This is sad news. I started learning about stamping, scrapbooking, and card making with Close to my heart, and StampinUp!, then quickly was a StampinUp! Demonstrator. I didn't even know about you tube back then or I would have started a channel. I still use and create with all of my products. What you said about it not being the company for your customers, but that they like you, is so true. I hope your listeners that this has affected really hear that. 💙

Well said! I see so many people saying they have their own business, and the business is an MLM. These people in MLMs have no say in products, pricing, or company operations. When the MLM flops, these "business owners" lose "their business" too.

    • @gingersutton8240

Not only that an MLM has to purchase all their products to start their business not unusual, but the fact that the company depends on those MLM’s that don’t make it for a big chunk of their income is telling.
My daughter chose two different times to be at MLM worked her butt off and it just never paid for the product that she purchased . it takes a long time or a lot of good luck or a tremendous sales person with savvy to get it going, The bills need to be paid!!
We researched MLMs & the truth just might help make good decisions.

😢OMG, I lost my house in 1993 during hurricane Andrew, it was so bad, but days later walking around talking to neighbors we all kept finding pictures, it made thing even worse, and a lady showed up with boxes and said everyone put all the pixs you find in here, and we'll all did, it was odd because the Army base had also placed guards at the entrance of our community since, yes people kept coming in to steal, but she got in?, ment to be. She was a CTMH rep, and she and her team put all the pictures we all gave her in some kind of solution and then put them to dry, and hung them on lines she set up at the area the Red cross set up to feed us, and so many people got there memories back, years later I was in MO. And become a rep for CTMH, for a good 6yrs, then had to go back to work full-time, but I truly felt blessed for what that lady did, and for CTMH for the fun times I have crafting with them...

I have taken a hiatus from crafting but am now back after many life changes, and it was such a comfort to see a happy part of my “past” crafting life. Tanner, good advice! My ice skating teacher long ago used to say, “ if you are not ever falling down, you aren’t learning anything.” So yes, people should not just give up. Personally, I would advise people to “diversify”. Or, “don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” And think outside the box. This industry is very competitive, supplies are getting expensive, and as inflation/employment issues increase, people are changing their priorities in their budgets and crafting falls further down the “list”. I DO think there will always be “crafting”, but it will change as peoples’ needs change, as far as “what to make”. So maybe learn to make your own classes, learn how to make different things and teach those things, and maybe find/sell a different category of supplies for a different kind of project. I love your expression of “making your business on rented land.” I would tell even people who right now have a thriving business the same things. Society is changing, the economy is changing, and therefore businesses and business models need to change. If you are a praying person, ask God to give you wisdom and guidance in figuring out what to do. Jesus said that God even knows when a baby bird falls out of a nest, which means He is VERY aware of circumstances in and around your business and life. And since Jesus said He will provide what you need, it is NOT silly to ask for help with your craft-related business. If you aren’t a praying person, research a lot, and ask advice from people you know that have any kind of business, cuz many principles are the same no matter what the product or service is. Think positive!
    Wishing everyone the best!

As a Team Leader with CTMH, I am heartbroken-for myself & for my team. Waiting for LOTS of details from the ongoing negotiations between CTMH & Stampin Up. I’m especially waiting because I am primarily a 12x12” scrapbooker & SU currently doesn’t do 12x12 scrapping as one of their primary offerings.
B4 I joined CTMH, I owned my own scrapbook store. Due to health issues, I could no longer keep up with running that business. So I went with CTMH over 8 years ago & let CTMH do all the heavy lifting in the background, while I just crafted & taught-& teaching is & will forever be my true love.
I’m in the wait & see stage of my shock & heartbreak right now & I not only have to consider what’s ultimately best for me at this time of my life, dealing with my multiple health issues, but I also have to take into account what’s going to be best for my Team💔.

