IS IT REALLY THE WORSE...REMEMBER GREENBAY!! AARON RODGERS CONTRACT 4 YEARS!! DOESN'T HAVE ANY WEAPONS, WAS M.V.P PIROR YEAR!! JUST NEEDED BETTER WRS AND THEN THEY TRADE UP!!!!!! IN THE FIRST ROUND!!!! FOR A QB!!!! JORDAN UNLOVED
... It is not a bad pick. They need a QB of the future... They Loved penix. Kirk Cousins is essentially trash.... he is an older version of Dak Prescott. Great in the regular season total GARBAGE in the post season. Cousins is essentially on a 2 year deal which give Penix 2 years to sit and learn which is apparently a great thing looking at Mahomes and Love. So yea... This was a great pick and your take is trash on this one.
Nice fade. 👍
I was watching Tom Grossi's every fans draft reaction and he spent half the video just shitting on the Falcons. The funniest part was the Packers fan saying "Atlanta you're doing it wrong."😂
😂
Tom grossi > ESPN Pat
Possi grossi!
I mean it’s true tho. They are doing it wrong.
And the season hasn't started yet. A lot of people just need something to run their mouth about.
potentially tampering for Kirk Cousins just to draft his replacement eighth overall is crazy ngl
Is replacement is an ancient being as well
Imagine Kirk just snitches on em just as a fuck you.
They drafted Penix cause they might lose there 1st for next year by tampering for cousins
Falcons gonna Falcon.
@@Douchecanoe42069then pick the year after. Also the qb class isn’t as good so you’ll be able to pick one in the 2nd round
As a falcons fan, I was suprised for exactly 0.000000561233 of a second before I remembered oh yea were the God damn falcons 😂
😂😂😂
I was legit talking with my brother about this because we both are falcons fans and I was like we are allergic to drafting defensive players in the first round
Literally lol we could have had ANY defensive player
Same trying to find a way to cope with their bad decisions 😂 as long as they win I won’t care though tired of losing seasons
@@ekalB210 Dallas Turner would have been a steal. I think he will be a beast in this league. I bet Viking fans are happy at grabbing him at #17.
I could see them using him as trade capital, but I think essentially their plan is 2 years with Kirk and then move on to Penix, especially after looking at how Kirk's contract is structured. Sucks for Kirk and his family to be uprooted thinking they would be there at least 4 years and then learning it wil probably only be 2 years. It's a business, but this has obviously been in the works for a while. Their excuse for not telling Kirk was it was a sensitive issue and they didn't want other teams finding out. In other words, they are telling Kirk they don't trust him. Hell of a way to start a relationship.
I’d never trust that gm again I’d ask for a trade I’d never play for a man I can’t trust
Whose gonna be traded? Kirk? Idk who would trade for a 35 year old qb coming off a bad injury
He played great last year up until then. @@trentwise3762
@@trentwise3762 IF anyone was traded, it would be Penix
@marcgarrett5427 I said the same thing.. they can trade him for 2 WRs
The General manager is stupid enough for not telling Kirk cousins 7:39
Same GM that traded up for trubisky 😂🤣

So the Falcons use a top 10 pick on a player that won't even see the field for probably the next 2 years? Smh. That GM needs to fire himself
From what I saw Penix was projected to the 2nd round. ATL might have gotten him for cheaper, filled a position of greater need in round 1, and saved themselves a bit of grief in the process.
@@twogruden9943 they still won’t get it
I can’t believe they did this. Arthur blank is probably super pissed . Dallas turner was teed up for this pick and now he is gonna have 12 sacks next year while we struggle to have a guy with half that
All of you are wrong. Blank approved of this and us falcons fans definitely didn’t approve
You don’t draft a qb without the owner knowing
Not saying penix was a bad pick but totally agree def not the best pick ... I really wanted dallas turner.... look at what will Anderson did for Houston last year... if turner ends up as the DROY in Minnesota I will be pissed
Yeah. Karma for not picking Belichick. Oh well.
I guess the Falcons are trying to emulate the Packers, 49ers, Patriots and other teams. Pick a QB to develop planning for the next 2 or 3 years.
