  • I witnessed two brothers fishing the other day and when the youngest got a backlash what followed should have surprised him and taught him something. I’m not sure it did but in today’s episode I’d like to share what I’ve learned from this situation.

I have had this happen to me several times in my bass fishing career. I started to learn from it and changed tactics. I have had some very productive days listening to the fish. Thanks for the story Mark!

This is so true, I do the kayak thing and I was fishing last year by a boat. Got a birds nest 🪹 picked it out for a good 30+seconds go to reeling and bam it was like a 16”er or so we just all laughed even the guys in the boat. Hope y’all have an awesome weekend Mark.

Ive become an avid power worm angler. In order to work an area, sometimes ill use the cast to a location, wait, begin the retrieve, and if they haven't shown interest, reel it in quick and go again. Did that recently and on two straight casts, got a side swipe slam hit from two fish running in at it as it appeared to be running from them. I rerigged the worm. Tried that method again, and this time i was able nab him. Work with the fish, not against them. Thanks mark

It’s amazing how much they will “tell” us if we’re open to listening!

The only other add I have to this thread, then I'll let you alone. Bass have a tendency to tell me where to look by working the top of the water. You can see their ripples at they move, they splash at bugs, warm water makes them "jumpy", almost giddy, they like to take pot shots at things swimming around on the surface. I've actually thrown into a spot where I saw a splash or heard one and saw the wake. Isn't a fool proof method, but has been productive.

You’re right. It’s all part of being observant of what is going on around you.

One of the biggest bass I've caught came from me having to put my rod down after just making a cast with a spinner bait. After taking care of a different rod, I picked up the one with the spinner bait on it, picked up the slack and as soon as the bait started to move it got slammed! Have a great weekend

its happened to me few times, matter fact my pb bass came on me dead stiking my bait on the bottom, I needed to readjust my seat for like 15 seconds and when I notice the big 7lb bass had my lure.
