"I went to sell 2 cars. I came home with 6." 😂😂😂
Two comedians, two car nuts. Fluffy and Jay really enjoyed each company, what a great episode!😎👍
Only guy missing is Tim Allen
A car nut would understand if his car was out of gas or not.
Nice car
😁 I get it... I sold 1994 car because it was too old. And 2 weels later I bought 1972 car ...
@@KZCAN 1994 is just an old car, 1972 is a classic... subtle difference 😎
I love how Gabe just goes on and on about how nice it is and Jay just stands there and smiles.
Its hard to impress a man that has or has had about every car ever made
I know Right! Jay is such a Punk!
I love it: “Let’s go for a drive” (Gabe’s own car) and Jay immediately sits in the drivers seat 😄😄
And Fluffy hasn't driven it yet!
I guess Jay is just so used to driving at this point in the show. 🤠
The Text on What’s App is a scam😡
The Text on What’s App is a scam😡
Hey, it’s his show - definitely a perk for a car guy
honestly I wasn't happy about that, I think proper etiquette would be to let Fluffy take it out first and then Jay drive it afterwards.
Jay is like the older bro checking the car 😂
@Pablo, For sure haha.
To me it sounded like it wasn't exactly running right Jay may have to take him to the side after this video off camera make him get his fluffy little fingers dirty another I'm watching this I think she's a little mad that fluffy doesn't know what he's got hes got!
@@johnsheetz6639 older engines sounded differently. Plus modern fuel can have an effect on older engines.
Gabriel asking Jay if he can sit in his own car is hilarious 😂
Please Trump, can I smell your farts?
That's respect
He wasn't asking permission he was making another fat joke. Whoosh.
on his show
Fluffy shows respect where it's due because jay is a true GOD of cars.
Fun fact: In 1970, the SS 396 Chevelle actually had a 402 in it. The 402 was a bored out 396. It was marketed as a 396 in some cars, and the Turbo-Jet 400 in other cars, even though it was actually the same engine.
He’s out of breath just walking around the car
The 1970 Chevelle Malibu also had the 402, but it was marketed as the 400.
@@TOCC50Well, it's a big car! 😂
What's fun about that 😂
Actually the Late model 69’s were also 402
I really enjoyed the comedian banter between Fluffy and Jay. And clearly Fluffy was impressed with the driveability of the Chevelle.
Yes he has a beautiful car that appears to be very well built like a daily driver. With a 396 dream car
Ahhh yes .. Banter lol
Very much so. A very fun episode. Fluffy's obvious love for the car is infectious.
Jay's enjoying driving it.
what a beautiful car. Back in the 90's, my high school girlfriend's dad had a 68 396 Chevelle car in the pasture and he loved to tell me the old street racing stories, and I loved to hear them. I drove a 74 nova and he appreciated that but looked down on the bumper. Those were good times. I still prefer the thin tail lamps of the 68. Both the 74 and the girl were my first. Luckily, i still have the car. Memories!
I remember kids still drag racing on back roads, organized with a party going on the sidelines. Kids just a bit older than me in 1980. The road was called "Hawley road" in Mason county Michigan. I check it out once, (I just got my license and a hand me down, and handed down again car. Older brother first). Just like going to a sporting event, but free. :) I thought the Nova was tough. People sure made them run. I got into dirt bikes instead, (big growth there, like early muscle cars), and picked up a 2007 Mustang with a V-6 in it. I never had a 300-350hp muscle car, so a couple years after obama got elected, I put a roots blower on it, (plus a lot more stuff to get it up to that stuff), modded it more and just had it restored. I like the original old man muscle car better, but it will do. Cervini side pipes, (much more loud than I thought they would be) insure I don't drive it often. :) Looks a bit like like Elinor from the remake.
@@EarthSurferUSA you put a roots blower on a V6 mustang?!
Her did didnt car your doing hes daughter or he is one of those macho men "boys will be boys" type. Haha
Man went up for free food and came out with a Chevelle. WIN WIN
Hopefully he ate and drank enough to offset those obscene BJ auction fees he paid.
Go Fluffy! Good to see he enjoys the fruit of his labors. Really nice piece here.
Yes he deserves the car, but Mr Fluffy shoud enjoy some real actuall fruit also. It would do him good.
Had a '69 396 SS in 1969.
One of the sweetest Chevelles ever. 💕
Poppycock
They make a good team! I hope to see more of them together again in the future.
Me too, I was thinking the same thing🤣
They got a few on the channel fyi

