  • 1960's vise complete restoration. Craftsman 5" bench vise, produced by Columbian, most likely in Cleveland, Ohio. This vice features pipe clamps beneath the jaws, a swivel base, and a miniature anvil on the back. My grandfather gifted me this vise after he died, and I've finally given it the treatment it deserves.

The filing sounds while in fast motion had me chuckling. Great job!

Thank you! I certainly hope so. It was my grandpa's and he nearly made it to 100.

Very nicely done, no Overkill or excessive removal of material , a nice user Vise good for a 100 years, but be careful not to scratch the paint for a while😂

What a workout. I had to take a nap when I was done watching. Good job

nice job. have same vice and restored it, you did a lot better sanding job than I did. Also have never had much success with birchwood blueing. Whenever I have used it it always ended up looking sort of rusted even after oil. Brownell does a better product imo

I'll try that next time. I had to soak it in oil for a while before it started looking alright. The anvil never did look that good, not that it really matters though.

I'd recommend it. With a little oil, mine worked decently before I restored it, but it's really nice now. Can't wait to ding it back up!

Great job. Any information on the red paint you use?

I wanted to use "dupli-color paint shop" , but decided to go with Rust-Oleum, because the red looked slightly deeper. Primer isn't required, but I used the same brand primer because the original paint seemed to have primer beneath it.

bad ass anyone know how to date one

I had to search a lot online, but there are markings that change every few years that help date them. I lost the document I found, unfortunately.
