I wish Russia had the competition of the same level as this one for musicians up to 18 years old, not 14 like the Nutcracker or Blue Bird competition. “Music expresses wordless odyssey’s.” This movement, in my humble opinion, is one of the greatest in music literature. King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes “Sorrow is better than laughter, for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.” I was moved to tears. I said to a friend just earlier today how, as a child, when I listened to classical music my little soul would ring like a bell. What was I to do? I didn’t know then as a know now that this was just the beginning vibrations of what I now call my “musical grace.” Elgar struck a rich vein of gold with this concerto and the fourth movement is the diadem. This confirms why I often call classical music philosophical music. It is like that profound proverb, “the spirit of man is the candle of The Lord searching all the inward parts of the belly.” These pieces I have perceived over the years run quite parallel to powerful transformative experiences in my own life. That mournful theme brings to mind the dark and dank dungeon where I was imprisoned in my early youth. There were no words to describe the constant palling ache in my soul and spirit. Consequently, I was an exceptionally quiet child. But music was my fail safe refuge. Now at the age of sixty-nine I enjoy the most moving of studies in contrast chiefly because those potentially crushing events have become the genius of the gorgeous flower of my life. I have helped countless others with words of encouraging grace. I am a writer and vocalist. I sing regularly to souls who are crying out for sympathy and compassion. Many are also moved to tears as their souls bear witness to another who has triumphed through the “dark and cloudy” days of this “veil of tears.” This young musician is amazing and seems to have enjoyed the support of a loving family. I trust and pray he will learn humility of deportment and the wonderful grace it affords a life and any one who understands that the gifts we have we received from the hand of The Lord Jesus. PWG
