Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR first look at CES 2020

- Mercedes has made sure to play up its tech chops during the past few CES events and this year is no different. But instead of a straight autonomous electric vehicle, it's gone a little wacky with the vehicle that's based on the Avatar movie. Yep, the James Cameron film.
The Mercedes-Benz AVTR (advance vision transportation) is electric and can drive forwards and sideways. The vehicles is a rolling light show with displays that spread out beyond the dash. The vehicle has clear doors to get the driver closer to nature.

One thing traditional automakers are good at: making press releases and producing concept cars.
That's it tho. They're slower than the dinosaurs running from the meteor that word them out when it comes advancing on a production level
And notorious non-contemporary design so that literally nobody dares to buy one for day to day business.
This is what i hate about concept cars. Automakers spend so much time and resources on producing a concept car with all the fantastic features and quirks, yet almost NONE of these features and quirks get filtered down to their production cars. It's such a waste
They have to be careful about overhyping a concept. This car is not really even a normal concept vehicle because it's just too radical. This comes across as a mover production vehicle.

Main goal of a concept car is to look flashy and say look at us we are all about the future.
A sustainable car that only those who exploit the earths resources can afford.

@@OrangeToGo yeah lol I know... I work at Tesla so I know some things about it. There's a lot of stuff coming within the next few years. We'll start seeing many of the technologies demonstrated in this car coming to regular cars probably within the next 5 to 10 years. The whole point of a concept car like this is to showcase technology that a firm has in the pipeline for upcoming real world cars.

I was hoping the “scales” on the back of the car would actually be functional, like they could add downforce or use air pressure to help with cornering, but they seem disappointing now.

It actually does! During braking for example the panels lean backwards to create a sort of airbrake. And there are other aero bits. This video doesn't give the full overview

honestly to those who think its meh. but to people like me its a sci-fi dream come true. i really like the futuristic and alien feel to it. i would so love to have one even if ya cant drive it legally it would make a cool show piece to haul around on a trailer once in awhile.

not that simple. This is a very unique car, you cant just import it with two clicks as every other car, as many features have to be implemented manually. Like the missing steering wheel, the fully steerable rear axle, all the animations of doors and the back of the car and the lights and so on.
Another thing is, that concept cars are not that fully modeled as any production car, because only one will be build so some things might be improvised during build-time. And at last, the costs. No OEM will give you such a model for free, as there is still a lot of work involved.