"Cooked"?
Being a teenager in the 70’s, I remember seeing these cars a lot. The fastest street racer in our town drove one, our H/S quarterback had one, (as though he needed more help scoring chicks), and my friends mom had one with a six-banger. They were seemingly everywhere. Not so much anymore. This was the exact combination I always wanted. What a beauty!
Love seeing Jay bond w a fellow comedian. They all have a special connection to each other. Get well soon, Jay!
VW are garbage
My love for Fluffy grew a million times bigger knowing hes a car guy.
Hard-core car guy. Really dedicated
Yeah so hardcore he didn’t even remember what year the car was
Dear Jay thanks for showing this chevelle. I have a 1969 Chevelle SS396 that ive had 45 yrs now. Its Frost Green Metallic. Light green interior with a bench seat. 350 hp 396 .60 over 375 ho solid lifter cam , TRW forged 11to 1 pistons. Quadrajet Carb and M21 4 speed trans, It has 195,000 miles on it , 95,000 on engine rebuild. I had this car in high school, was my drive away car when married in 1990. I brought my twin sons home from hospital in it after they where born. Its one of the Greatest Cars that General Motors Made in 1969. Where putting you First , Puts us First. And I always enjoy driving it and will always keep it.
In high school, a guy I knew bought a Chevelle just like this, except green. He got it inexpensively, because it just didn't have much power.
After a little investigative work, we discovered two plug wires were crossed !!
Crossing those two wire, and WOW, a powerful great running car !!
What a great contrast between Jay, who loves cars as machines, loves driving and knows every technical detail, and Gabriel, who loves cars as artifacts, loves collecting and buys a car without knowing a thing about it
I'll bet he was NOT happy in being more diligent when it came time to finally jump behind the wheel w/o a tilt column!
@@M21L35 it's not a sport option ...
"Speaking of 396" lmfao no one jokes about his weight more than he does.
And Jay's comment about how Fluffy's gym told him not to mention what gym he goes to, lol.
Unfortunately there is no one else because most of them are dead. They were some of my favorites. Pinette, Farley, May, Candy…….Glad Gabriel is taking his health a bit more seriously.
Lol it went over my head but now I get it hahah

One of the greatest cars ever built ! Sweet buy Fluffy!!
The man who ordered that new, knew how to spec a Chevelle as the Porsche GT3 of muscle cars and as an investment for fifty years time. The foresight is impeccable.
Could have ordered the 350 or 375 hp version
Would have been nice with factory air but otherwise a very nice example of a 69 muscle car.
Nothing stock about this
I feel bad thinking preservation but not the enjoyment was his purpose all that time.
@@goleafsgo8496 LOL, it's a frame
He is so funny, happy to see Jay and Gabriel together. This was one of the most awesome videos! Thanks Jay !
That’s a fine car. Oldest brother- in - law has a ‘69 Chevelle, but not original. The ‘68 Chevelle had vent windows. Our family had a ‘69 BelAir. It got passed on through the family. Back then cars were fun to work on. I miss those days.
Removing the vent windows in 1969 for the somewhat faulty Astro Ventilation was a questionable decision.
If I remember correctly, first seen on the 1967 Eldorado, Riviera, Toronado and then the 1968 Caprice.
GM got it working right eventually.
I love Gabriel. So humble, and has great taste in cars. I'd love to see his VW collection in person.
Jrod Ohio, You can see Fluffys vw collection on his channel. Check out.
I am 71 and had one, mine was blue with automatic transmission black interior. The gal would snort and laid into a curve.handled well rode good. I gave her routine work outs on i-10 between San Antonio and el paso. Those were fun times
Thank you, Mr. Leno for the history lesson, it is always a pleasure when you have other comedians on your show, Fluffy is one of my favorites to have on your show, you guys have great chemistry. Great car review, great honesty, car auctions can be overwhelming and intimidating, so to hear a man like Fluffy and his honest opinion makes it really special🙏🏽
I love his nickname! Ewe's not fat, ewe's just FLUFFY! Great video guys...
Thank you Jay and Gabe. The red '69 Chevelle SS 396 took me back to my high school days when my good friend Eric got one for a graduation present. His version had the bucket seats and the black vinal top but was every bit as classic as the one featured here. Thanks for the memories and the fond refflections for my dearly departed friend. R I P Eric and keep on rockin' in the next dimensions.
love it, I had a 67 SS 396 Chevelle 4 speed back in 1980 when I was in the USAF had a lot of fun in it but I was only 20 years old sure wish I had it today, stay safe Fluffy and Jay