I agree a team should focus all their energy when in their window to win. You shouldn't sell the farm but definitely everything should go towards improving the team now. I understand the criticism but it is the reality that many teams do this now.
I like Penix in ATL a lot but this was the most Franchise Mode BS I've ever seen 😂😂😂😂
Cousins: “It’s not about the money, it’s about what the money represents.”
ATL: “It’s not about who the first round pick is, it’s what the pick represents.”
And it's still stupid 😂😂😂
Will laugh my a** off if Atlanta gets the 3rd seed overall ... Just play the damn game!
Kirk had it made in MIN. When your priority is "what the money represents", you end up at a dysfunctional poverty franchise like ATL
I will laugh harder if he says fu ....I retire !!
@@gary50900 just take his 100 guaranteed mill and walk away 😂
It's a business but transparency with your players sends a strong signal to potential free agents. Keeping Kirk in the dark that this even could be a possibilty indicates a lack of integrity in managment THAT FREE AGENTS WILL NOTICE
Not taking Dallas Turner is haunting. But hey maybe MPJ learns under Kirk and becomes our elite franchise guy.
As a Vikings fan, I thank the Falcons for not taking Dallas.
@@thegreywardenherald8923 You’re welcome 😔
Skol
@@thegreywardenherald8923as a non Vikings fan, you are going to regret not getting Penix
@@jovaughnthompson354It was out of the Vikings control anyway. Penix was gone when the Vikings had their 1st pick. The Falcons have been gift wrapping presents for the Vikings. They took Cousins off of the Vikings hands. Cousins only won 1 playoff game for the Vikings while commanding huge money. In taking Penix, they gifted the Vikings J.J. McCarthy and then eventually Dallas Turner. Falcons should have selected Turner, but they gifted him also to the Vikings 😂😂😂
Kirk was probably cussing out Fontenot and Morris on the phone, that is why it was a private phone call lol.
Kirk don't cuss, but I bet he said, gosh darn it, golly, gee whiz, dang it😂😂
@@axman300Probably a few "Fiddle Sticks!!!!" Thrown in there 😊
And, Arthur Blank stared blankly at his GM…
This is why bad teams get worse .. having this much money tied up at QB is insane
Watching the draft with buddies and I say "falcons probably gonna get wr" friend says "it's a qb" we all dumbfounded and he continues "its the falcons they are stupid" 😂😂😂😂
This is great for Saints.
Why?
@Gman333gmf is gunna be 28 when he finally plays
Aren't yall still paying Taysom Shill starter money? Lmao
@Gman333g feels good knowing the Brees' era is finally over.
If 28-3 was a draft pick. Great laughs all around the league
They could have gotten a quality defense player that would have made an instant impact. Dallas Turner is probably the guy they should have picked. This has to be the most idiotic pick ever. Not because of drafting a QB. But drafting a QB after giving a veteran QB a huge contract.
This is insane. That GM should be fired regardless if Cousins stays healthy or not.
@Gman333g Falcons lack at defense.
Who are you trying to fool?
@Gman333g they weren't all that good on rush defense. A Dallas Turner could have boosted them higher and become more of a threat to opposing offenses. Now they will just remain mediocre or worse.
@@PaulinaVega-fi6poevery other draft pick was for defense what are you talking about?
@Gman333g The Falcons were weak in several spots. Evidently, nobody knew GM was the one they should have filled before the draft
This was a true shocker!
Love your video, Mike, and what were the Falcons were thinking
The Joker aka Arthur Blank played Kirk Cousins 0:58
As a life long Falcons fan, nothing surprises me anymore from the leadership at the Falcons. It’s like they’ll do anything to guarantee a bad season. Those folks in the front office couldn’t find their ass with a hat. Totally fed up.
the way they answered "that was a PRIvATe phone call" so quickly had me dying. We gonna suck for the next 3 years blud
Falcons franchise has CTE
This pick doomed the Raiders to the QB purgatory. 🤣
They'll end up trading one of them 😂
Pittsburgh will take them. They love all the leftovers 😂
Lmao😂
And Cousins has a NTC 🤣
To who though? Penix sure, he could get traded. Idk who would trade for Kirk being so old and with his recent injury
I love Raheem Morris from back when he was interim head coach in Tampa. He got the most out of a ragged given up roster and almost got us into the playoffs. I think 10-6. The league screwed him on a bad call against the lions. Offensive PI on a touchdown catch. The league later changed that call during the next week but our season was over and he left. Coaches like him and Tomlin are the dungy coaching tree. Trust in it. They are solid people and coaches. Tampa loved Ra.
