Thank you Vladimir Chupin for these wonderful documentaries of BAND-MAID!!
Regardless of the band's origin story, Miku just adds so much of the intangible, indefinable magic that she is irreplaceable, especially live and really puts them over the top into the irrefutable top of the list of the best bands in the world playing today, head and shoulders above the rest. She's so animated and plays her role to perfection. She's a hype machine and has no ego to her guitar playing. If it were just Saiki in front it would still be really good, but Miku's energy is beyond infectious. The truest of team players who has the most fun doing the most thankless job but makes herself absolutely vital. Not many backing vocalists/rhythm guitarists can claim to be the face of the band, especially surrounded by such extremely talented musicians.

Just saying, it's been 4 years since this performance, they're even better now! The shows here in the states are going to be epic.
Chemistry, professionalism, charisma, dedication, energy, happiness... all this concentrated in five small bodies on a stage. No wonder they practically sold out their entire Coast to Coast tour in just a few days.
I love how Miku is rocking her pigtails and doing rock star action. And next to her, Misa is in her own world, focused and grooving. I never get tired of watching these two. This video is a world heritage left by Vladimir.
I love watching Miku living her dream. She got there the old fashioned way, hard work, talent, self sacrifice, love, and two bits of luck called -- finding Kanami and Saiki at just the right time.
Bought my tickets for San Diego, it’s a long way from South Dakota but I’m sure it’s worth it. I only discovered them just prior to Covid or I would’ve seen them by now.

Normally I complain about how fast the days are going by. But now I am complaining that they aren't going fast enough. October can't get here soon enough for me. I can't wait to see them live! And hearing about how fast venues are selling out their shows is just a testament to how great they are

There is a huge difference in being able to play this music and playing it at this speed- all credit to Miku. You kind of expect it from Akane, Kanami and especially Misa who's hand has a long way to travel up and down that bass neck. Fantastic video.

I love how from backstage, their loyal and attentive Daisuke-san is constantly checking if everything is fine. It's great to be able to rely on such a solid guitar-tech (I recommand his interview in the score book) (edit: I wrote this comment while watching the video and of course it's the first thing you mention at the end of it ^^)

You should watch the "you." video from the same show on Vlad's channel. During Kanami's solo, MISA whispers something in Miku's ear that cracks her up. Plus the performance is excellent.
Yes - That clip is fantastic and so is that moment. I so wish I knew what was said to see Miku like that.

These ladies just make me happy, great compositions, fantastic musicianship and a band having a great time with each other and the crowd. What more can you want?

You can see how much miku as a guitarist has improved from then to the current day, she does far more rhythm work nowadays and is the ultimate rock star. 🤘🤘
Yes, you can see and hear her very well in these Melkweg videos. I'm shocked each time I re-watch these videos, how skillfully she is as a rhythm guitarist. She hits the chords in quite unexpected places, and it's all very complicated.
Yes... and to sing sporadically, as opposed to continuously, to me would seem difficult too. Riff, rockstar, sing the note you need to without any lead up, repeat!
'Secret My Lips' was a bucket list song for me.
Happily, they played it at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles in 2018.
I haven't missed an LA show yet, and this year they're hitting my home base of San Diego as well.
The members seem pretty happy about all the sold out shows in the USA.
I’ll be there and I would have gone to L.A. if I had to. Discovered them early 2020 from someone leaving a comment on a John 5 video asking if he knew of them.
When I see them in concert I am afraid I will miss so much because I simply find it so difficult to take my eyes off Saiki!
I feel exactly the same as you Ryan, I have seen them live 3 times in 2019. I am a pro musician for many years and acted like a complete Idiot when I actually got to meet them. Band Maid has many followers who are actual musicians, I watch you and the gang on all the reactions. For many of us, the girls achieves something a lot of us wanted but could not get of the ground for one or another reason. And on top, their genre of classic/alternative rock metal speaks to us. Thas why they will have more fans coming out of the wood works, its their whole package. This coming tour will be a stepping stone to the bigger times and we sold enjoy the small venues while we can.
Thank You Ryan, that brings back a lot of memories. Amsterdam was my first B-M concert and I was already in high spirits like a teenie on my way from the hotel to the Melkweg, where I passed a hairdresser. On the big window "OnSet" had been written, so I thought, that must be destiny. The Melkweg is a really cozy venue with a balcony in the back and a good acoustic, as you also can hear on Silly's recording of Onset. I was standing on Kanami's side and wondered what the heck does this guy with his phone on a selfie stick in front of Misa. Half a year later Vladimir and I became close friends, when we met in Bochum and traveled to Hamburg the next day. Another six months later we met again in Japan. Without his support I had never been able to fulfill my dream. I will be eternally grateful to him and hope and pray that we can meet again sometime, safe and sound.

