This is THE best beginner, step-by-step oil painting video I've ever seen. It was easy to follow, well explained and I believe that, yes, I can do it! Thank you. Please put out more beginner videos maybe with different subjects? Landscapes?
Yes even as a beginner that has experience & understanding the language makes it even better. U feel totally confident when working it.. I use this as a practice either for myself or starting student out. Once they start Nervous scared and unsure, And as they go through it they feel more comfortable and by the end they're actually surprised at themselves of what they did. You usually hear someone say I didn't think I can do that.. Thanks Yupari. For posting it..👍
Wonderful! I would love to see more beginner friendly pieces like this.
Thank you !
I used to hate oil paint soooo much everytime I tried, I failed, until i saw this video..I ended up painting a very nice picture and im so happy. Its my first happy oil painting... Now I dont hate oils anymore
This is SO FANTASTIC! Please More still lifes 🙏
Excellent tutorial, Yupari. So much detail in the explanation! Thank you.
Great tutorial. The colour mixing and matching explanation was excellent.
Thank you! You are an excellent instructor! Very grateful for your demo and instructions. SO helpful! Keep it up!
Thank you for sharing this video! So so helpful!
Great tutorial. You're not just a good artist, you're an excellent teacher as well.
Well done and thank you.
Thank you for this. I've loved making art all my life, but have never been standardly "good" at it without tracing and copying. I decided to get my first set of oil paints today, and followed a few videos with horrible results.
Then, I found this video. And I sat down and tried again, and really impressed myself. It turned out sloppy, don't get me wrong, but I understood values for the first time, and feel confident about trying again until I can get it perfect. This was the boost of confidence I needed to not abandon learning to truly paint, after feeling very discouraged. Thank you so much.
Great in depth extremely beginner friendly lesson. Thank yo so much. God bless you. Wish you all the good luck..
so straightforward and clear thankyou Yupari
you're great at explaining! Thank you!
this is my new favourite channel. thankyou Yupari !!
I’ve been wanting to do an oil painting for a long time, thank you for giving me the inspiration
Thank you for the most excellent tutorial.
I was very successful with my very first oil painting, this green apple.
I loved your step-by-step painting demonstration. Do you have any more step-by-step painting demonstrations. I went through the You Tube videos and yours was by far the best!
Thank you Yupari !
You are a great teacher! Thanks!
Please do more for never painting before you are such a inspiration. Thank you 🙏
Recently getting back into oils again and definitely a beginner. The time you took to explain each step was important and it helped me understand why each part of your technique served a purpose :) thank you so much!
by far the BEST beginner tutorial i’ve seen, thank you!!!
Wonderful demonstration, I would have loved to see this done using only the primary colors plus white and burnt umber, I think that is a palette every beginner would have and would better illustrate the basics of color mixing.
Its amazing!!!!!
From Egypt...thank u💙💙💙💙
My favourite channel now, you explanations are so clear, love all your work, thank you So much !!
I love watching you work. I really enjoyed this video since I'm a beginner and can relate to the content. Do you plan to do more of these? Thanks!
Very well done & explainable for any beginner. The simplicity of "back to basics" backbone of good painting. Even as a veteran artist/teacher myself I constantly have to remind myself of these principles & have a wonderful way to make these understandable for any painter's skill level. Please do continue in your endeavor.
Thank you so much really helpful appreciate the close up the brush and the paint color.
Excelent!
You make it seem so easy I'm hypnotized
Thanks, I will definitely try this.
yes will try this
What a brilliant demonstration. I'll be taking the principles into my next class where I'll be painting a pear in umber tones
Dude, thanks for the video, it was the kickstart that i needed in order to lose fear to paint. I watch the video and aftr y paint it from memory, knowing what to expect. I ended with a very weir colored apple, but the values were quite ok. Now that I finally started I will keep practicing mixing colors and beginning in portrait
Awesome!
I think you are a very fine teacher - sharing all the details of what materials you use and then you show in a very fine way how a classic alla prima oil painting can be made. I also admire. How you show your palet in process side by side with the painting. And it was interesting that you showed how it was possible when you paint wet in wet to make a kind of "glazing" with the little bit of thinner paint. A beautifull study to learn from. And absolutely the best introduction to oil painting I have seen.
Thank you so much for this beginners video!! Please, please do more. I have been trying to learn this style of painting for a year and this helped SO much!
Agree!
This is one of the best oil instructional videos I have seen. Thank you! I have been working in acrylics because of the fast drying time and ability to correct drawing and color errors quickly. These advantages to acrylics make creating soft edges and gaining luminosity harder; I am at the point that I cannot get the nuanced effects I want (at least not without multiple layers and repainting background colors to establish soft edges. This video and your clear instructions have inspired and encouraged me to open up my oils-which until now have just been sitting accusingly in a corner of my studio! Thanks again and please post more!
thank you -excellent instruction
This was brilliant, really enjoyed it. Thanks so much!
Thank you for tutorial how to paint green apple. Wonderful painting.
Very detailed and fine info and process easy to follow - great for beginner
Another very useful video. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome stuff Yupari!
Very helpful....I'm going to try it now.
I learned a lot with your videos man! Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much, this is a great video! I just finished my apple and love it! Mine came out quite a bit darker than yours because I couldn't find cad green but I think it came out very well anyway. I'm going to go find another of your tutorials to follow! ((right after I clean literally all of my brushes XD )
Perfect, thanks for sharing
Excellent, thank you very much.
Thank you so much for putting beginners video, I am trying to get back to painting, lost my confidence, I just know your video will help me and praying you keep helping us...I and sure others like me appreciate this very much, thank you so very much and God bless you, and everyone watching and appreciating, Mars
Excellent leçon for beginners like me😊 Thanks 🙏🙏
thank you for this! i have only ever painted with watercolour and acrylics and i bought my very first set of oil paints recently. i found this really simple to follow and i have painted a lovely looking apple!
i think i actually found it easier than painting with acrylic. it's easier to blend because it doesn't dry so quickly :)
I have been painting small still lifes for awhile now and found this video to be a great refresher on the basics. At times I forget the basics and am then fighting with the paint haha
This is exactly what I wanted to find. I subbed.
Had to do still life project and since I work with oils, decided to try this. I'll update the final results when im done.
Outcome: 100% :) It looked almost exactly to the video so Im proud haha
I want to tell you that you are a great teacher.....i watched all your videos and helping me very much....thank you
excellent job of teaching. entry level videos like this are hard to find. thanks
Dumbledore,is that you?
Thank you so much about this. I just started to paint in general and with ofc oil painting and that helped me a lot! Amazing results, you are really a good teacher :)

