Bruh... European pickpockets could steal contacts out of your eyes while you're reading. They are next level. Glad you're safe!
LOL
16-25 2.8 vs 20 1.8?
I'm heading to Paris in June. Good thing I watched this Manny! I'm also concerned about theft while there.
16-35 G Zoom is the better option in 90%+ of cases, and it's $100 less. Also, the 16-35 is 50 grams lighter despite having 10mm more range, a fair trade for the F4 vs F2.8 shortcoming.
$100 for an extra stop, and sacrificing the power-zoom, is absolutely worth it from my standpoint. But... I'm the dude who spent the money on the 16-35 f/2.8 GMII and now wish I wouldn't have given the reviews this lens is getting. XD
Pricing in Australia 16-35mm PZ is AUD$1255 (best price) and 16-25mm is AUD$2,199 RRP (Best price $1899). So that's nearly a $650-$1000 difference for us.
I have both of these lenses as of last week. I prefer have a 2.8 and with my A7RV, cropping from 25mm to 35mm isn’t that much of an effort. I’d rather have the extra stop especially when I shoot in lighting conditions that would need me to bump up my ISO to at least 12,800.
So far this is the best comprehensive review about three wide angles lens👍👍
Bro! I had the same experience in Paris - I just arrived two days ago.
Need the 85mm GM update so bad the version 2
Always love your videos! And I really appreciated the off script talk about Paris traffic. Wish you’d release an entire vlog of your trip there. Take care!
What Sony camera do you recommend that’s comparable to the G7x?
Since they are similar in price would you recommend this lens over the sigma 14-24mm?
We need a 90mm macro update 🤙🏾 GM
The distortion sucks but the lack of focus of breathing is great. I wish the 24-50mm 2.8 G had no focus breathing.
Incredible work as always 🕊️
Need to upgrade from my Sony 16-35 f4. Torn between getting this (16-25 2.8 G) or 14 1.8 GM. Already have a Sony 20 1.8.
Same problem ))

I love my Sigma 16-28mm, it also has better LOCA and flaring control
Why did I have to go and buy the 16-35mm F4 G :(
How would you compare this to the Sigma 14-24 mm DG DN regardless of the 14 mm ability and whether you can attach filters or not
ZVE1 is so cool 😎 I love my small mini cam 😍 although I have the bigger FX6 😅
I’m gonna need a longer review of this 16-25mm to the 16-35mm GM2 . I have a student discount from B&H that allows me to get the GM2 for $1950 , but still waiting for the edu price for the 16-25mm , I’m thinking it will be about $1050 . Trying to see what’s the justified price for a hobbiest that does paid gigs about 1 or 2 times every couple months . I have a Sony A7IV. Been looking for a good wide angle zoom lens .
Get a zeiss prime used, save massive $, image will look better, the sony is sharp enough you can easily crop the 9mm difference, you wont be one of the morons buying a 16-25mm LMAO
😊Hi Manny! Like you, I’m from Chicago and I’m constantly looking over my shoulder when I’m out with one of my cameras! So your comment on your time in Paris I can certainly relate. May I suggest that you and your family visit Tokyo, Japan.
It’s a photographer’s paradise. Imagine centuries old temples next door to the cutting edge new. But best of all it is one of the safest cities in the world!
I was shocked by how clean Tokyo is; Chicago can’t compare. The food is amazingly good and with huge variety!
Last year I was there and did some nighttime shooting and I was out until 3AM. No one bothered me and I felt perfectly safe!
Perhaps you’ll put Tokyo on your bucket list! All the best. Roy Harris

Thanks!
I would love to hear your feedback on my budget setup.. I have the A6700 and purchased the Sigma 30mm f1.4 ($285). I am thinking of getting as my next lenses, the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 ($549), and then get the Tokina 11-18mm f2.8 ($399). I'm doing mostly portraits, some weddings and occasional travel videos.
For portraits, if you can get a 85 or a 50, go for them
@@hvchimi Yes! I’ve been looking at an 85mm too, however, the crop factor changes the 85 to 127.5mm (a 55mm is the closest to a 85mm equivalent - APSC). That’s why I thought about the Sigma 18-50mm (27-75mm equivalent) as the next lens.
@@Elivaztv yeah makes sense , I forgot to take into consideration the crop factor. I have a crop sensor myself but I have a 85mm , it requires much room to work with but it is so worth it.
Sigma 16-28 on the ZV-E1 has been lovely for me. Sony gotta shift a lil lower. 14-?
How about 12-?
Hi, nice and informative video!
Did you have the chance to get a lens profile for Lightroom yet? If not, do you use another lens's profile or correct it yourself? Thank in advancefor any tipps.
"But...there are no car accidents!" And the cherry on top: Nobody gets shot either! 😁
This is the first lens that has made me consider selling my 20mm G. That said the f1.8 comes in handy when photographing dimly lit interiors and for astrophotography. I just need to decide whether slightly worse images in these situations is worth the extra focal range.
where can i get a sony alpha hat?
Thanks for the video. If you only think about 18 mm and not the zoom. Would you rake the zeiss 18mm batis of this lens?
@@stevem3219 Hey Steven so I personally haven’t used the 18mm Zeiss so it’s hard for me to say. I wish I could help
Handheld?!? You got skillz!!! 😳
Hi Manny Ortiz I always enjoy your channel lots of good information I wish one day you can take a regular inexperience photographer and teach him the basics and make a big transformation of someone with no experience .
I go with Tamron. I paid $400 for my 17-28mm like new lens, thank you.
Kinda off topic lol but where'd you get that Sony Alpha hat!? I've wanted one for over a year now 😅
Love the video of course.
Sameeee, I want that hat
1600 usd in europe
Hope you enjoy France my friend :)
I’m not sure stopping at 25mm is smart, the point of using a zoom instead of a prime is for versatility, this doesn’t really give u that. You didn’t mention it but I’m sure I saw it had an aperture ring If thats right? That’s huge and definitely something that may sway someones decision especially those coming from Fuji or Leica.
if not 16-28mm 2.8 by sigma contemp, But you could recommend 14-24mm 2.8 by sigma art which cuts off the new sony g 16-25mm and gm 12-24 2.8 !
Do you think the Sony is worth the $300 over the Sigma for video AF performance alone? Really love the 28mm, internal zoom, and colors of Sigma glass, but this would be my only wide-angle for real estate, music videos, and some wedding work, so I'm trying to buy once and be done. Shooting on an a7S III btw.
Not seeing a promo code in the video for the presets
Manny i am still using sony 16-35mm f2.8 GM 1. There is no reason to switch from that lens to this one.
I wonder if Viltrox 16/1.8 would do just as well when cropped on A7Cr.
Thanks for another lens review. I have the FE 16-35/2.8 GM II but always looking out for something smaller and lighter for my Compact “C” A7RC/A7CII. Have a Sigma 16-28/2.8 bought used for my A7C a while back and wondering if only shooting stills and no video is this that much better? Things like focus breathing is a don’t care. Do you have a real review of the Sigma 26-28/2.8 to compare to? Take care.
Nice lens, shame it’s not a 16-35 but to get the size it’s going to be F4. I use the 20mm F1.8. Great for low light. Why does physics get in the way of the ideal lens?
There's already 3 of them.. The 16-35 F4 PZ, GM and GMII. Why would you need another? The PZ is not even 2 years old. This seems more logical.
Both GMs are F/2.8 already too
the best focal length would be something like a 18-40 f/2.8-4 or even 20-50 f/2.8-4
Where is the coupon code for the presets ? 🤔
Appreciate the insight Manny...never had a lens in this range and or "category"..16-28-35 base lenses..etc so for me personally I like that it stops at 25mm...this is quite interesting and definitely worth a look for sure! looks like it will be my first lens..lol..that Alpha Hat though!!..would love to have one of those but too bad Sony doesn't sell that to the public..only for "content creators"..lol
Where can we buy the hat?lol
Try driving in iceland..they are insane. I was driving in 90 kmt and got a busdriver 1 meter behind me. What do you do? :o
Hey manny, I currently shoot with a a7iv and a fujifilm xh2, I've seen your video of the z8. Would you recommend switching to the z8?
great review. what do you think of 16-25 F/2.8 vs 16-35 F/4 PZ ?
hello Manny I love your content. You are good at describing complex things in a way so that everyone can understand. Manny I may need your help with one minor things regarding this update. I have the new firmware on my Sony A7s3 and have some issues with Auto focus with Face and Eye detection when set for Human subject. The issue is this: focus works fine when my head is horizontal but if I stay with my head upside down the camera fails to focus on my eyes. This did not happen with previous firmware version (2.10 I know not quite previous but that was last before updating to 2.15 and 3.0. Please let me know if you experience this kind of issue also. Maybe somehow is a problem. Happens with both lenses that I have GM2 24-70 & GM2 16-35mm. Kind regards and thank you so much in advance.
Nice review, Manny
viltrox 16mm 2.8 is great and in aps-c it’s 24
It is nice addition to Sony 24-70 GM.
Yeah many finally posted 🥹
Hear me out.. what if Sony made a 16-50 2.8?
I know that range exists in an APS-C, but why not in full frame?
Because that lens would be huge + super heavy, and cost $3000.
keepup to good work
I want to see a review of a sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 vs the new 16-25mm f2.8 .
How does it compare to the Tamron 17-28 2.8
Wowww! Anh the Beautiful FUJI X100VI @minutes 6:55
Paris is a beautiful city in every corner and yet their pickpocket is world class
How do you solve the problem of barell distorsion in video????
I need that alpha hat!
Can’t go wrong with Sony sigma 16-28mm light sharp and great price! Why pay more 🤯 n xtra 3mm more
For a7 IV owners for video the SONY E 11mm f/1.8 is a good cheap option
I’ll be traveling there in a few months, I was already nervous when I saw that video on your stolen gear and now hearing you mention it again I’m getting nervous all over again 🥲 can’t imagine not taking my camera gear with me on the trip. I recently bought the osmo pocket 3 to take. I’ll be considering buying a zoom lens for this trip and leaving my GM lenses at home 😩😫 Damm thieves!
thanks for the video :) If I got GMII 24-70mm 2.8 is it reasonable to buy 16-25mm GM ?
16-25 is dumb no matter how you look at it
Come to Prague it should be much more relaxed trip :D
It's anything but relaxing, because there's an insane amount of tourists. Not recommended for that reason.
@@youuuuuuuuuuutube but in terms of crime rate it should be much better :)
great!
Can it shoot astro???
I see Dr. K at 6:55
Woahhh a new lens??? Holy shitty. Finally a new one
Seems like a no brainer for the A7cr.
I think you still have PTSD from getting your stuff stolen before. I didn't have any issues in Paris. the only place I've been scared to pull out my camera was around Rio de Janeiro.
This one's a meh lens. Tamron's 20-40 seems a more versatile range and the existence of 17-28 and sigmas 16-28 for lesser price makes this lens irrelevant to most people.
But where I see the appeal of this lens is for professional travel and landscape photographers who wants to cary light and small. This plus the 24-50 and I'm pretyy sure sony will release a third one for the longer end. Thus will be a great kit.
bring back the addicted sweat shirt for 1 last whoraa
Neat
Tamron 17-28 all day
Strange lense. I don’t like that 16-25 range at all. I’d prefer the 16-35 all day long or a prime wide for sure.
Well obviously if you can afford the 16-35 GM, this isn’t for you. 😂 This is for poor schmoes like me who want something wider than my Tamron 28-75 G2, but don’t want to/can’t afford to splash for the 16-35. For me it lines up perfectly.
@@ericlamont4130 you are right not every can afford a gm lens. I really hate lens snobs. I don’t make money from my pictures. It’s a hobby. I can’t and don’t want to spend 2k on a men’s and 4K on a camera body. Especially when I am not making money on it.
When does this lens come out ?
@@quetzocoalgreat for you that there's 3rd party options then 🥴
If there is 16-50 exist, then I do not like 16-35 range at all.
The Viltrox 16mmm 1.8 is the king of wide angle lens with clear image zoom it becomes a 16-24 f1.8 @ $549
Finally someone that understands! I would get the Viltrox anyway over this. And especially you do video it essentially give you a 16-32mm f1.8-3.6 much more preferable
You are right. No one asked for that. I wonder if companies just have extra money laying around or tax write offs when they make these types of lenses.
SONY IS ON NECKS. I'm jumping ship.
Why would you want this lens.. No need Buy 16-35
16-35 is sharper. Reason enough
Compare to 17-28 tamron would be a fair comparison for sure . I use mine a lot
Raja from India
14-30 would be ideal.
Hai bro
Hey, remember the French movie "Taxi"? That's how they drive, so....
Its definitely a weird focal length
Cahotic drive in France ? Really ? Man you should never go to Tbilissi 😁
You where in Paris and scared to shoot at night..? Have you ever seen Midnight in Paris.?
WHY ??? WHY Sony ??? Why not a 14-35mm ?? There’s already 12-24 , 16-35, why not a small in between 14-35mm ??
The 16-35 already is quite small and light. There's like 3 versions.
@@mchwmedia yeah but look at canons offerings , they have one too . They could have provided something more innovative , like smaller for travel , 14-35mm f2/2.8 with IS and I get it , if size and engineering are an issue . Which is what most of the manufacturers claim . Then a 14-28 is 2.8 wouldn’t be such a bad option. Canon used to make a 20-35 2.8 which I own . And it’s smaller than all my zoom lens. What’s innovative about this lens is my “WHY ?? “
@@LetiB76 hmm that sounds fair enough. A 2.0 would be amazing as well but I'm afraid of the costs to even sell those 😂 I'm pretty sure we'll get wat we want someday, we just need to be patient. And otherwise this opens up a possibility for the 3rd party lenses
That lens wants hitting with a baseball bat, let’s have an 85mm 1.2 GM instead of random lens !
Nikon fans complaining 😂.
2.8mm No thanks 😂
damn.. the thieves suck!!!! complete bullshis.
Glad I stayed till the end 👀
