with Kanye in the past. So it is possible that these two songs were Kanye throwaways as well. Especially Sirens - the whole Festie-vial verse definitely sounds like Kanye

Bro like you said UTOPIA should have released either on 2020 or 2021...but the tragic of the 10 deaths occurred in the festival and ruined the release date...the idea of UTOPIA was already finalized around 2019 and that's why you see most of the UTOPIA songs where made 3 or 4 years ago...
You are right ,The tragedy was definitely a big reason for the Delay…
The vinyls and cds were in fact pre made that was always the plan to push them heavily… but then billboard implemented the rule change so they scrambled to get it together before releasing in which is why utopia was delayed a month. I do think they probably knew a little earlier than when it became public but they were definitely pressing vinyls and making physical albums since the beginning of the year he was always set to drop
And that's why they pushed that 10% off code asw smh. I used it and my stuff still hasn't arrived.

I really liked Utopia but I really felt like it was curated to get a grammy and get the numbers up.Of course getting a grammy is usually every artists goal but we know the Grammys isn't always about the music but more the brand, numbers, and popularity. When he lost the grammy I feel like he's been chasing it and maybe people in the industry told him how to do it. You did a great job explaining what I was feeling. when I listen to rodeo birds and astroworld it felt like a story or a movie with different series when I hear utopia it seems to drift away from that. I feel like maybe he's gonna get the numbers up get that grammy and then maybe go back to making the art he wants to make.
I want a deep depth on each record because i knew sum was off when he had certain lines on song's that sounded extremely dated like da line with dababy u most definitely should do a deep dive on thus album

I wouldn’t say that Travis took 5 years to make Utopia but he definitely took his time with majority of this album. The mixing is phenomenal, the production is high quality and I don’t see this project being rushed or old at all. The only questionable thing is that Delresto was most likely a left over from Beyoncé latest album.
Telekinesis and modern jam were already from Kanye but Travis did it justice
The mixing took the least amount of time and imo Delresto isn’t the Only questionable Record. Believe it or not I still listen to Utopia every day I just feel like we deserved a way better Album. It was also a sour experience partly because of the many leaks that ended up in the project as well

in my opinion Utopia was suppose to be astroworld 2.0 but because of the tragedy he had to switch it up last minute, making the album feel rushed. I still love utopia and listen to it everyday but it just feels like he threw a bunch of songs in there to fill up space. Next album is probably gonna be the real utopia!
The way I see it, utopia definitely delivered on the hype. Yes the songs may be old. But in conjunction with the entirety of the album they each play their part in the project nicely. In a way we got scammed but also, it’s good music so it’s hard to be too mad about it. I also really appreciate the branding and imagery associated with the album. Who cares if travis’ management had been printing the CDs and vinyls months before it dropped. There was a vision and they executed it very well and in terms of numbers it was a huge success. I spin this album start to finish once every day and every time something new catches my attention.
While i dsagree on your opinion about the music off Utopia, I agree upon everything that was said in the video. At this point, Travis comes across as an off putting person, a great artist, but an intelligent business man, and while the outcome of Utopia is quite great, you can't help but see the blatent switchup in the intention from Travis. There is a loss of focus that ultimately will effect his art from here on out if this is the type of release/outcome he wants.

I reckon we’ll get some sort of mixtape from Travis next year with tracks that would’ve been on utopia before the tragedy. When you think about it, I know, sirens and hyaena match the aesthetic of escape plan and mafia so Travis still had that vision; so I reckon we’ll get something like the original utopia in the form of a mixtape soon.
I feel like If Travis really was chasing the numbers tho he would’ve just made something similar to astroworld with nothing but hits. I feel like the whole concept of what utopia was meant to be was obviously cos of the tragedy and because it was to bring back kanye. Since the album dropped people have been talking about kanyes influence all over the album and then Travis even brought him out. Personally I think trav did this to help kanye and he has something else in store.

All hype aside i feel utopia was released at the weird time like when you enter the wrong classroom in school there was a lack songs and I feel like he was pressured to follow into making hype anthems instead of being the wild card of rap he was known for and also he wasn’t in the right state when rappers make albums it represents the part in their life they want to be immortalised and considering he had to go through a tragedy he’s obviously not going to be in a right state and also there’s a video of trav producing a which clearly supposed to be the initial sound of Utopia a Avent garde mbdtf in his vision you can even hear the violins on the track he produced but it never got released.

What were his numbers without bundle inflation? Definitely a lazy album in my opinion but it had sounds from all of his discography so it was digestible. Can someone briefly explain the whole billboard situation? From my understanding Billboard were open to change some rules (probably because of Travis huge ass budgets) that let him sell more than one bundle (that included the music record) per unique buyer, so the album sales numbers would be higher?

We have to understand this was a crash grab album, nobody is making money from the streaming part of the business so you have to figure out how to sell hard copy merchandise that cost nothing to make because you make more than actual album sales per sale. 10k album sales is different from 10k bundle sales because of all the merch included

Utopia doesn’t even feel like a real Travis project. His signature producing sound started to slip away after Astroworld but maybe thats just my opinion. Im a big fan of Trav and I’m kinda mad he left escape plan/mafia off the album

This album just had no depth or concept like astroworld. And it felt directionless. It was one minute very forward in terms of instrumental production then it became a traditional trav record. The videos are boring and uninspired. The music is enjoyable but it’s just a random amount of tracks that are polished. It’s clear he’s the artist the label is banking on that the youth will mass consume and use to keep the label at a high point of profit on. He’s talented and signed to the correct label and working with the correct engineers, producers, and writers. He’s an investment that is paying off because they’re rigging it. And this is coming from a 2013 fan. I like the record but I find Astroworld more meaningful and Dearing to remember. This one was just big to be big. I expected this to have some sort of new sound that would be polarizing like he said he was doing. And it did contain his old vocal production like he promised but it was on like 4 songs at most. Most of the record is promotion for new or established artists that will be invested into as well. I didn’t get anything like the tame impala collaboration record I’m terms of unique and new sound.
Great video. I’m a huge Travis fan and I agree with almost everything you’re saying. Utopia isn’t the one especially considering how long it took. Like you said it seems like he was more concerned with saving the brand instead of the quality of the album. Which I sort of understand, but tracks like k-pop is simply unforgivable😂 only thing I disagree with is his concert in Rome. I thought he did great!
