Leo is the G.O.A.T... I've been saying this for almost 10 years now. He did Titanic as a kid, playing the role of the hopeless romantic. He does shutter Island, a creepy, slow burner. Then inception, a psychological action thriller. Django, Gatsby, the revenant... He made all of the movies he was in great and managed to not get tied down to a particular role.

Let me ask a simple question to those comparing Leo to other GREAT actors like DeNiro or Pacino. We’ve seen other actors do impressions of both of them and some are good at them too. But I’ve never seen someone do an impression (I might be wrong) of Leo. Why? Because he’s acting tendencies are always different depending on the role. We all know DeNiro will smirk no matter what the role asks, Pacino will yell but Leo is on a different level. Just my opinion.

@@treenincove1726 Daniel Day Lewis was playing the dominant role. Leo was playing a passive role as was needed. Leos character is the little pup and Daniel's is the junk yard dog. Day lewis has make up and a handlebar moustache. He has big scenes such as when he is using the knife to show leo how to kill a man, being covered in the Amwrican flag, intoning how he runs the 5 points as the city is shown superimposed on his hand, etc. When hes off screen the other characters are discussing the Butcher in hushed and awed tones. By contrast Leo is seen vunrable, chasing the love intrest, grieving over his fathers death, being confused over his love hate relachinship with his new father figure in the Butcher. Its no surprise that Daniel Day Lewis comes across as better. But I doubt that makes him the better actor. Its simply in the script, directing, and story.

His performance was so incredible in that film, I pause the movie just to look him up. You know why? It's because he out performed every single actor in that movie, including John C Reilly, Cameron Diaz, and Leonardo DiCaprio. He embarrassed EVERYONE, not just Leo. There was something about his performance that stuck out to me because it was like he wasn't acting at all, which I found out he wasn't. Everyone else was acting except him. True story. I was at a business conference with 10,000 people in the audience and I was one of the guest speakers and shared the back stage with a number of other speakers in sort of a "waiting room" before going on stage.
The couple before me started their talk, but they split it into two segments. The husband was to do his segment first and his wife second.
So she came off stage still miked-up and never switched off. She went to the toilet and let's just say she farted her way to heaven and back with that big sigh of relief at the end.
All 10,000 people heard it and she still had to come back on stage to give her talk. Between the husband and the audience they agreed not to tell her so she could come and deliver her talk without embarrassment.
I think he only told her about it about ten years later 😂

To play and act someone else for 2 hrs and make that viewer forget who you really are and be submerged in the story and character is the reason some actors don’t take any roll thrown at them

I worked as a 1st unit and Rigging Grip on "Django Unchained" for a few months when they were shooting down here around New Orleans. I have to agree with Ethan, who I did see on location visiting Leo at least twice, that Leo is the GOAT when it comes to acting. I watched him rehearse his part (Calvin Candy) and the part of his character's sister (Lara) because she wasn't on set yet. He acted just like an Antebellum lady with his voice and his physical appearance, and he did it in all seriousness, and without flubbing any lines.
I also saw him spin around and start talking with all of the extras that were in a certain scene with him as soon as "cut" was yelled by the 1st AD. He spoke to those extras as if they were his acting peers without the slightest bit of arrogance or pretension towards them. Btw, I worked on more than thirty motion pictures with actors including John Malkovich, Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor, and Diane Lane to name a few. I have seen great actors at work, and Leo is the best all-around actor that I personally saw.
One more thing, I have also heard the story about the "hot mic" incident with Sly Stallone. It was apparently on channel 1 which is the most important and most listened to channel on the radio system for motion pictures, and TV productions. The mic was stuck open, and everyone that tuned to channel 1 heard what appeared to be a sexual act being "performed" on Sly, while he gave very specific instructions on how he wanted it done...

I’ve seen a lot of people give the wrong criticism to Leonardo DiCaprio! People who say he’s overrated and he doesn’t deserve his success. Literally just because you didn’t feel the emotion he put in his characters! Not liking his acting is completely fine and normal. But you don’t have the right to say why do people want to work with Leo? Why do directors like Quentin Tarantino, and Martin Scorsese, and Christopher Nolan want to work with him? I don’t see the value in Leo?
If you’re someone who’s just a normal person choosing what they like or don’t like about an actor! Then you’re not someone who judges who the directors want to hirer in their films.. it’s the directors job to hire the right people for their movies. I’ve seen people say people only want Leonardo DiCaprio in their movies just to make more of a buck for their movies! You’re not just insulting the actor Leo. But you’re also insulting the directors by thinking that you believe they’re stealing people who need to be in the actual movie, and instead hiring the right guy for the right job for this new movie!!! they’re just going to put Leo in the movie just to make the movie more markable. LIKE DUDE WHAT THE HELL??! Directors aren’t just going to choose actors for the sake of choosing them. If Leo DiCaprio is not needed in a movie don’t put him in the movie!
It’s the directors job to see the value in an actor so they can use them often in the future. Just because you’re someone who never saw the value of Leo’s acting career! Doesn’t give you the right to say he doesn’t deserve his success, because YOU didn’t see the greatness of his career. He’s worked in this movie industry almost 30 years! That’s more than enough time to prove his worth.

But Denzel should definitely be considered. He had a run from the early 90s to the mid 2000s that was extraordinary.
And I believe if he had more opportunities he was get the recognition. But this is one of those times where race may have hindered that a bit.
