As a recently retired organic farmer I can honestly say you are only barely scratching the surface of this subject. We were treated as the enemy and constantly paid higher fees (10x) . During the organic salad contamination incident the corporate guys were allowed to study their own problem and blamed it on us small farms. Regulatory hammers come down and we are driven from market share. During the federal organic certification meetings we were lied to and a couple of years later the corporate organic processed food hit the market. Covid took our restaurant markets and decimated our local farmers markets. Their aggression is somewhat passive but constant. Corruption is rampant.

Organic is essentially the Kneejerk reaction and up there with PETA/Vegan-Nazi's for lack of consideration of all of the facts.

YEARS ago, like 15 years ago, I bought some Grassland Beef online. That was the company name btw. A guy at my gym told me about it. So instead of buying gear, I got some grass fed beef lol. It was amazing. The thing that sealed it for me was when my cat jumped on a little hunk of the ground beef that had spilled out of the pan. She jumped on like a lion on a gazelle and darted away with it. I had never seen her doing anything like it with any other food, cat treats included! I kinda forgot about it. My dog my cat and it’s two kittens we’re just sitting at my feet the kittens were meowing so much because I gave them a little bit of raw beef when I was making my patties the other day. I felt bad because I had already packaged it and put it in the fridge but I’ll tell you what my animals never act that way for any kind of cat treat in a bag any kind of dog food anything that meat raw meat had them going wild. When I adopted a plant based diet about ten years ago, my laundry list of health issues were all cited. I do it correctly. Most of the time, I avoid excessively processed food and consume only whole plant based foods. At the same time, I feed my dog a balanced (mostly) raw meat diet. I also love and respect hunters, local farmers, and fishermen. People I know who eat whole food (including animal products) plant based diets are extremely healthy too. I also know plant based and animal product consuming people who eat way too much, consume lots of processed food, have alcohol problems, and barely move their bodies. They are very unhealthy. In general, eating preferably high quality, whole food plant based diets (with animal products or not) are probably the most healthy people on the planet. I hate to see people bashing one “side” or the other. It’s up to each of us to eat and live in a way that makes us look and feel optimal. I respect everyone’s choices and advocate for eating as balanced as possible and exercising consistently.

This is so interesting. I'm 31 years old and have really come to a point in my life where nothing makes me feel joy. Nothing intrigues me. I have felt this way for so long, (which I have for years) and because of this I can find myself being a consumer, spending money on things I can't afford when I have very little money and even debt. I've searched for peace and health through sex, exercise, food, consumerism and even obsessing over home decor and skin care which doesn't make me fulfilled. I have this passion for health, believe consuming meat, fruit, and minimal veggies is optimal for human health but the environment and society we live in makes it damn near impossible to break free of food addiction. I feel trapped. I know there is more to life then feeling the way I do. I think maybe it would be a great idea to seek other people who share my beliefs so I have a support system to get me healthy again. I am height/weight proportionate, have really dark circles around my eyes, have chronic inflamed eyes and some mild auto-immune issues over the years. There's even more symptoms I could go over but would rather not share. I always tell my family and friends that I need to go to Thailand and do a 7 day coconut water fast, start fresh, eat only fruit and meat and organs going forward and I think I know what I need.. But I'm overwhelmed with some debt. I know CZcams isn't a personal diary, so whoever reads this thanks for listening. I guess what i'm trying to also say is that these podcasts intrigue me. I feel connected and in my element listening to these topics. They're true to my heart. Thanks for what you do Joe.

Some South African scientist demonstrated that having groups of cattle graze in areas and then move onto the next are great at reversing desertification in Africa because they eat the dead grass off and fertilize new growth. The lack of grazing cattle caused the grass to die off and strangle out new growth. At first he thought the elephants were causing desertification by packing down the soil and he had 300,000 killed. When you know how much work goes into a bird, buying a bird for $10 is a miracle. Its provided by industrial farming which is also not humane to the animals. Vegans still can eat all the unhealthy processed foods and oils including those Beyond Burgers. I'm not trying to save the world...just trying to add a few extra months are years onto my life. My husband, a few friends and several family made the switch. Unnecessary weight gone (literally down to high school weight), heart meds/disease gone, RA pain almost non existent, less migraines and no more back pain are just a few of the results from my little circle. We are all 50's through 70 's and healthier now than ever. . Look at obesity in US. Problem is the portions. Way back before the obesity crisis on your plate was just a small portion of meat. The portions have changed and are now huge which I think is not good for anyone. I like that they have vegan choices in schools, but it shouldn't be the only choice. Food is a touchy subject...just like politics.