It takes more than just paper. I won’t buy SU products due to their founders daughter on trial for murdering her ex husband. Sheri Gardner the founder is not allowing her grandchildren to see their siblings. There is a serious problem in that company. I have sold all of my SU products and I have seen on my area tons of SU products in thrift stores recently. There is a serious moral and ethical problem with this company. Their prices are way out of line and now Temu is offering their stamps and die cuts for Pennie’s on the dollar. Stick with companies like Tanners as he will never just stop doing his job because he loves it, loves his family, and most importantly loves his customers. Pay attention to companies that are good and are morally and ethically strong . That is why that company was around for 40 years. I really hope they do not merge with SU because I believe their days are numbered as they are not a good moral company. Blessings and continued success Tanner and staff. PLEASE continue to support companies like Tanner and take his advice and bet on yourself like he says and you will always be able to keep crafting even when other companies close. This will not be the last company to close so you will still be able to create.

We also have to keep in mind that yes during covid crafting went through a big boom! this was great but at the same time
companies took advantage of this and heavily increased prices on everything. It became ridiculous for those that were crafting way before covid. We saw how everything went greedy! After everyone went back to work as normal.....it crashed! but the prices stayed. For these reasons it started making it unaffordable to keep crafting. Back in the day everything was cheaper to make from scratch which gave the purpose and ambition to create. Now it cost more to make then to just buy ready made.
It's unfortunate but until they go back to making crafting affordable again it will keep crashing down.
Its also unfortunate that Cricut has killed their design space. that made so many changes and no many upgrades its not even
enjoyable anymore. I canceled my subscription with them. I'm even thinking of selling everything Cricut! they as well went crazy with their prices. i dont like to be taken advantage of. This is my personal opinion.

I totally agree that in time they will be grateful that they had to pivot and grow and shift and build their businesses in other ways. Thanks for making this video, I think it's super helpful in such a time as this.

Do you think that the Digital world is taking over these companies? I use to sell with stamp n up. We saw the down slide of these companies over time. Most of the things I do now are all digital down loads, with companies such as creative fabrica, cricut, Canva. And Makers gonna learn to name a few.

Thank you for sharing. I have a fb friend who posted about this the other CTMH is the 4th company she has been with that has closed. I might one day take some of these steps to make something like this a side gig. Currently my day job. Is facing an unsure future and really need to have a fall back. I have been hesitant to do this as crafting has always been my release. I have been told you should sell your creations and I have done a fair or 2 but have always said if I did that it would become work and I would be afraid that I wouldn't have the same enjoyment.

I would order more if the shipping didn't cost more than the item! We need better ways to do cross border shopping to keep both sides companies growing. It really hurts us Canadian shoppers and other International shoppers twice because we have to pay for money conversations and then the shipping.

I happen across the video and this is happening on many levels to creators. I am a candlemaker and we are losing companies as well. Many are questioning WHY? The answer can be any things however the role of cheap money lending ending, tightening credit lines which many companies use to fund operations and a tough economy are certainly playing a role. No later what type of creator you are be prepared as much as you can for unexpected closures this year.

I have loved CTMH for so many years . I was a maker with them for several years and only quit because I was busy with high school kids. When something like this happens I always double check my inventory of crafting supplies and tools. I have been crafting and scrapbooking since 1998 and I bought my first Cricut before they even had them on the market in 2006. When something in the crafting world closes its doors my first thought is… “What if Cricut goes out?” I am a what if girl and I have 4 Cricut expressions and all of my 300+ cartridges safe and sound in case of emergencies. I will say the current all digital system is much better, but I would not know what to do without a Cricut.
As for CTMH, I am sad and feel like I lost a dear friend. No one makes scrapbook page protectors even close to the quality they have.

Not to say that people's sadness over a beloved crafting company closing isn't justified, bc we feel what we feel. And for those who loved CTMH products and were very regular customers (I'm not sure I ever heard of them) I understand.
What I think about and am bothered about is how hard it is for "successful" yet independent crafting businesses or other small businesses to compete in the today's market. With the crushing amount of "direct from China" goods (Temu is the worst IMHO) flowing into the U.S., how can American small businesses (or businesses in other countries who pay employees properly and operate under protective regulations, pay their taxes and so on) who don't resort to having their products made in China, compete? I'm
not sure if CTMH is made in US or China? None of us can say we don't buy from China because, well, the super low prices can be hard to pass up (but we should try) But even if you don't buy from the direct from China retailers like Temu and others, so many American brands have their products made there. Now, many lower, middle & even expensive makeup brands are having some or all of their makeup products made there, which really makes me mad. I do try to avoid anything made in China, that I would put on or in my body, well-known brand or not. I was delighted when I was in Joann yesterday
and saw that the #AmericanCrafts single sheet patterned paper was actually made in the USA! (Has it always been that way? Not sure.) Their WRMK products ( likely most of them) are made in China.
Sorry for this too long comment...I just know that with so many and more and more, cheap crafting products coming from China, it's hurting many businesses direct and indirectly that cannot compete or continue to have their goods made here. It shouldn't be that way. #Americanmanufacturers

