This is my Favorite Sonic game and I played it an emulator and ended up paying $200 for 5 32x games (not my best financial desicion), and I finally found a 32x at my local flea market a little over a week ago. Feels good to finally play it on my CRT

Man, did I EVER wish for this game to ever be ported in some kind of way. Still own a 32X just so I can dust this off once in a blue, blue, BLUE moon.
Weird ass game, weird ass concept, but man that beautiful soundtrack. Surging Power and Evening Star are always my go-to for music.

Hey! I really enjoyed the review. : )
It was fun finally getting to see your thoughts on this game. Especially since it's one of the games responsible for getting me into retro gaming. I'm not gonna get into all of the details, but long story short, I found out about it and wanted to play it on real hardware, so I went ahead and did my research so I could slowly obtain everything needed to play it. I definitely wound up in a huge rabbit hole of collecting other unrelated stuff thanks to that.
God am I lucky to have gotten a 32X and this game before the loose cart got that price. My parents actually got me the game boxed for Christmas when I just expected to have the cart. It's seriously become one of my proudest parts of my game collection. I think you can also see I turned out to be one of those fans of the game. It really is all behind whether you can get the rubber band mechanic. Like if you can't, I can see why someone wouldn't be too into the game. I just can't get enough of it. There's certainly games i enjoy more, but there truly is nothing quite like Chaotix.
I wish I could somehow lend you my 32X and a copy of the game along with the cables required. I'm real glad that there are aftermarket video link cables these days, especially ones with Model 1 support built in.
Also, it is possible to play the 32X on the Genesis Model 1 without the prongs, it won't blow up or anything. I've had plenty experience with the thing on both models without the prongs or the spacer.
But yeah, these days I'd definitely agree to just emulating it for those who don't have the game. It's really not worth the crazy prices these days. Heck that's what I do to play Kolibri.
Hopefully someday, official or otherwise, a fan remaster can bring the game to modern audiences in a much easier way with neat enhancements and such.
Anyways, thabk you for making the review and I hope you have a great day! : )

  • @iiOmarSP

32X owner here, there isnt anything noteworthy on the system, as the games on it were either felt unfinished, rushed, canceled, or Doom 32X.
It fits snuggly in a model 1 and the prongs arent needed, but on a Model 2, which was clearly was they designed it for, doesnt actually fit, and a simple bump will lead to a crash.
Overall, Chaotix is pretty much an expensive game on an already expensive add-on, and being one of the better non-ported games on it sorta...doesnt help its case

It blows my mind that the 32X is expensive now. I got mine for $30 brand new in 95 or 96. I still prefer the 32X versions of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Blackthorne over the SNES versions. I miss playing Knuckles Chaotix, especially the soundtrack, but I did find the game to be infuriating, especially that zone where you're supposed to activate all the clocks before departing. I could never find them all.

Chaotix "remaster" will never happen due to three reasons:
    1. Apperently its hard to port the game.
    2. The game is at best mediocre and little to no fans care about chaotix.
    3. It's flawed the same way as 3d blast is.
Meaning it would require a full on re-imagine.