5:22 - If he's going to be a star, draft him and spend $100m on premier talent in free agency. If he's not, spend $100M on Kirk Cousins and use the draft to get a young baller. But don't do both.
WHAT...THE...FUCK
As a Falcons fan I just want to curl up n die. I feel bad for the players giving all n the fans deserve more. The incompetence of this franchise is staggering. Cousins didn't get a call? How about the f'n owner who has given an open checkbook for a winning team for decades and was blind sided by the pick? Shit...let's double down and draft another QB tonight 🥸
This is one of those cases where the Falcons’ GM thinks he’s smarter than everyone else and he’s going to be a genius rebel. That kind of thinking always gets you fired. 😂
It’s easy to say that nothing has gone right for this franchise since they grabbed that 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl a few years back, but the truth is very little had gone right for the Falcons before that game, as well.
But this has effectively been a full circle that started when Raheem Morris interviewed to be Dan Quinn’s replacement and was determined not to have been good enough for the job at that time, only to be given the job the next time he interviewed after the guy who beat him out was fired before the sun could even hit the ground for the first day of Offseason 2024.
And somehow it’s only gotten worse since then.
You CONSTANTLY HEAR ABOUT "TRUST" in NFL...Falcons just showed Cousins "Don't trust us"
Penix turning 24. Hes going to be like 25-26 before he even gets a start 😂😂😂
Same age as JORDAN 💕
Yall legit slow 😂😂
You literally explained my thinking exactly
Penix is gonna be great
If he only has to wait 2 seasons or less to start and he turns out to be a franchise QB it won't be so bad.
This is ridiculous. Blank should fire the GM and anyone who had a decision in this pick. Atlanta had so much potential. I feel for the fans.
Penix has a crazy accurate deep ball, which will be nice in the NFL. But yeah, this pick is definitely bizarre on so many levels.
The falcons really needed pass rushers also.
This makes so much sense to me
A QB controversy without snapping a ball. Lol
The entire football world knows its not about MPJ he's great. Its the situation the Falcons have brought upon him and themselves.
I hate it when teams get docked draft picks but the Falcons deserve to lose a 1st rounder for tampering for making such a dumb pick.
As a falcons fan I think this pic is bat shit crazy, you need an edge rusher in this draft
Thank you Atlanta for that pick and allowing us to pick Rome 😂🐻⬇️
Penix Jr. will ask for a trade now once he starts sitting on bench next season why would he want to play for the Falcons after seeing what they done to Cousins? Falcons won't keep Penix Jr. for more than a year they showed their true colors.
Cousins will never see the end of his contract. Another concussion or two or major injury and he's out. He's 36 for crying out loud.
Then that contract was TERRIBLE
The thing is they got them signed for the next two or three years which means they should be trying to win now. And they just wasted a top 10 pick on another quarterback that probably won't even see the field for the next 2 years. They should have got a defensive end, Edge rusher that could start on day one and make an impact and help the team right now because they made some decent moves in the offseason and it look like they were trying to compete for this next two or three year run.. I just think it's a bad move to use a number eight overall pick on a player that won't even see the field for the next few years. They should have got of player that's going to contribute now
I don’t think he’s gonna be ready week 1
He'll see the $100mil though
Penix is also injury prone. I could see ATL needing another QB in a couple years and going through this all over again. Should've drafted an elite tackle or such to keep their QB upright.
This is wild 😂😂😂
I don’t think it’s bad because Penix is obviously the future for the falcons and he can learn behind a vet like Cousins
he is gonna be 28 years old when kirks contract runs out, thats way too old to be starting your "starter" career
@@ievntu4239 He would actually be 29 by the time he starts playing after Kirk's contract runs out. Even worse lol
If that was the goal, they should’ve drafted McCarthy
I agree with your assessment but if he just sits 2yrs he’ll still be 26 and unproven. Cousins could stay all 4yrs then Penix is 28 and that’s a tremendous waste!!!
They should have drafted my nephew because he is only 9 and will be of age when Cousins contract ends😂😂
What you have been seeing the past few years, is the NFL slowly adopting the MLB and NBA formula. The owners aren't poor and they're making moves that don't make sense to people right now, but will in a couple of years. Experts and wannabe experts are shocked because they're haven't been paying attention to the changing landscape.
I have seen quite a few comments from Falcons fans about the following: 1) "Penix will benefit from Kirk Cousins as a mentor". Hmm, I'm a Vikings fan and I can say for a fact that Kirk feels threatened by any QB that might take his job. He goes out of his way to not provide any advice. 2) The Falcons can just trade Cousins midseason or after the 2024 season. Hmm, Kirk has a no trade clause and he's not going to uproot his family and move to another city. Also what team needs a QB so bad that they will take on his contract? That said if Cousins goes down with a serious injury this year then the Falcons will look like geniuses.
Could you do a video where you grade first round picks
I just went from being a Falcons fan to a Chargers fan. They got the right philosophy and pick the right players. Falcons either draft the wrong player at the right position or the right player at the wrong position (Bad Timing and horrible allocation of resources) Things just went from bad to worse in the ATL
PLEASE MAKE A VID OVER THE GUARDIAN CAP SITUATION
Not signing Bill was their biggest mistake
Cousins is probably pissed
Kirk Cousins COULD be the Falcons' RUSSELL WILSON!!
At least they didnt TRADE for him
Matthew Stafford...after being on a crappy team, went to the Rams and won a Super Bowl. Kirk was on crappy Washington team, then a Vikings team with a defense that was 13th, 18th, 27th, 30th 31st, and 31st.
I agree 💯
I'm glad Falcons went full potatoe and passed on Dallas Turner. 😂😂😂
As a Dolphins fan i envy the Falcons QB room, you had to pay $50m per year to lure a great vet in Cousins but anything less than that and he wouldn't have signed. There is no better situation for Penix Jnr. than to watch and learn how a true pro like Cousins prepares and be ready for when he has to go in. After the number of injuries that happened to starting QB's last season all the comments about Penix Jnr sitting for at least 2 years seems stupid to me,the odds are he starts multible games this season. The flipside is the Dolphins who have Tua,a QB who has never beaten a legit team from December on and has been given a saloon ride in the QB room with no competition since they dumped Ryan Fitzpatrick who was always better than him.
Well, I'm a Pats fan and this make sense.
If Cousins will bring what the Falcons expect him to bring, they won't pick in the top 20 the upcoming 4 years. Then Cousins is out, and they will start to look for an early pick, since they expectedly will play bad after Cousins for at least a season. How do you know that you will strike with that pick? They were lucky with the transition from Vick to Ryan, but not that much after Ryan. Now they try to correct the mistake.
Just look at my Patriots after Brady. And I'm not sure that Maye will be the long term answer at all. He would need 2-3 year on the bench, but behind who? The Falcons tackled this issue.
Falcons need to fire Terry at the end of next football year.
Are you doing a stream tonight
Atlanta, gotta love it.
You just trade for a massively expensive experienced QB.
You just use your 1st high impact 1st Round Draft Pick Selection to get a TOP 10 player, and its a QB for goodness sakes.
Cousins has a few years left on his gun belt to be your STARTER.
You just Drafted a young fella with hopes to be a STARTER more sooner than later.
Your Cap Space takes a whack just on hiring on Cousins. Then this guy is gunna sit maybe his first contract and then demand, a massive QB contract and by then maybe Cousins will be too long in the tooth and expendable.
In the meantime, you are tying up huge cash in Cap Space on two QB's. One, as a Backup for at least 4 years. Money that could have been spent on peripheral players to protect that STARTER QB.
Lord have mercy, did Atlanta screw up.
Could you do the video on the Vikings chess moves to show the opposite side of the Falcons screwing themselves?
W mike man fr working harder then other youtubers who do the same content fr
If their plan was to draft, Michael Penix the entire time… then why the hell did they even bother signing Kirk cousins? You could’ve gotten another veteran for significantly cheaper to play as a bridge quarterback. Like, they could’ve just went and grabbed Gardner Minshew before he signed with the Raiders. He would’ve been a perfectly cheap option that would make a perfect bridge quarterback. He plays for maybe one year and then you start Penix afterwards. But instead now you’re locked into a $180 million contract ($100 million guaranteed) for four years.
Right they basically paid 180 million for a locker room presence. It’s a good pick but sheesh why bother with cousins before hand like that. Especially on the package deal the Steelers got for russ n fields.
Like the old song from C&C Music Factory goes...."Things That Make You Go Hmmmmm"
People are saying it is dumb, but it is smart. You get a first rounder to sit and learn the pro way and be ready by year two/three. Second, with Cousins, you are not getting an opportunity to pick that high. The world is just so used to instant gratification.
My guess 1. Penix is cover loses if 2. Kirk Cousins to suspension for couple game and Falcon possible fine tampering investigation and long prep future QB owners wanted via Roger’s via Love and Farve via Roger’s and Alex Smith via Patrick Mahomes
In the previous tampering cases where action was taken, the GM, owner and /or coach contacted the player about a new contract. That didn’t happen in this case. Kirk didn’t talk to the GM, owner OR the head coach either. He is rehabbing an injury an injury and talked to the head athletic trainer. And of the teams that were penalized…the player was not dealing with an injury.
None of one of what happened with Kirk / Falcons rises to the level of tampering that the other teams were penalized for. In only the most serious case, the Dolphins lost their first rounder. And in none of other tampering cases that were FAR more serious, no players were suspended.
they couldve traded back and still got Penix
KC is a 36 year old QB who is coming off of a Achilles tendon injury. Why is anyone questioning why they drafted an QB. The only thing the Falcons owe Kirk Cousins is his 50 million a year.
Couldn’t agree more
I guarantee you, Penix does not look at this as a dream situation, he doesn’t want to sit there on the bench four years. Who the hell wants to sit on the bench.
I’m no Falcon’s fan but I’ve been doing this since the 80’s as a child with my dad who has a sports pedigree as a player, so it’s in me and you don’t pass on top QB’s period. And I know nobody believes Cousins is him not even the Falcon’s now that’s simple.😂😂
Only explanation is that he could be trade bait at some future point, if he shows he can play.
Or maybe they could convert him into a receiver like the Steelers did with Kordell Stewart.
Other than those two options, it’s dumb!
If cousins does well they could trade Penix within these next years for players and draft positions in the future like the bears💯
Drafting the QB for Atlanta makes total since if you believe cousins will be successful... getting lucky and getting QB talent at a later pick is a real tool of the dices. Especially when you have a chance to get a guy this high and can groom him for 2 or 3 seasons to get him ready to start one day. Far too often teams throw QB's into the fire too soon.
THE ATLANTA FALCONS ARE A HORRIFIC MISTAKE 🤣🤣🤣
The pick wasn’t baffling. What was baffling is the contract the Falcons offered Cousins. It’s all gonna make sense when the Seahawks and Falcons eventually play. Byron Murphy II, who the Falcons should’ve selected, is gonna lay Cousins out. In steps Penix Jr, and the rest is history.
Sit behind Cousins while they push for a super bowl, develop a winning culture around the rookie qb and put him in at the right time, I love the pick.