I've been selling meat at the retail level for over 40 years. Used to come in front quarters and hindquarters on the hook and dry aging it brought out the flavor held in the marbling. Now beef comes pre-cut, pre-boxed much larger and leaner having little or no flavor. I see chickens with legs and breasts like a turkeys. Quality went down, price went up and we're left to deal with growth hormones.

I have ulcerative colitis, which was very severe about 7yrs ago. I had been following the advice of several doctors and not eating red meat, and no dairy. I didn't feel better, and had dropped down to 90lbs (I'm 5'9")! One day I had a conversation with a gentleman with MS who owned a health store. He recommended that I stay away from poultry all-together, consume real cheese, organic whole milk, and grass-fed grade A beef--along with organic produce. I decided to give it a shot, and within weeks I was feeling great and was putting on weight (mostly muscle!). Here I am 7 years later, following the same diet, eating high quality beef 5 days a week, and I have a healthy weight, under 8% body fat, and my energy levels are through the roof. I think it has a lot to do with quality. Zero processed foods, no microwave, no fast food, no soda or added sugar. I appreciate conversations on this topic, as I think diet is often an afterthought, when in reality, it is the most important thing for good health---along with stress!!

However, the vast majority of our meat supply comes from industrial meat, of which NONE of this applies, especially the argument about keeping ecosystems in check. The people who raise the animals are forced to sign on as "contractors" with the handful of distributors for their form of meat, and get paid disgracefully little as a portion of the end value in most cases. I started eating strict vegan and I cured a ton of health problems. I could gradually start exercising gently without ending up in bed for 5 days with flu symptoms. I had a normal period for the first time in my adult life. I started doing Insanity, the hardest home workout program I could find, and I had to stop after a month (looking like a beast by that time) because I found out I was finally pregnant after 4 years of serious reproductive health issues. My husband started eating the same as me, and he lost 15kg in 14 days, built so much muscle, his skin improved, his sleep and anxiety improved. But take note: we NEVER ate meat substitutes, we ate real foods in the most whole state we could manage. I would never touch the Gates frankenmeats. We ate vegetables, salad greens, tons of fruit, whole grains (a literal ton of pasta and rice) potatoes, sweet potatoes, nuts, seeds, legumes, herbs and spices. Real foods that God made, not fake rubbish that evil men made in a factory. If we eat meat we will be very careful to find the best meat we can, from grassfed, freerange, natural sources. Where I live catching rainwater is practically mandatory in order to minimize the strain/expense of tap water, especially if you have a garden, which we do as well as a greenhouse. I couldn't imagine these things being illegal. In the nearby city they recently legalized the ownership of hens. Residents there are now allowed to raise a small number of hens in the backyard of their home. On that note we buy eggs from the farmer and the names of the hens which provided the eggs are written on the label. So different than what you describe. Hell, we also go in on, with 3 others, a whole cow for the deep freezer. So that's 1/4 of all the cuts on a cow each. We don't now the name of the cow if it even had one. Forgive me, but the places you refer to, I could never live there and, as such, I agree wholeheartedly this is a major issue.

I used to love having a black bean burger at a particular chain restaurant. About 4 years ago, I went to this restaurant and found they had replaced the black bean burger with a beyond meat-type version. I tried it and totally hated it, took two bites and didn't finish it. The family rancher is going the way of the dodo bird so although there is some access to healthy grass fed beef, this has become the exception and not the rule.
I also know that forests, especially in South America, are being cleared to create grass lands for beef production so soon these places that use to get a lot of rain won’t be pulling the same amount of rain without those trees. It looks to be that the hand writing is on the wall and we should at least start lowering our meat consumption.

