The irony of Nike acting like they care about mom and pop stores again and they had a whole campaign of shutting down stores a few years ago and threatening to pull accounts if they didn’t take on multiple pairs of shoes that won’t sell just to get Jordan release pairs.

I just ordered these shoes. Now I am fairly new to sneaker collecting, but I know I love these. I like them over the 2015s because I feel like these are more realistic. Truly a good shoe 10/10

Chicago 1’s are the holy grail of sneakers. I’m so happy to have the opportunity to cop. This will be my 1st Chicago 1 release. And it’s weird cause I been a sneakerhead since the mid 2000’s. It’s just I wasn’t into 1’s in the beginning. I thought they were plain & they resembled dunks. But as I grew up & gained more knowledge, my love for 1’s came. These are definitely sneaker of the year. Only sneakers that come close to competing against these are the Orange Lobster SB’s. But we don’t even know when they release. And that’s if they release. Good luck 🍀 to everybody going after a pair of these Chicago 1’s!

The reason why the shape looks like a cross between 1985 cut and the modern cut from what I’ve heard is that they said the shape of this one is supposed to mimic the 1994 ones because they still want to keep the 1985 cut for the AJ1 ‘85 line.
It’s just weird to put the receipt from the 80s in them
This isn’t like the 1995 cuts. Still has that curvature heel.

Mom and pop stores used to stock Jordans, used to do sales and yes, you could often get them for under $40 on sale. But what used to be a cool shoe for the streets became a fashion and culture status symbol, and quickly Jordan realised that mom and pop stores were not really projecting the image they wanted, nor could they offer the supply chain support network of major retailers. And over time, that's where we ended up: the level of hype may ebb and flow, but the Jordan 1 is still an aspirational shoe.
When I was a baby my mom bought me a pair at Woolworths
Funny because besides Dick's Sporting Goods, the only store to carry Jordan 1s at our city's mall is a Mom & Pop store called All-Sports.
I remember seeing the black and red and royals in Boston's Filene's Basement. Don't remember how much they were but couldn't have been more than $20 bucks because my mom offered to buy me a pair but back then all the kids my age really cared about was the Chicago colorway so I passed on them.

Chicago is a spectacular shoe. Part of me wants more than one pair so I can crease the second one up and give it some character. Creasing on the ones is super nice.

Great video Seth! I too paid a ridic price from Goat but I have wanted these for so long. Dont own any chicago 1s and agree with sneaker of the year. The story line is so damn cool too! Definitely a collectors item, well the box and receipt anyways because I wear all of my shoes. Would love to hit a raffle to be able to keep a pair DS. Thanks for the solid review! I want to put sail or cream laces in mine to see what it looks like. Even though MJ wore all 3 lace colors I agree with black laces are the most iconic.

Depends how high stock is, which seems to be good based on the shitload of recent leaks. Also the J1 has fallen out of hype. I'd expect them to be at least half that on release. Not every shoe is/should be $1k on release. Chicago's from 2015 were way below that before the Last Dance...

It’s actually styled more to the 1994 pair, not the 1985. In terms of the shape
It’s a hybrid. The toebox is an ‘85 the ankle is a ‘94.
Worked at a mom and pop shop and snagged a lot of great stuff when they went under. Great story.

Man i really hope resale ain’t too high on these but i must admit at first i wasn’t too convinced with the pictures, but after the review these are fire. For me the top 3 of the year are j1 Chicago, j2 j Balvin and bad bunny forums. I feel like these are the only releases of the year I really want, which is nice bc now I’m starting to get releases from the past that i didn’t get to buy, such as infrared 6s and j1 amm which are my most recent buys. But i also want the j2 amm j6 Travis and j11 bred, which are the main ones on my list

As Chris from WearTesters has correctly said in his video review of the AJ1 high neutral gray, a shoe cannot be considered shoe of the year if it is unattainable and readily accessible to the general public. If only bloodsucking resellers and the rich can afford to own a pair, and your average sneakerhead can't get to own one, then it's pointless. And aren't these still unreleased? Hmmmm. How does GOAT have them as instant ship?! And another thing, this is straight up insult by Nike trying to dedicate this release to mom & pop stores when they've put several of them out of business with their DTC push

@Luis Angel what you're willing to be happy with to be honest. If you love them enough and aren't going to be afraid to crease or wear them don't do it but you're going to drop close to or over 500 for them. Is it worth that...? To me yes but it is all in how much you love the shoe

Call me a bitter old man but they fumbled this execution. The new 85 cut on the neutral greys and georgetowns are beautiful. Why not just use that? Would’ve been an easy home run.

85 cuts look ugly, it makes the shoe look too big and extra long. That’s why I passed super hard on the Georgetown 1s. Dope colorway but the 85 cut threw me off