Thank you for this video, it was very helpful :) gonna share it with others
Thanks very much, Yupari. Not all good painters are good teachers. You’re both.
God bless you.
Totally agree with you
Totally agree with you
great tutorial! thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I am one of them who is so worry starting with oil painting, and never learn about it. I will try after seeing this!💚😇
Awesome thank you very much
It’s been years since I’ve done oils. I just bot supplies & hope to get back into it. I lost all my paintings 5 yrs ago in the Paradise Camp Fire. It’s time to start over. My home will be finished soon & I’ll have a place to paint again😻
Thank you for this demo. I bought a set of oil paints and I’ve been scared to start. This was very helpful
This is excellent tuition and as helped me a lot Thank YOU, Now Subscribed.
Perfect - thanks very much.
Beautiful Thank you
Thank you... very helpful!
It's looking so easy...I hope it is when I'll do it..❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video. So many of these instructional emphasize NOT to blend or soften edges which I find a bit perplexing which mean I have to mix every single value. Glad to see it in action.
I just tried this out. Without thinking about the fact that you didn't, I covered my canvas in liquid white before starting. I had to adjust my technique a bit and couldn't follow the tutorial as closely as I would have liked (I like to learn things the way the teacher does them before adding my own flair) but it turned out great! It is my favorite of the half dozen or so paintings I have done so far. Even if I am able to reach a much more advanced skill level in oil painting, this one will always have a place on my wall.
I’m a acrylic artist and now I’m wanting to go into oils. I really enjoyed your video. I followed along with you and my apple came out perfectly. Thank you for taking the time to teach us newbies. :)
He's very good as an artist and as a teacher

Yupari, I’m an so grateful for this video as I’m starting out myself and using CZcams as my teacher.
This is so valuable to us beginners and we appreciate endlessly, thank you.
I know you mostly do portrait tutorials and I love them.
Is it possible for you to do a video just like this but for portrait beginners as well?
Again thank you and Happy new year Yupari!

You are awesome in explaining oil painting for beginners. I wish you would do more oil painting tutorials for beginners. I have been painting acrylics for 6 years and I felt it was time to switch to oils. Your breakdown and explanation is very clear to understand. I was sad in searching your name on CZcams there are limited videos for first time beginners. Please consider doing more videos.
I like this guy.
Thanks!
I'm going to have a go.
As a kid who was big into art I was dying to learn to oil paint..we didn't have the internet to just look up a video, I needed to go to a class..I was nervous about going to a only adult class so I asked my mom to come, she said I couldn't draw a box, I told her it wasn't a drawing class but was an oil class, so she came..she got realy good and now 30 years on she still dose paints for others..she loves buildings and landscapes..but I've not painted since before my daughter was born, my thing has always been animals...I was only thinking about starting something..theres still so much paint here because of my mother ..who still cant draw a box but is and has been turning out masterpieces years..so anyone who would like to try..to start you need the primary colours along with titanium white and a cheap canvas..you can get cheap boards and stretched canvas in pound or euro stores, I'm sure youd get them in dollar stores in the states as well..in fact a saw a vlog of a family in dollar tree in the states and they passed wood frame mounted canvas..a dry clean rag , kitchen paper and paint thinner..turpentine or white sprits and your good to give it a go..dont be scared of it..have fun with it....even if you think you cant..its nothing like drawing ...I've been offered €2000 to do someone's dog and I've not picked up a brush in 20 years..and I have no clue how I'll construct it..here looking for refreshers
Thank you!)
omaigaaaddd...how u do it...its sssoooooooo ammmmaaaazinggggggggggg...
awesome video. could you please explain how you achieved soft edge on right side of the painting?
Thank you
thanks , that was awsome I even think i like my apple
My fav part of this video was e word ‘super simple’… it was so encouraging somehow, although to me ,as an amateur, was always ‘so near yet so far’…😅 . Im one of your fans btw, loved all your paintings…
Super:-)
Gawd I wouldn't touch the perfect apple with the mineral spirits at the end!!
A nice video - a few things aren’t clear about brush mixing and loading. I tried about two thirds of the video and ran through a dozen brushes - quite a lot for a beginner painting. When you are mixing paint - how much of the bristles touch the paint? Yours seem to be less than a third full but mine ended up full. Similarity - when I use the same stokes I don’t get full canvas coverage with the paint as it starts moving the paint around. Lastly - when you are blending - how do you avoid darker paint ending up in the wrong place after the first stroke - for example - on the stem on the second stroke it caries the paint back to the base of the stem.
Thank you so much for this question! When you are painting wet on wet, it is easier to add thinner paint onto thicker paint. This is how I was able to add the stem on the apple, it was thinned out with solvent. About the paint handling: Firstly make sure you have artist quality oil paints, and explore way the paint handles without any solvent/medium. I’d then try using a little bit of solvent to explore the way it handles when it’s thinned out. Usually a drop at a time is recommended. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching !
