- I'm sorry this First Time Playing Elden Ring episode took so long yall 😭 not only did this episode take twice as long to record/edit. I also got INJURED YESTERDAY?? Regardless, I made a promise and could stick to it so i apologize for that. Today we take on Leyndell and Margott and no spoilers but this episode is by FAR my favorite one. Hope yall enjoy!

@@GentleCrank Ehhh I wouldn't say Ezykes Decay is easy mode. Especially since it scales primarily with Dragon Communion Seal and high Arcane which he doesn't have neither of those. And Rotten Breath itself suuuuucks in comparison to Ezykes Decay. Also due to it being a Dragon Communion move, having to essentially be stationary while casting isn't really great. Although, I personally preferred Malenia's Scarlet Aeonia compared to Ezykes Decay because of the initial 2 hit portion & then the Scarlet Rot build up/proc. Even moreso because they buffed not only the damage iirc & they buffed the Poise while casting/using. So you no longer get stun locked out of it while using it.
If you remember when Godrick died, he said “I am the lord of all that is golden, and one day we will return together, to our home- bathed in rays of gold”
Leyndell is the home bathed in rays of gold that he was referring to

@@winston7055 yeah, the first cutscene of that fight is definitely up there with leyndell for me. I hadn't seen ANY trailers for the game before I beat it for the first time. So when that music hit, I was at hype level 1,000.

when my sister reached leyndell and saw the tree so close, she just bursted into tears.
For me, it was walking into Anor Londo In dark souls, one for the first time. It might be my favorite moments in all of gaming.
The two hour bombshell for the win lol. Also that little line Roderika says about “I know you’re strong, but please” is one of the first times someone shows genuine concern for YOU and not as the potential Elden Lord. Solidified her as best girl

2:02 I will say with Morgott saying you can't be elden lord bc the erdtree doesn't let anyone in does mean something if you know morgott's lore. He's an omen, someone that was born with horns on the body, and was thus considered cursed and a reviled being by the erdtree. At birth, he was locked underground in the sewers, and lived down there for a long time. Yet even though the erdtree didn't approve of him despite his royal birth, he still got out of the sewers and did his best to defend it and the principles behind it. Even though his deeds were never met with anything positive for him "thy deeds will be met with failure, just as I", he still loved it anyway. All the other demigod went and fought among themselves for pieces of the elden ring after it shattered, instead of sticking together and ruling the land. Which is why he calls them traitors. I got respect for him regardless, he deserves the title of king.
Melina is a support summon, she's a healer, a summon to keep you alive, not a DPS summon
If she dies and can't do her job then that's 100% your own fault

Davon the door you opened in the manor is a dungeon that will take you to Rykard. It’s a normal dungeon, the quest in volcano manor is optional and completing it will tp you the rykard skipping the dungeon.
But he needs that beautiful blasphemous blade especially if he wants to face Malenia hahahah
Just wait till he finds out that the biggest section of the city is the sewer system in the well he spent mere seconds in.
Not to mention the lever that opens the main city door mere minutes later
you can go back down the well in lyndell, you missed the bars to the left that open up to the rest of the sewer system 😉 also you can give D’s armor to the other D down in nokron, and if you defeat the twin gargoyles you can interact with an object in the arena under the waterfall and teleport to a new area for one of the best bosses in the game (plus you get Ds armor back). Id recommend doing this as soon as possible as its super easy to get over leveled for the area at this point

your bleed only scales with arcane if your weapon has arcane scaling so if you change the weapon type to bleed, poison or occult then the bleed will go up with your arcane level, but right now your arcane doesn't add extra bleed because your swords are standard and keen.

I'd recommend doing the assassination missions before killing Rykard, as killing him locks you out of them, on your save.
Also, If you want to complete any quest lines, do it before "The Big Guy" boss (you'll know when you're at him) as killing him locks you out of some quest lines.

It's so cool to see you using the rainbow stones!! So many people underappreciate the sheer variety and utility of the tools available to them in the inventory and crafting.