This made me cry. I miss my 1970. Way to go Gabriel.
My dad had one in the mid 80s. This is the car I learned to work on. We would cruise to junkyards and listen to John cougar
To me, the '69 Chevelle is the most beautiful of all Chevelles. I'm sort of surprised this example has a bench front seat, and not buckets with a console.
Love me a bench seat. Love my girl being able to scoot up next to me.
66, 70 and 71 for me . I don't like the slanted roof line on the side.
Buckets were optional. Same with engine HP. 325, 350, or 375 hp.
@@slickstretch6391 My 69 had a bench seat also... one day I put amoral on it my girl slid over to my side if she moved away i would make a hard right! there's an old joke two folks were riding in a truck ...man on one side lady on the other...lady said remember when we were young you drove with your arm around me? he said I'm not the one that moved!!!
Why are you surprised? Why pay extra for a seat where you can't have your girl at your side?
It amazes me to this day that guys do a full restoration, take it to barrett jackson and didn't bother to sort out the tail light wiring before they take it there. I enjoyed the back up lights on during the whole test drive.
Mr. Leno's humble passion for the automobile is beautiful to see and hear every time. Someone who can truly appreciate everything from small to mind-blowing, the history and artistry and everything. I love this show!
Great video and memories. I got my driver's license the year the SS396 came out. In 1969 it was the most popular of the muscle cars, edging out the Roadrunner and outselling the GTO for the first time. Nice to see Jay and Fluffy enjoying this car.
Beautiful purchase of a true muscle car, love the small block Chevy but the 396 is ultracool.
That 396 sounds AMAZING ❤
Awesome video! The 69 Chevelle SS 396 is one of my favorites. I had 2 of them in the past and got my first one when I was 17 years old back in 1984.
It never gets old @ Jay Leno's Garage !! Thanks
Back in the days you had to buy a cup holder that locked into the window groove of your door
Yeah, that cheap plastic one, LOL memories
Love Jay and Fluffy together!!!!
More than the Chevelle, love Gabriel's spirit...Way to go...Thank you Jay for this ''cheerful" episode...
The good ol' days of cars!💯
Great episode especially the roaming conversation in the car. Thanks Jay
My cousin bought a brand new 1967 Chevelle SS, with a 396 cubic inch, 375 horse, that you had a hard time taking off at a red light without spinning those little six inch wide, blue line tires. When it rained, you really had a difficult time just MOVING from a stop! I believe that by 1969, that 375 horse motor had so many warranty returns that they began to sell them installed with the 325 horse. This car (although a little 'newer'), brought back some memories.
That's TOTAL baloney....the L78 was a rare but available motor thru the 1970 model year, though after '69 it no longer was a '396', even though Chevy retained '396' on Chevelle SS fenders. In '70 thru '72 the former 396 was bored .030" over to produce 402 cubic inches, & subsequently called the "400 Turbo-Jet".
@@M21L35 No baloney! I'm not saying that the 396 was discontinued, only that Chevy produced the lesser horsepower from the 375 as "stock". I don't know if you could get the 375 or not, but the "production model" were no longer 375 horse. I had a good friend who bought the later model (1969), and his was like this one (in the video), because he couldn't get the "375 horse". He took it to all the drag races around our area (I went down the track a couple of times in it.) I remember the Chevrolet people would have their "agents" at all the major drag races (and even some of the smaller ones), and if you brought one of their big boys to the track, the warrant was VOID! My cousin had his back in the shop on a regular basis.
I'm 73 years old and LIVED it.
What a beautiful car!
And Gabriel is always fun to see, he's so good on camera, smart, funny obviously... he did good on this one!
I love this era of Chevelle, such a great looking car. And that 396 sounds fantastic.
Love fluffy, we need to see the other 5 cars Jay 🙏
Nice car Fluff, I watched you buy it on tv and loved your attitude during the auction. Good luck with it brother.
Such a beautiful car and sounds heavenly... and Gabriel is cool as well
Great episode!! Very cool car . 69 and 70 were the best years of the Chevelle SS!!
Hey Jay! That was an excellent episode! I have watched all of your videos at least two times each. This one really stood out. Thanks again for making these! Your friend, mr jommins
A pleasantly (somewhat) off-the-cuff episode. Yes, my childhood nabe had a few of these around the block (among other interesting stuff on wheels), and Fluffy's is a fantastic example. Great stand-up banter between them both as well.
Unlike most other cars, '69 Chevelle steering boxes were 4 turns lock to lock; Most cars are 3. It makes for the smooth steering they're talking about. The downside is trying to correct/countersteer the car when the rear end breaks loose. Sometimes, you literally couldn't spin the wheel back & forth fast enough to keep you out of the ditch. That's what I've heard, anyway..... :) Sparks in Daytona
Two great guys, Jay and Gabriel. My sincere admiration to both.
I love that Jay drives it first. Which is probably better because Jay is more experienced with these older cars. If there was an issue, Jay would notice it and have it towed back to his shop so it wouldn't do any further damage. Glad it turned out to be a good one
That's Exactly what I was thinking Why Jay drove it First...
@@pistolannie6500 Me three. I'm guessing that they now know about the reverse lights being stuck on, and the loose SS386 emblem on the grill...
I bet he had already driven it and his mechanics went over prior. Damn nice car!

I love it when these two guys get together. The way they interact makes it great. Maybe have Mr. Tim Allen back on soon!
You two have great chemistry. Y'all should do a movie together, something with cars obviously, maybe remake Smokey and the Bandit, lol.
I’d watch that!
What a great pair! (Leno and Gabe) - beautiful car and some insight on Barrett Jackson auctions.
I loved the 67, Kid next door had one that ran in the 11s My Camaro SS 396 was only running in the 14s. I had to swap out the stock shifter for a short throw Hurst shifter because second gear was not straight back. There was a little hitch to one side. Loved that Hurst shifter , never missed second again. Bet the throws on this car are long shift.
this is an amazingly perfect purchase, the level of some of the expert collectors and afficionados in the world. fluffy is either a lot more knowledgeable about cars, or he received some of the best advice in the world. nobody gets that lucky. what makes things even worse: it is a perfect match for him! he looks so appropriate behind the wheel, he completes the picture.
I agree Jay, 396 just rolls off the tongue, and just sounds right. And the SS before it tops it off as one of the best names in muscle car history. My current car is a 17' SS Camaro 6 speed.
Crazy experience at the auction!! I had the same recently as my first time and walked away with a 1972 Datsun 510 🤩 lol
Easy to store, good mpg collectible car.
I enjoyed this very much thanks to you two!
It does not matter how fast or powerful a car or bike is, it is how it makes you feel when you drive it. These muscle cars are all theatre and presence, lovely.
Well, it doesn't matter _now._ But it _used to._

Very nice car, Fluffy. The paint , the sound.
Jay is the kind of friend who'll take you for a ride in your own car.
That was a really good show. Gabriel really challenged Jay to keep up with the jokes and the barbs. I saw Gabriel's VWs and that was good too. Theses two are great together. I love the 69 Chevelle. It looks amazing on the road.
Great car Fluffy! Always nice to see great cars happen to great people!
always love the Fluffy episodes! He seems such a enjoyable guy
In my opinion, the styling of the '69 is much nicer than the same generation '70 and later cars. My brother-in-law had a 350 '69 in Chicago and Clevland and the poor thing rusted unbelievably in just 2 or 3 years, but it ran great. I recall clandestinely taking it out for a ride when I was 16 (and it was about 5) and thinking it was very quick.
70-72 are nice but 69 would be my choice.
Beautiful car, Fluff!
Congrats!!

What an awesome car."All original",including the reverse lights that come on just often enough to keep people off your bumper. If that happened in a modern vehicle, the dash would be all lit up and it wouldn't do over 25mph...Would love to see his collection someday.(hint,hint).

Hey Jay, my favorite car in 69' was the 396 Chevelle. Then followed very close by the 69' Mustang Mach 1. I wasn't at driving age in 69' but several years later my first car was a 69 Road Runner. Not sure why I never looked at a 69 Chevelle when ready to buy. I was on a tight budget so my selection was limited.

Brakes are wired to the reverse light portion on the rear lights. Should be lighting up the top half of the taillights. Just FYI Fluffy
Nope: Back drive rod from the base of the column where the switch is to the shift linkage is likely missing.
@@hotpuppy1 It's not all that common to see backup lights stuck on - even back in the day.

This car has the lowest horsepower 396. There were also 350hp and 375hp options. The extra horsepower came from higher compression, different cam, and I think a bigger carburetor.
The 375 hp had a aluminum intake, big Holley carb 11 to 1 compression, large solid lifter cam, also rectangular port heads.