It's easy to see that Band-Maid are having fun playing live. The rock star moves comes so natural with them :-) Thank you Ryan and also thanks to VC for shooting the video. I will probably not be able to go to Boston or NYC this year because of Corona craziness, but I hope to be able to go to Japan and se them at Nippon Budokan whenever that happens.
Let's hope everyone who goes has even better smartphones so the fancams for the rest of us poor slobs overseas can get to see great videos...lol

Like many commentators said before or will say, these videos are precious because they show their "history" and incredible progress as well as the reasons why they enjoy live concerts so much!
I do not know how big the venues will be in the US, but I do not worry. They will work the crowds no end because this is one of their main gifts, not found in many bands, especially nowadays! Tom Clark put it perfectly!

You can tell who the Maidiacs are by whoever watches this and has a smile the whole time. Bad audio .. it doesn’t matter .. we know these songs and we are rocking out with them, bad audio or not. Like you mentioned .. the biggest dilemma watching their live shows will be who to focus on.

Melkweg and LOGO Hamburg have pretty decent sound.
Paris is almost completely drum&bass, I was standing behind the speaker in a sound shade, with only MISA's amp in front of me, and Akane's drums being like three meters away.
Bochum is also not very good in terms of sound. There was a lot of reverb, I guess from the ceiling and the walls. I was in the middle of the hall there, away from the speakers.

I often remark with fan cams it really brings home how Band Maid are wonderful to watch. Even if their songs were mediocre, what would rather see: Band Maid as they are here or one of the many four or five established all male rock bands?
I really hope the venues will not be too large as for me, this stage and venue in this fan cam is how I would want to see Band Maid. Not stuck behind a barrier at least ten feet away from the stage with disinterested security guards wandering about in the void between the front row and the stage. Even if you could get to the front row.
I remember when two of the blokes from Static Age channel went to see Band Maid when they last performed in the US, they remarked on how drunk some of the people were attending the show. Each to their own but I would want to remember every moment and be fully aware of the atmosphere and the talent on stage. Not be fuelled and pie eyed on alcohol which you can do at any time.
What a concert without Dice? It must be there. I hope they’ll include it in all concerts in October. Maybe they will throw Puzzle at last! It was long time.
I love them all, but in all the fan cam videos I’ve watched Miku is just a giant ball of fire! So much energy and enthusiasm! Such a great band.

Miku seems to be carrying her guitar lower than normal here? Akane drops her stick at 8:25. Akane fan malfunction at 9:00 he was trying to fix it but couldn't.

I'm fine. Nobody's bombing Moscow. Yet.
There's a Maidiac in Melitopol, a city in Ukraine that was raided by the Russian troops. His name is Victor. The whole city is destroyed, all the shops are plundered by the Russian army and the local looters. A couple of days ago his Internet was still working, although it was only a very weak mobile signal, he said, the cable seems to be broken.
He's trying to stay calm, though. He says, one of the strings on his guitar is torn, and he's unable to buy a new one because the local music shop is in ruins. But he says, he still has his bass and a piano, so, he may still support his soul with some music he can play.
I pray this insanity will end soon.
I have tickets for Washington and Philadelphia. I have absolutely no idea how I will find myself in the US in October, but God is All-Powerful. I saw it in a dream, that I am attending BAND-MAID OKYUJI on October 26th. Was it a prophetic dream? Who knows...

