    As a student whom actually went through blocks 1-4 I can say this program does work. This is an excellent video that gives you a really good idea of how the teaching and methods work for this program. I had a hard time deciding at first if evolve was worth my time, coming from 20+ years of previous experience. Even so, it proved well worth it and filled in many gaps for me and also allowed me to integrate the teaching into what I do after I completed block 4. I am now working my way through the advanced program. This video would have been very helpful a year ago when I joined, in helping me decide and understand evolve better. I’m glad to see it here now, and hope it can help anyone else considering this program to decide if it is right for them.

    The systematic nature of how this program teaches really works with how my planning brain thinks. This is a very approximate way to say it but I have explained why Evolve Artist appeals to me by saying that I think/work best in spreadsheets & protocols & this program feels similar.

      That's awesome to hear! Yes we take a very methodical approach to learning art and give our students a very clear and even rigid process to start, like having training wheels. One simple step at a time. Our vision here is that our students "learn the rules like a pro," in the words of Picasso. Once they learn the "rules," the world of art opens up to them to freely create art without any limitations 😁~ Daniel

    • @evolveartist
      @evolveartist  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you 😊 It can take some time to figure out, since it is not a mathematical formula. Pulling away from the pile, creating a flat area of paint, and keeping the paint only on the top half of the brush will hopefully help you find that optimal amount. One of the things that I didn't show very often in my video was how often I went back for more paint. But you can see in the squares exercise 3:02 how I went back for more paint after covering a very tiny area (and I continued to do that throughout the exercises) ~ Daniel

    This is a great video. I will try these exercises. I am an absolute beginner with no background beyond what the incredible Mrs. K. taught us back in middle school. The structured approach seems great.
    However, since I have no intention of becoming a professional and am now retired the cost of the entire program is prohibitive. If there was a way to take just Block 1, for example, or skip the expensive paints and supplies, that would be good.

    • @evolveartist
      @evolveartist  Před rokem +1

      Hey Gary, this is good feedback for us. We currently don’t have Block 1 available by itself, because we view it as the launchpad for the results we’re really aiming for with our students, which comes together in Block 4. We do have payment plans available, however, and we are currently working on a more customizable payment plan - so stay tuned for that when it rolls out on our website. bit.ly/go-evolve Thanks again Gary 🙂 ~ Daniel

      @evolveartist  Před 11 měsíci

      Hey Cynthia, I understand. While we do everything we can to make the Evolve program as affordable as possible, a lot goes into supporting our team of instructors to ensure our students get constructive feedback on each of their painting assignments, access to 1-1 meetings, live classes, video chat painting sessions, etc., not to mention the high quality supplies that come included. While these expenses do affect the price of our program, we are confident that the value of them far outstrips the cost, so that we can be a comprehensive education that truly delivers on our promise. Hopefully things open up for you soon. In the meantime I really hope that these videos on our CZcams channel and the training videos are super helpful for you and of course, let me know if you have any questions 🙂 ~ Daniel

    Thank you, Daniel! Don't we need to use a linseed oil with the oil paints?

    • @evolveartist
      @evolveartist  Před rokem

      That can depend on the oil paint you are using! I made this video specifically for beginners (and non-Evolve students) and I didn't want to add anything more than what was necessary for people starting out. You can absolutely use linseed oil if you know what you're doing with it, but it's not necessary. In the Evolve Artist program, however, we start you off with a simple process to use the perfect amount of linseed oil in your paint every time 😊 let me know if you have any questions Iryna! ~ Daniel

  • @fiterflite
    @fiterflite Před 2 lety +1

    What about solvent? I have mini tunes of oil paint that was gifted to me, idk if I need to ventilate to use them and if I need thinner or anything? They are cheap paints.

    • @evolveartist
      @evolveartist  Před 2 lety +5

      Hey 😊good questions! Whether you need thinner really depends on what paint you are using, but as a guess I would recommend that you do not use any solvents or thinners to start. One less thing to worry about 😊
      I was working with Old Holland paint (super high quality and very dense compared to most other brands) and while I did not NEED to use thinner, I did thin my paint piles down with just a few drops of linseed oil to make it a little easier and faster to paint. But if I was working with other reputable quality brands like Winsor & Newton, I would not have used a thinner. Thin paint can actually make it harder to make gradients.
      Now most cheap paints have fillers in them anyways, and adding paint thinner to them can make them harder to cover. This is one of the many reasons why I recommended using high quality paint - you can go cheap with some things, even brushes, but cheap paint can really get in the way of fun and of learning.
      Now, on the note of ventilation, which really depends on how toxic the materials you are using are. If you are not working with toxic material, your room does not need to be ventilated any more than any livable room ought to be. You can avoid toxic solvents like mineral spirits and turpentine to use cold pressed linseed oil to thin your paint instead. The next question is how toxic your paints are. Most oil paints are not toxic, including cheap paint. You might be able to look up the brand / pigments to see if they are toxic just to be sure.
      Let me know if that answers your questions! 😊~ Daniel

    Aslo sent an email. I worry about courses like this. Tried taking a drawing class from the teaching company when I started two years ago, felt like I was becoming a draftsman or architect and I was horrible at it. Quality oil paint gives off a very faint odor, but not as strong as acrylic. Higher quality brands smell less, because there are less smelly fillers in them. Also, the vast majority of oil paint is not toxic and safe to use. Just make sure you are aware of which pigments can be toxic (cobalt, lead, cadmium, etc.) before purchasing. Can this be done with Digital painting? I don't have the space to learn Oil Painting.

      Yes! You can apply the same general process to digital painting 😊 ~ Daniel

    Daniel, can a person finish your curriculum I half a year when he's paying for only 6 months

    • @evolveartist
      @evolveartist  Před 2 lety +2

      Here’s how payment works. There are two options: 1) you pay all up front or 2) you pay through a 12 month payment plan (like a phone payment plan). Either way, when you join you have access for life and you can go through the curriculum at your own pace and your pace does not change the payment.
      For example, if you did the payment plan and finished the curriculum in 6 months, you would still pay the remaining 6 months. On the flip side, if you did the payment plan and are only halfway through the curriculum at the end of 12 months, you would still be in the program but you would no longer be paying. Let me know if I answered your question 😊 ~ Daniel

    Can you help someone who has absolutely no background in art? I do love what I have seen from your students, but I am pretty old in comparison, and any attempts at "art" are decades ago.

    • @evolveartist
      @evolveartist  Před 2 lety +1

      Absolutely! We have had plenty of people from all ages (including senior citizens) who have no background in art join the Evolve program and come out with consistent results. As long as you can work comfortably for a few hours at a time and can follow instructions carefully, you should be fine! 😊 and you might find some friends your age! you can learn more about the program on our website here: EvolveArtist.com

      @@evolveartist Thank you for your response. I'm really not that old, but it feels that way when I watch all the Evolve related videos out there. I am just watching a lot of videos on Evolve right now to make sure it is right for me, and each video encourages me more. I really appreciate the simple to complex teaching since I don't have no idea wha tI don't know, or what is possible. Thanks again

    I also find the music to be very distracting and annoying. If I turn off the sound and watch the closed captioning, I miss what you are doing while I read the captions. Otherwise, your video is great and I love how you show the steps so clearly.

    I don’t like music in the background, It is sensory overload to me.I had to fight to hear and understand what you are saying so I turned off the sound then didn’t watch the end of the video. Just my two cents,