Adding Cousins was a HUGE mistake and Cousins with his ONE playoff wins in 9 years will not be the solution for ATL. Penix Jr. MAY be a solution and since QB is the most important position, and he was available...perhaps...ATL realized that they couldn't pass up the opportunity to have an above average QB over the BAD signing of mediocre QB, who puts his DEF in bad situations and employs the old Big-8 offense of numerous possessions leading to 55-50 games....due to inefficiency of the passing game. Even the best DEF will suck when they need to hold the other teams for 10+ possessions at disadvantageous field possessions....Don't compare Cousins to Rodgers or other real good QBs.....Cousins is just a bit above QBs like Sam Howell.
Falcons don’t want to be like the Steelers getting stuck with an older, injured and bad shape quarterback. Have to get a good quarterback when they could.
You know you wanted the cowboys to take him 😂 the future is bright in ATL
Penix wants to play not ride the bench.
If Kirk's achilles isn't healing that's one thing but they are going to have two issues and neither are good.
1. As soon as Kirk throws a couple INT's the crowd is going to start screaming for Penix. Or you have factions within the team that want Kirk then others that want Penix and it divided your team.
2. Kirk wins just enough that you waste a bunch of Penix's rookie contract and he just basically rots on the bench and for 4 years you're in the high teens to low 20's limbo in draft position.
This is normal. Every team did this in the 80s and 90s. You always wanted the future quarterback so quarterbacks were always getting drafted whether a team had one or not. How long did Aaron Rodgers sit on the bench hello.
This was just too make people forget about the fact they were conspiring with Cousins before they were allowed. Worst case they lose first round pick next year so they picked Penix now.
The only thing that is a mistake is paying cousins 180 million dollars. Pendix Jr is a phenomenal player
If Penix stays healthy, he could turn into a solid QB in the league. But I agree that picking a QB at 8 might have been the wrong decision... but who am I? Not an NFL scout, coach, or GM 😂
Coming from a falcons fan, penix is a great player nothing against him but there are so many defensive holes we coulda filled. But we all know the falcons don’t take defensive talent in the first round, we wait for mid players
This will either be the best decision the falcons have ever made or the worst. If Penix isn’t the QB they think he can be this will set the falcons franchise back for years.
Atlanta did the absolutely right thing. Panic sits for a couple of years, learns, takes over successfully.
I don't how people don't understand that a qb like Penix Jr don't come around that often. The falcons paid the average cost of what it takes to compete with everyone in that conference, In Kirk cousins they know if cousins gets hurt againe or doesn't come back the same player he was lastyear they had to take M.P..jr to assure if they have a franchise qb they will always stay competetive.
Incase cousins gets hurt and cant compete they have penix to fill in the slot ...why they paid cousins so much ? Pure stupidity 🤣😂
Another illustration of the falcons front office brilliance
As a falcons who watches every game since I was 8 I knew they would find a way to mess but never this bad 😢
Maybe if they picked up Bill he wouldn’t have made this decision
Can someone with a lot more knowledge of football than me explain .
1 Why a first round qb pick was bad for them ?
2 why would Cousins need to know ?? (The man us getting paid either way )?
I'm legitimately not trying to be a smartass or even call anyone out.
The way I see (Falcons thinking)
They draft this kid, have him watch Cousins, maybe even play him some.
In a couple seasons they hopefully have an excellent backup and future franchise QB.
When Cousins was first signed with Atlanta the 'pro' talking heads all seemed to say, "this gets them in the playoffs, but can Cousins take them all the way," with the resounding feeling being that, no, Cousins does what Cousins does, sits in the pocket until he throws or the pocket collapses.
I for one do not believe Cousins is making it through 64 starts, and somewhere between zero and sixteen playoff games without an injury. And I think if we read between the lines, Arthur Blank ain't giving Cousins more than two years to get us to a Superbowl. Blank ain't getting any younger.
As a Falcons fan I can say that I feel ok about Cousins, but not great. Penix, if he is anything like they think he's going to be, I'm all for it. I was content with the pick, can't wait to see the guy take his first snaps when Cousins gets hurt or can't make a start. Plenty of defensive and offensive options to choose from during the rest of the draft. We'll be alright.
Kurt might not fully recover from his injury.
Agreed.
As a Colts fan, I’d like to say thank you. You may be the reason why the colts got 1st overall pick for defense.
