settlement gets attacked based on how much food and water it produces, and nordhagen produces A LOT of water, so you will get attacked a lot, unless you place a ton of defences down. Usually you need more defence rating than your food and water produce combined.
Rule of thumb I operate by in vanilla is double the combined number. So 32 water and food Id place 64 defenses.

yes, the explosive weapon effect is affected by demolition expert, which if you have max level of demo expert will make it deal 30 explosive damage per shot, or, if you by chance manage to obtain an explosive shotgun, it would deal 240 explosive damage per shot, as every shotgun pellet makes a separate explosion. By the way, same is true for plasma infused, wounding, freezing and irradiated shotguns, fire and poison dont stack so flaming and poisonous shotguns unfortunately don't work in that way. (Wounding effect on an auto weapon or a shotgun in particular is my favorite, it ignores armor and deals bleed damage, which somehow works on all types of enemies, robots, turrets, doesnt matter, bleed stacks and deals damage over time, so if you light up a deathclaw with a few shots from a wounding shotgun, its hp drains in a real statisfying way.)
The next enemy, I will attack with a knife...Mr. Thomas, that deathclaw encounter WAS theatrical! 😂 Salutations and Huzzah!
Thomas ( my Fathers name FYI) your play thought drives me insane. After 4000+ hours in this game I have a system to get thou dungeons like that and you manage to hit all the right buttons eventually but dive me to drink in the mean time. I like the sinister "intermittent single bass note" incidental music at some sites recently. Slightly reminiscent of the bassline in the main theme from The Thing.
At 27:46 you shoot your dog. I couldn't tell if he was already agro'd but everyone else was after. Long after the fact I know but I tend to get immersed and forget it was weeks ago , lol , I try :)
If you harvest all of the glowing fungus you encounter, since it weighs very little, you can use it to craft a variety of aid chems, including RadAway, provided you have leveled up your Chemistry perk. This is another way to save on caps, accumulate points, and any excess RadAway may be sold at a tidy profit. Win win situation! :)

also, giving better weapons and armor to the settlers doesn't reduce the risk of raids, but it obviously helps the settlers defend themselves

Strong is great with a minigun and sledge backup.
Try combining the sacrifical blade's mod from under Dunwich Borers with a legendary machete.
Cat happyness is divided by settlers. So you need 10 cats wi ten settlers to make everyone +1 happyness.
It matters. Your starting into endgame stuff. Id catch up the other two factions till they say you have to make a choice. Then maneuver your options as best you can.
You should check out L.E.O. (Legendary Effects Overhaul). Very good mod and you can make FO4 have 76 loot style.
The 'edge of the glowing sea' is a quest point for the BoS. I always assumed they forgot to rename/work it.
AoE damage damages everyone around the target like settlers. They dont like it.
You moved the naked guy from the scavenger station to the artillery.
There is a mod that moves enemy spawn points outside the settlement. So walls can work :P

In survival you can fill any empty bottle, not just beer. It's best to pick all empyt ones in Vault 111 and fill them up in Vault first thing because the water there is clean and safe to drink

For the mysterious signal bug go to harbourmaster hotel and in one of the rooms ( i think it's the left room with wooden door) you will go to nwxt stage of the Quest and you don't have to listen to the signal
A couple of thoughts on picking a faction to build the Device. Both the brotherhood and the railroad have special missions for you to do, the railroad wanting you to work within the Institute to take them down from within. The Brotherhood questline CANNOT progress ay further until after you visit the institute. Very soon you will come to a point where you will have to decide which factions will become enemies. IF you wat to maximize your options go with the Minutemen.
But, but, Virgil; I DO SO enjoy liberating toasters!
the only bad thing about viable samples and technical documents is that they dont stop spawning even if you go against the brotherhood, so on my main institute save i have around 700 documents and a similar amount of samples just sitting around in my inventory without me being able to do anything with them.
I was recently doing the mysterious signal mission. It's bugged. Just travel and enter the harbor master hotel to continue the All Hallows Eve quest

oh yeah, if you upgrade demo expert for more explosive damage, those explosions will deal more to you as well, so be even more careful.
I hate it when my settlers die during an attack, and reload (if the game hasn't deleted my save) as many times as it takes to repeat the battle and keep everyone alive. One time it was Maisie the cat at Abernathy Farm. I was furious, and needless to say, reloaded. That was many moons ago; Maisie is still alive and well. :) Am I a control freak? NOT!! Well, maybe...

The actual edge of the glowing sea covers quite a large area, so I don't get it either, that it can only be "discovered" at one small point on the map. Does anyone have any info on this subject?