Where do you think the millions of people who want to buy meat are now going to go to get it? Those local farms.
One of two things will happen as demand skyrockets, with farms being unable to meet that demand unless they are factory farming to increase supply. Either you will go to the local farm and there simply won't be any meat for you to buy, because everyone else already bought it... Or the price will match the demand, and skyrocket as well.
As Western countries are highly capitalistic, I imagine farmers would look to maximize profits and charge people whatever they can are willing to pay. But my choice wasn’t because “it’s better for the environment” or “to save animals”… I am doing this strictly because I FEEL GOOD. I think that’s an important difference

There's also the aspect of your individual gut... and how your body as an individual digest these meats. Could be that your body doesn't digest said meats properly causing bloating

@@jchastain789 exactly!! It wasn’t normal that I’d eat a meal and look 6-9 months pregnant afterwards… as soon as I switched to a vegetarian diet that went away. Also when I eat I don’t feel exhausted after. I probably have some kind of nutrient absorption and utilization problem I’m not aware of 😬

I think this converstaion was a bit one sided, tbh. They should’ve talked about more about industrial meat and how those animals are treated with vaccines and antibiotics have an impact on our body. I’m not a vegan nor a vegetarian, but household cattle and chicken is just like a different animal then those who are raised in industrial enviroment. Most people don’t have the opportunity to get grassfed meat or game meat. Most people are eating industrial meat wich is i think on par with beyond meat.

@@connorjohn5013 100%. I kind of felt attacked watching it because I’m part of the veg/vegan community but my reasoning is so much different than what they were saying… meat isn’t BAD.. the chemicals and all the SHIT they give and feed the animals is what’s bad!! If you can buy even grass fed vacuumed packaged meats right from a butcher, it’s 10x better than industrialized meats!! Shit even just buying organic grass fed at the store is better. Yes it’s “more expensive” but you know what the most expensive part is? The new kidney you’ll need in 30 years
PS The beyond meat is trash and tastes like cat food if you were wondering

It also depends if you were eating quality meat. The meat sold in the stores is really bad quality, the way they treat animal is bad which could be the reason for your issues. I am happy things are working out for you. Just wanted to give another perspective.

I found a new quiet home "out of town" last summer but turned out to be part of an 1880s farm/ranch unworked for decades but all the land, tools and potential intact. I'm a hack so, with arriving mid-summer, only planted a couple casual gardens in cattle tanks. Disregarded the apple trees; did not recognize the bush cherries until loaded with fruit. STUNNED at the taste of fresh sweet corn, tomatoes and melons. Neighbor rancher tills my laughable few acres I can manage by hand in 15 minutes while doing the other alfalfa fields surrounding so plan on raising as much as possible. Add the 500 head+ of Angus beef (100 of which is "held" as reserve/not for market) and feeling more reassured than ever in this eroding world. Corn is great but am NOT a vegetarian! Encourage everyone to plant their own gardens whereever and how much they can. Not even I will be self-sufficient but every bit counts when the Forces That Be do everything in their power to make us helpless.

@@Gingersnaps6969 Yeah they talk alot of shit because they like meat and want it to be painted in a good light.
Below 5% of the U.S. Beef is grassfed.
Simply because it uses a huge amount of land and that much land is not there. There is a reason why farmers switched to feeding grains.
It is cheaper because you can have more beef on the same amout of land (and work).
Because grass uses the sun to produce energy. Grains use the sun and huge amounts of energy dense (from fossil fuels produced) fertilizer.
Where do these guys think the water for the 96% grain fed beef comes from.
"oH It iS jUsT RAiN wAtEr"
Yes most of it is rain that feeds giant monocultures that are only there to feed cattle. Cattle that produces alot of methane because the poor cows are not made for eating high density food. They would eat grass in nature.
You could very well produce other food there.
And the moronic argument "you should then also not eat almonds" is just stupid.
What? You really compare yourself eating 4 pounds of red meat a week to someone eating like 100g of almonds? Is that what we should compare.
