Survival is one of my favorites from The 2nd Law, such an epic sounding song. Their live performance at Rome Olympic Stadium is also one of the best in case you want to check it out in your free time.
Went and watched a live video after. Haha of course the one time I think the low part is bass, it's a guitar. Haha, go figure. Killer track. Should have a couple more days worth of Muse reactions coming at you. Next 2 on the list to do are "Thoughts of a Dying Atheist" and "Supremacy".
Hey Gabriel, fantastic breakdown and yes it is extremely easy to mix&match the bass and guitar in Muse (and vocals as shown by Muscle Museum). This was actually the first song I I learnt to play all the way through on my own guitar (and coincidentally the song that made me want to seriously practice the instrument); that last solo-section with all the slides and tremolo picking is extremely fun to play. Another band that you might be interested in if you haven’t heard them already - that was partly inspired by Muse’s sound - is called Royal Blood. They have some pretty great riffs (Typhoons for a starting recommendation, simple and pretty fun to play as well.) though aren’t a “heavy” band. And they are only a duo, with just a drummer and bassist/singer who plugs his bass into a variety of pedals and two different amps to make up for the lack of guitar. Just putting it out there if you have some free time. :)
Love Royal Blood, actually did some reactions to Typhoons back when that came out, if you’re interested here’s some of the videos: czcams.com/video/o5vYEwU3D9Y/video.html , czcams.com/video/LinkSpTekV8/video.html
You should give a chance to "Eternally Missed" and "City of Delusion" also. The first one is a b-side from Absolution, in my opinion one of their best songs; the second one is a very powerful song from Black Holes and Revelations (my favorite of that album along with Map of the Problematique), and maybe it's also the less known of that album.
I'm so glad you checked out this one! This album is massively underrated and i think it gets a bad rep. Back in the day, it shocked everyone with how different and diverse it was, and this track, which was chosen as the official song of the 2012 London Olympics, was lambasted and piled on by music critics. The reaction to this album was so dramatic it prompted Muse to make a much more rock based album afterwards (Drones) and dropped most tracks from this one. I think many people went back and gave another chance to The 2nd Law in hindsight, realizing what a varied, meticulously produced and awesome album this is. Glad to see you're checking out Supremacy aswell. These two are among the best tracks in the album. Don't listen to the naysayers, this album rocks!
@@gmetzgermusic well then you got a great variety in this. You have your queen-esque Survival, a Bond theme, funk, dubstep, an emotional piano ballad, pop songs, electronic songs and even a couple written by the bass player, Chris.
The 2nd law is my favourite Muse album so it's great to see you react to it😊. It's often overlooked and hated on but it's amazing. Panic station, explorers, animals, liquid state, big freeze, all great songs to check out 😁
Great video. Nice that you have enjoyed listening to Madness. I think it’s really creative and one of their best. My another favorite from The 2nd Law would be the song Animals. I really recommend it but it’s probably on the list already lol.
You'll never be able to get it on the channel because of copyright, but in your spare time check out the performance of this song at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. Amazing performance. There's a 50+ person chorus on stage and the thing is bouncing so hard you'd think it was going to collapse.
@@gmetzgermusic It's just such a solid album that has all Muse's signature elements still but also more electronics and funk. I put the album back on lst night because of your reaction haha
I'd personally recommend a band called "The Dear Hunter" (less heavy, more progressive, more artsy, theatrical, and slightly muse) there are a lot of good tracks from them, I'd probably recommend Lillian. Good vids :)
Wait what, Nightwalk likes The Dear Hunter too? :D How long have you known them? I've been a fan for a long time now and the Muse similarities must be one reason why. A funny little thing is in their song "Girl" the solo guitar quite sounds like Matt Bellamy singing :D If you haven't noticed that yet. czcams.com/video/5i1nsRb6aKo/video.html at 1:52
I don't think muse have a bad song, since they honestly slave so intensely on making every track as good as it can be, it's just that conceptually every track is so unique and different (not including the through lines like Matt's preferred recognisable chord progressions and similar lyrics sometimes, I'm talking the musical structure and bones of each track) that a lot of people aren't going to vibe with each song. You have to have a pretty open wide music taste to fully appreciate all of muse, which is why they are my favourite band, as that caters to me perfectly. Honestly, imo their worst song is explorers, but even that has a wonderful middle 8 and is still catchy. It's also on 2nd law, which is one of my favourite of their albums.
Do you know "Deep Peace" (album version) by Devin Townsend? Or the song "Into the Everflow" by Psychotic Waltz? If not, i would be interested to see your reaction to these. Of all the songs in which guitar solos play an important role, but which are not "shredder" tracks, these are my favorites.
“You Funky Mother*****” is pretty bad… but technically amazing. The worst “actual song” would probably be Execution commentary, but that has some sick riffs to offset it.
This song was actually the official song of the 2012 Olympics in London!
Oh really! That’s awesome.
I use that to justify the lyrics
As in it was written specifically for that event not just chosen
Nice reaction. They played this at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics. Epic.
That’s awesome!

Just for your own amusement, try to find the video of how they recorded this
Oh please please do 'the small print' it's got a great punk energy to it and a sick riff
Man, don't waste time on "Thoughts of a Dying Atheist", do "The Small Print" instead - it's much heavier and groovier.
@@igorkirsanov5639 The groovier of all is The groove :D

Not enough City of Delusion reactions out there. Such an incredible Muse song.

So far from the two songs I have heard I really like it! Definitely will do more from this album. I will be doing Supremacy soon.
This song should be listened with the prelude before, sets it up lovely for the song itself.
Yeah that's my bad, I meant to do the two together.
Absolution

Great reaction as always Gabriel... a nice end to my day🤘
Thank you!
This song is basically an ‘unnatural selection’ reprise.
Hadn't listened to Unnatural Selection when I listened to this one. Totally can see that now!
2nd law is amazing... not at first but ended up as one of my favorite albums of theirs.
Thus far I really like all of the tracks that I’ve listened to from this album.

So far I have loved every song I've checked out!
The low notes are bass and guitar, Matt uses a 7 string for this song.
Haha yeah always have good fun trying to figure out whether its 7 string or bass. Usually I'm wrong. 😂
Really good, as usual!
Thank you!
Fun Fact : There isn't only the guitar solo at the end. Matt is also singing it. Check out this video :czcams.com/video/Jlm0pCqG6MY/video.html

The 2nd flaw

It is not possible to scrape the barrel for a Muse song there are only good and great ones………..
So far I totally agree with you!
Some good aspects to it of course but this song never really grew on me.