Although this band deserves to perform in massively large venues that match their level of greatness. I selfishly appreciate seeing them perform in such an intimate setting. I saw them in a similar-sized venue last time they came through and am looking forward to seeing them again in a slightly larger-sized venue in San Diego. I'm sure it will just as intimate. I guess it feels like you are in on a secret when you know this band should be the biggest band on the planet!

Man I really enjoy watching The Maids with you Ryan. It's because your reactions are so genuine, I sometimes wonder if you're even aware of some of your facial expressions. Most fans are aware of and respect Mikus backstory of selflessly stepping aside of the band she put together. And appreciate the positive vibe & scrappy little engine that could determination she exudes. So that no matter what member of the band you tend gravitate towards, everyone is low key pulling for our little Pigeon! Po!
Anyway to get to my point; So there is this block from about 8:12 to 9:25 but in particular the 12 seconds between 8:12 -8:25 where you get, what I can only describe as this Proud Dad look on your face. Where you have this proud smile on at several points in that space, and another one of which is at 8:56 on Mikus down stroke just after the pause, it's so real and genuine.... Thanks man, keep keepin it real!
Ha, yeah... you got me. I can't be proud of her, I had nothing to do with her development, but I am aware of the story and it genuinely makes me happy to see Miku just having a blast!

Just noticed- Akane dropped two sticks. You mentioned the one that fell behind the drum kit that the gut looked for, but almost immediately afterwards another rolled out in front of the bass drum.
You should see the portion where the band introduces themselves. MISA doesn't say anything except "glug glug".

Yeah i've watched a lot of your recordings, trying to catch up with the internal "lore" of the band and thus be able to better understand the inside jokes about them. And of course i love watching Kanami going nuts with her "kinda-improvised" guitar solos, she's awesome in the truer sense of the word

Indeed, Kanami can easily improvise, she only rarely does it. It's simply not her style. She does not want to stand out so much, she's a team player. BAND-MAID is her arms and voice, five members working perfectly as fingers of one hand. But occasionally, she improvises even within the normal course of the song, like in "onset" when she had to play the solo without a whammy bar. Also, sometimes in ONLINE OKYUJIs she would go a bit off track, to follow her feelings at the moment.

Meeting the Maids at their LA show was an out-of-body experience for me and something I’ll never forget. They were so iconic-looking and beautiful. I have so much respect for each of them. Moving to each one, all I could really do was say their name, put my fist over my heart, and nod my head while mouthing the words, "love you". It could have been really embarrassing if Saiki hadn't put her fist up to her heart, repeating my gesture. (she is beyond words beautiful); MISA just smiled at me (more than enough considering I was overamping anyway); Akane looked up with her huge smile (wow, what a knockout smile she has in person); Kanami gave me those caring eyes while saying something I didn't understand (I was devastated by her presence and warmth); and Miku just tilted her head giving me a questioning expression (she holds so much personal power and charisma in person).
There's something extraordinary about Kanami, Saiki, Miku, MISA and Akane that goes beyond their music. I don't know. Maybe it's their light... their presence... their incredible magnetism, quirkiness and seemingly innocence nature. Whatever it is, I hope they never lose it. I don't think they will because they're also genuine.
Anyway, I just slowly backed away like I'd just meet the Beatles. I started talking with MISA and Akane's tech guy, Site Manager Horiuchiv, who was even shorter than the girls - about 5 feet - but so nice and friendly. I felt we were communicating a bunch of stuff even though we couldn't understand each other. It was all surreal. Then an hour and a half later they took the stage and I went back into this “happy trance” for two, super quick hours.
Their fan videos are great. Their official production MV are fantastic. The videos of them playing an online live concert are off the chart spectacular! But seeing them live, in person, is simply beyond words. I tried to explain it once, so here goes: Seeing Band-Maid play live is like flying through downtown city streets at Mach 1 in a F-22 Raptor fighter jet with an open cockpit… for each song... 23 times! The power and sound produced by the ladies lays you flat on the floor. Fortunately, with so many happy, cheering people around you, making it to the floor is impossible. What else could anyone possibly want from a Live! I just can't understand why Band-Maid isn't at least as popular as RUSH was, or Foo Fighters by now. But they will be soon!