They were too expensive. So many companies offer beautiful floral dies so I saw no reason to feel saddened by their actions. And Stampin Up? I would never by any of their Stamps. Also, too much money for what's offered. Their stamp pads went down hill years ago. Come now. Get real! Our industry is not falling. One needs to make choices. I would not then nor ever start purchasing from a company that's run with demonstrators. Not needed. My studio is my safe place and my creating is my saving grace. Anyone that's hung up on one company has issues in my opinion. Open your minds. Broaden your horizons. Finally, nobody and NO COMPANY could ever tell me I can not include other Crafters, Artists or Companies in my Creating. We are a Community. It needs to remain free. I purchase what I want and will always share what I want. No. I shared my opinion which I have a right to do. CZcams gave me that permission. So did you. But no I won't subscribe to you. Because I am not a fan of Cricut nor how they've run their business.

I have been a demonstrator for both Stampin Up! and CTMH. (Basically I do it for the discount not the selling part of it) I switched back to SU about 2 years ago because I prefer the QUALITY of Stampin' Up! products . CTMH cardstocks, in my opinion, suck. I hated that white core cardstock, and when they made one side of the cardstock a lighter color, it messed up so many projects, even on the CRICUT. I have to say that I love everything about SU ! the cardstock, papers, stamp images, etc. etc. etc.

I went more into the Tim Holtz grunge and 49 & Market papers. I once sent a letter to SU and asked them if they were going to include other types of stamping and never heard a thing from them. I think people are not scrapbooking and card making much. The generation of people that did/do it are getting older we all have a huge stash from over the years, the younger generation are minimalist they don’t want the clutter of scrapbooks. They leave everything in the cloud and if they want something it’s all digitally done. They don’t have time, and mostly it’s an economic standpoint. Things since Covid have double and tripled in cost and people are struggling financially so therefore hobbies take the backseat to paying the bills. Sad the world has gotten to this point, but also a lot of stuff still is not produced in the US.

I totally agree! I love making cards and yet I just do for family and friends. I only ever get a card from my parents and husband...no one does cards anymore. So I just enjoy as a hobby rather than a business. In tough economic times, cards become an unnecessary frill for majority. I know there's a big community that loves them but it's no where near what it used to be.

I’m a tumbler maker but I also have 2 full time jobs on top of that just to be able to make ends meet. I know a lot of people who are doing the same thing. Great advice! As a former CTMH consultant I think there are many talented people that can bet on themselves. It wouldn't suit me, but I was only a hobbyist, and it was never going to be a full time job. Those that were successful could make it on there own as likely their customers are loyal to them rather than any company. And I think there is great potential to have products way more affordable than these brands you are tied to.
For me I still have more CTMH product than I will probably use in my lifetime. Maybe I can sell it off in a year or two when it's no longer available. I know for certain I will not ever purchase something from SU having followed what is happening around the Gardner family. I know this is controversial and impacts a lot of demonstrators but I just can't support them in any way while they exclude their grandkids from their fathers family, regardless if Shanna is found guilty or not.😢

I think it’s sad, in business for 40 years. They did their best. Maybe someone will make an offer to buy it. I worked for a home “party” company. There was so many sales people that loved the company I worked for. They earned trips all over the world. When the owner was dying he took all us home office people on a week long trip to Acapulco. 400 of us. I have found working for a family company to be better that corporate. Corporate don’t care. Anyway after our owner passed of cancer, the company was sold and went out of business. Had a great 13 years with them before he passed.