@@davobands That's great! It's worth at least giving SOME consideration to everything you have in your kit- once you think of your consumables and crafting in terms of 'What problems can I solve with this?' it becomes a lot easier and more satisfying to find uses for them!
Everyone that complains about the mimic is dumb. I wouldn't recommend using him for every boss, or on a first attempt because that would take a lot of the fun out of it and learning the moveset will benefit you in the long run since you're the one dodging it not your mimic. At the end of the day just enjoy the game, the sense of accomplishment you feel from defeating a boss will just be lessened by the mimic since you had help (some bosses you feel like you need it) so as long as you're happy I'll gladly be watching you along your journey to the elden ring!
Just FYI, the Lyndell Knights weapon art is called Lightning Slash and can be aquired from a scarab beetle for yourself if curious.
Also lightning does extra damage to enemies in metal armor, in the rain, or if they are standing in water
Edit ... there is much, much, much more to Lyndell sewers it is the same size if not bigger than the upper city just fyi.
Some non-spoiler Morgott lore for you:
One of the children of Godfrey, the first Elden Lord, and Marika. He's an omen, omens are born with horns, and are seen as impure and cursed. Omens traditionally have their horns cut off at birth which is usually fatal, but Morgott being born royalty was locked underground in the sewers along with his twin brother instead.
During the shattering, a great war, each demi-god claimed a shard of the Elden Ring, the Great Runes. Morgotts didn't think any of the demi-gods were worthy of being Elden Lord, including himself, so during the shattering he left the sewers and became the leader of the leyndell army. He's been working in the shadows as the stand-in king to prevent anyone whos not worthy from claiming the title of Elden Lord. He mainly was defensive keeping a strong army and trebuchets constantly guarding Leyndell so nobody can reach the erdtree, but he also sent his army to Mt. Gelmir to keep Rykard at bay.
The only variable that can upset the balance of power is the Tarnished, so he created the Nights Cavalry to hunt down the Tarnished to keep them from getting any of the Great Runes. He also has an alter ego, Margit, that he controls remotely for the same reason.
Melina is actually pretty great if you take advantage of the regenerating trees she summons, that's what she was trying to do when she was following you.

Keep in mind Radagons Soreseal and the Silver Tear mask both give you debuffs.
The Soreseal increase all damage you take by 15%
The Mask decreases all damage you do by 5%
Also the amount of caves and items you're missing by not looking around closer is crazy
Dude I don’t know how many times you’ve screamed ‘IS THAT A DRAGON!?!?’ but I’ll never get tired of it 😂
*An important tip about katanas:* they have TERRIBLE stagger and poise damage vs. enemies.
Other comments might call you out for using one hand vs. Eleonora for example and think this is nonsense, but what they don't understand is that you're actually *RIGHT* to do it.
*Review the footage of that fight:* when you dual-wield, you do not stagger her on every attack. When you one-hand, you *do.* This is night-and-day for how hard she is.
This is because katana stagger damage is basically non-existent while dual-wielding, so it's a weapon type where every variant can have it's use:
-Dual-wield for better DPS (specifically the jump attack and the roll recovery attack you get immediately after rolling are really good since they swing both blades in tandem)
-One-hand for a good balance of stats
-Two-hand (aka use both hands to wield one katana) a weapon to actually get decent stagger vs. bigger opponents.
All of these can be switched to on the fly, and you'll absolutely want to make use of all three, depending on the situation you're facing.
Did a katana playthrough myself a month or two ago, and this is something unique to a katana playstyle that most weapon types don't need to consider, so it's also something that only players who have used them (and recognized the problem) will tell you. You will continue to get comments calling you out when you don't dual-wield, but ignore them. There's a tool for every situation with katanas, and the only suggestion I'd make is that if you're ever fighting an enemy type and you're not staggering them with your swings even while one-handing, consider trying to two-hand the weapon to see if that does it.
27:48 That Purifying Crystal Tear you will need that in a specific boss keep that in mind. Your gonna need it bad.