Too bad Band Maid didn't play at the House of Blues Anaheim (OC) rather than the Belasco LA. They could've added maybe 700 more Maidiacs at Anaheim, and have plenty of parking at Disneyland. Going to see Scandal there in July then October madness begins. Sac, LA, SD and Houston. Can you say, "I'll be eating rice and beans to pay for all of this lunacy, Po!"

Not to me, but to all the people in Ukraine. I'm perfectly safe here, nobody's bombing Moscow, and we still have electricity, water, and food, almost as if nothing has happened. While people in Ukraine are dying every day, and have to live in underground shelters, while their homes are being destroyed by artillery, bombs and missiles.
Miku has already posted a few times her prayers for peace on her Twitter and Instagram. They say they change the outfits when the old ones are worn out. The current ones didn't really have a chance to be drenched in their sweat and washed so many times as to lose their form. Although, who knows, maybe they'll decide to open a new era by then, and commemorate it with the new costumes.

I have been toying with the idea of comparing Band Maid members and songs to a gastronomic repast or a blind tasting. I am not and will never be qualified as a music critique/reactor, but as a professional gastronomy writer I can at least venture into some comparisons of another vintage (or vantage! Sorry for the cheap double pun!).
Let's start with fine drinks for the day (expect full meals in the future!):
-Misa: a fine old vintage sweet and heady Port wine you can enjoy for itself at any time of the day or after a great repast with a beautiful very dark coffee (or some bitter pistachio chocolate)!
-Miku: definitely the finest Japanese sake as it would marry/pair/blend with the whole meal from starters to dessert and you would still enjoy it as a wondrous nightcap!
-Kanami: the finest whiskey, or if you prefer a sublime oak barrel Bourbon (you will to thank the French for that!). Actually ,here in Shizuoka we have an incredible whisky (single malt) distillery maturing their whisky in Bourbon casks!
-Akane: I would keep her in the company of a fine, full-bodied red wine of my home Bourgogne! You are going to kill me, but it would do fine being paired withe bananas she loves so much!
-Saiki: bubbles, definitely, but of the finest quality without the snobbish habit to fall for overpriced Champagne of a dubious quality. The best "sparkling/bubble" wine I would have her enjoy would be a fine Cremant (actually made along the same process as Champagne!) de Bourgogne (again) or a Blanquette de Limoux (the first natural double fermentation sparkling wine created by monks in the south of France long before that overblown Dom Perignon in Champagne!).
Now, if and when you come to Japan, I will have you taste the following all made in Shizuoka to make you understand: Shizuoka distillery single malt whisky, fine Japanese sake from 27 distilleries in Shizuoka, splendid craft beers from 25 breweries in Shizuoka and some fine fruit liqueurs to top it all!
Next to come a few full meals! LOL (would you believe that here in Shizuoka, we can take you to a full all-American meal? Serious!)

I'm not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed when I found out they upgraded the Boston show from the small Brighton Music Hall to the much larger Paradise. I was really excited thinking I was going to get to see BAND-MAID in a small, intimate setting for probably the last time ever. I feel like the next time they tour, it will be in much larger venues and you won't get anywhere near the stage. No MISA, three feet from your face, rattling your teeth in your skull.
But good for them! I'm glad they are getting more and more popular. World Domination is just over the horizon!

World Domination is closer for them. I think of Rush they would play to large crowds yet it seemed very personable. I believe it will be the same with these ladies.

@@bm4-life I have found out that Bluetooth remote goes to sleep after a few minutes, and when you need to stop recording, it's better to actually touch the screen. But I have Huawei, so, iPhone may be different.