Eleonora’s Poleblade is NICE and one of the best bleed weapons in the game
Unfortunately all of the other twinblades scale to get more bleed (which is dumb lol). The AoW can be good for getting bleed procs but you can just get ridiculous quick ones from PS any other bleeding twins

Originally, you would meet Bernahl at the Warmaster's Shack in Limgrave. He recently quit his moderately successful journey as a Tarnished.
Before moving on, there's a certain key item at an obscured village to the south western direction of Liurnia you should go find. There's a couple people there you should catch up with to get the key item. As for that prosthetic arm, it's future owner is on the east side of Caelid, that you've never met at a church you haven't been to. You've met an NPC in a shack in that area below them though who wants you to help them. The needle he needs is dropped by a boss in that swamp. Milicent is a common favorite character for people, and her quest leads to the endgame content and through Altus Plateau via the secret tunnel entrance to Altus. All of its worth checking out, and originally she could have been summoned to fight the Draconic Tree Sentinel.
Bro really googled and watched the entire path through volcano manor AFTER finding the prison town and then ruined the DTS fight with mimic tear after dying once 💀 I'm good lmao

While viewing an item in your inventory you can press x to toggle the description to view a bit of lore about it. From ingredients to weapons and spells, it’s amazing the detail that went into this world!
Just a general tip: Arcane only increases bleed for weapons that scale with it (such as blood or occult infusion). And it's worth noting that arcane won't boost the weapons you're using at all with the infusions you currently have. Additionally, if you give it the blood or occult infusion, bloodflame blade won't work with it.
Love this series man! I highly recommend you backtrack the areas before Leyndell becauss there is a lot of content and bosses you have missed, this game rewards exploring alot even the places you least expect things to be, much love from Sweden!

Really enjoying the playthrough. I caught the co-op video posted by Mike when you, Mike, Whiz, and Celest whooped some ass together. :) Good times! You're doing a good job. Despite the struggles, you've done great leveling your character and navigating through the bosses. It's worth noting that the well you found in Leyndell Capital leads to a huge underground sewer area with a boss fight. Pay no mind to the haters about using summons or similar things. You do what you've go to do. :) The Great Shield summons are pretty awesome, especially against foes that deal mostly physical damage. By the way, you can go back to Volcano Manor later and defeat Rykard after you complete all of the assassination quests. One one you got in the unrevealed area of the map is the last one you need to complete before you're given an audience with Rykard and can skip the difficult navigation to him.

Be sure to return to leyendell . There are some items in the city you will not be able to get later in the game. There is a legendary weapon on top of the spear the dragon is holding. Also nearby where you fought those two npcs there is a way to go upstairs in that building on the left side,there is a few goodies up there. Also the knight outside drops a sacred seal that works well for lighting spells. Besides that good luck on your journey.

If you want a amazing switchup, there's a legendary spear on top of the Dragon's spear in Leyndell, past Godfrey near where the Crucible Knight was, this is missable so I'd go get that even if you don't plan on using it.
When/if you get to the area where you fight Rykard, there will be an item to your left when you first enter. That’s the spear the glowing guy was talking about, and if you want an epic anime-style fight with a giant serpent monster use that weapon just for that fight regardless of how under-leveled it is or what it’s stats are. It’s super fun. 😉
33:53 LORE NERD EXPLANATION: You are near Stormveil castle. It wasn't originally Godricks castle. The lore says that someone named "The storm king" used to rule limgrave, and all of his former soldiers use wind magic to fight, and those big birds with swords on their legs are said to be the source of the wind magic. Much later in the game you can find the ashes of a giant magical hawk called "The storm king" it is implied that this was the previous ruler of Limgrave. So yeah, if there is a giant magical talking bird with wind magic, it's not hard to assume that other animals in the area could learn wind magic too. (Wolves dropping from the sky on bug gusts of wind magic)
FromSoft has history of showing how the magic of the most powerful beings seeps into the very land itself. (Raya Lucarians glintstone magic growing crystals on the nearby animals, Mohgs blood infecting the dogs and aulbinaurics, The rats gaining frenzy fire after eating afflicted corpses, or even the death blight crabs with Godwyns face on their backs.)
37:44 "No skill" is actually useful. If you are dual wielding two weapons with different skills, you can use No Skill on one of them so you always default to the other skill. Especially on shields with "Parry" which usually override your weapons skill.
*About Radagon's Soreseal:* This is a rather common beginner's trap. It reduces how much damage you can tank, but gives +5 Vigor. I forget, but someone calculated it out and it stops being a net-gain for survivability after 34 or 37 Vigor. This means you're basically already at the point you shouldn't be equipping it, and it only has uses as a VERY expensive means of improving certain stats. (STR, DEX, and Endurance)

That big dragon you killed is a good early game farming spot because when you deal the final killing blow, you get on the horse and go to the grace to respawn the dragon before it dies. If you are fast enough it respawns and you still get the ruins.

You can jump down from the balcony where the crucible knight and the green bug are after Godfrey, there's a legendary item on the giant golden spear
Maybe level up mind more since you are using buff spells often, this way you'll have more flasks available in general because you don't need to refill as often
idk if anyone’s mentioned it, but I didn’t see it: the “no skill” ash of war can be useful on left-hand armament, like shields, that have an ash of war of their own. If you’re holding a shield with a skill in your left hand, you won’t be able to use your right-hand weapon skill without two-handing the right-hand weapon. Put no-skill on that same shield, and you can hold it AND use your right-hand skill at the same time. Some shields already come with the No Skill ash of war for that reason.

The great shield soldiers, Black knife tische, The mimic tear, knights oleg and engvall, and pretty much all of the elite summons are all pretty op. All for different reasons. As you can see great shield fellas tank damage, and as long as they aren’t poise broken they’re insane. Especially at +10. They hold aggro for so long and will tank everything so that you can just obliterate the boss while they’re not even paying attention to you.
Loving your videos man. Don't listen to the haters, play the way you want, for real. And don't apologize for using the tools the game gives you, summons, etc. Just have fun. These have been fun for me to get my hype for dlc without having to start a new game. I watched too many to admit to this past weekend lol
FYI the silver tear mask lowers your physical weapon damage by 5%
The primary purpose of any summons is to draw aggro. If they do anything else, that’s a bonus.
Those Golems at the grand lift actually won't attack you (unless you attack them) if you come up through the lift. If you approach them from another direction, they will attack. Think of them as guards

If you want to finish the volcano manor quest you gotta wait till you get to the area after the capital. But you don’t really have to do the quest if you don’t wanna, there’s a way to fight the boss without it.
Hey David if you two hand your left handed weapon you can apply the buff to that one switch back to having both so you can apply to the other sword too. :)

The "No Skill" Ash of War is useful if you're playing with a shield in your left hand. U can put the ash on the shield and will be able to use the Ash of your right hand weapon even when you're one handing it.
1:57:00 in defense of Melina, she's a healer. If you stand near her she heals and buffs you.
Just a little tip! Whenever you get grabbed by enemies, you can actually escape faster and take less damage if you keep smashing the right and left bumpers! L1 and R1 for PlayStation and LB and RB for Xbox. Hope it helps for the future!

Dont worry about using mimic, morgott is really tough. People underestimate his difficulty because his attacks sppear similar to margit but arent actually the same, hes much more faster with less openings. He has a really unforgiving attack window, you'll find yourself trading damage a lot if you aren't very experienced.
I've done like 5 playthroughs, lowest level i beat him was at level 30 and I hated my life.
I feel for the rune level 1 playthrough players
But legit bring some freeze pots, i beat him as a lvl 1, and my dragon halberd didnt give him a chance lol
Make sure to grab the bolt of Gransax. It scales mainly with dex and is found at the top of the gold coiled structure at 1:22:45
Hey Davo another thing you might like to use is the Gold-Pickled Fowl Foot (Patches sells 3 of them) if you eat them you gain 25% more runes for three minutes, its really good to pop at the end of a big boss fight

The rest of the sewers is beyond a door in the well that you jumped down at about 1:32:50. It's certainly not as disappointing as you thought.
