The Sudden Strike series is a collection of real-time tactics (RTT) computer games set in World War II. The series is developed by Fireglow based in Russia and published by CDV software of Germany and has since been re-published by ZOOM-Platform.com. The player selects a faction (e.g. Soviets, Germans, or Allied forces) and gains control of many varied units such as infantry, tanks and artillery. The games focus primarily on tactics, eschewing traditional real-time strategy resource gathering and base development.

Sudden Strike 1 is one of my favourite games in my childhood/ teen years... It was so addictive, and yet also so frustratingly hard xD
EXACTLY, frustrating but capable to beat. Great game. I was only 6 when I bought it and beat it too on hard.

The best map was the Saving Private Ryan map from Sudden Strike Forever. Starting with the Omaha beach fight and ending with the defensive of the small village ... with sniper inside the church and destroying the bridge ...like in the movie
Sudden Strike Recourse War, added only fuel and the ability to repair buildings.
The idea of producing units is already available through gates of reinforcements in the script.

Dude I almost won the defense of Berlin with a tank two snipers a machine gun,and a panzerfaust and I had three dude on West Bank of the rive who survived ,I had blew up most of the bridges,but they found out I was in the southern suburbs just started pounding it lmao blew up my hiding spots shot like twice before being overun

Lo que tú hiciste es lo ideal, si se puede, formar pequeños grupos especializados y avanzar solo con ese grupo.
Algunas de mis misiones favoritas on "Factories", "Provisional Airfield" y "Destroy de Koenigstiger"
The music is a callback
I can't understand why Sudden Strike (+SS2, SSRW, HS, etc.) doesn't get more attention... I mean everyone still loves and plays Heroes Of Might and Magic 3, Age Of Empires 2, etc and SS just looks as beautiful as those games and it still plays itself extremely well. There is even a good mod support until today with great mods such as the Vietnam Project oder Modern Warfare. I also think that the original games are way better than SS4 and not just because of nostalgia.

for me for example Blitzkrieg was better than Sudden Strike 2. Maybe other people also think like this.
Blitzkrieg was a little bit more arcade but it is a fine game too, in fact a lot more people remeber Blitzkrieg than SS. Yet both games had a different aproach. SS was operating on a way larger scale, was much more like a great strategy game.

Sudden Strike 3: The Last Stand is withouth a doubt! The best one in the whole franchise. They should have just polished that one or upgraded it instead of making the fourth one. Feel like SS4 has taken to much inspiration from games like CoH and such, it was to simple and cheesy, something that plague newer games unfourtanely.

oh my....grew up playing RTS games, C&C, Starcraft, Dune, Age of Empire, Mech Commander... I can't believe I have never heard of this franchise......

lol. yeah that was odd.
I could call it the best if it didn't feel like the only half of the game was developed. It lacks content and some useful features that was present in SS2, like moving group of units with the same speed. They added trenches, which is great improvement, but didn't make a mechanic that would allow units to move inside a trench. They have to jump out of trench in order to switch position, what means that, again, only half of the feature was implemented, just a bare minimum to get it working. Also, for me it was a disappointment, that dead bodies disappear, unlike it was in previous games. So overall impression is that they really lacked the budget and released the game asap, just as they got something playable, and then failed to earn enough money to finish the game. Anyway, I love the game, still play it time to time.

The original sudden strike was released in 2000!? I remember I bought it in 2005 and thought it was new. I loved it way more than command and conquer.

Used to play lots of Sudden Strike 2 20 yrs ago in NAA clan. Haven't played MP in years, but found a free version on the net that's been fun playing around with. Always just liked looking at it and finally understood why some liked looking at train sets in the 1950's. I find Sudden Strike charming eye candy to just look at with the art, but certainly not realistic compared to Combat Mission which is what I've played steady since SS3. I liked SS3, but believe it failed because of poor if any MP support back in the day. SS2 MP is what gave that game it's biggest audience so it was a big mistake what they did with 3 that ended the series. Checked out 4, but just lacked the charm that 2 or even 3 had. Perhaps I've just grown as well with Combat Mission. To the developers make a HD version of 2 and I'll buy it. Have seen someone converted SSF to HD so I think there an audience for 2 in HD.

First encountered Sudden Strike series, when I found Sudden Strike 2 on my granddad computer. I was then about 10 years old and I really enjoyed this game. It was difficult and I remember that I've completed only a few missions, but damn, this was satisfying. Once I showed it to my friend and on my birthday he bought me Sudden Strike 4 - played few missions, got bored, made a break for about two years and now I am replaying it again with much more enthusiasm. In my opinion missions are much easier than in SS 2, but I cannot complain, new mechanics and better graphics are really cool and missions are in my opinion much more understandable (because of markers, which SS 2 lacked). Great game

@@FeelingShred Not exactly, but pretty close. His realtion with SS2 was like some sort of love-hate relationship. I saw him once playing it. His infantry was decimated, tanks wiped out by enemy artilliery batteries, so he thought it would be wise to start an offensive just with cannons. If that failed miserabely I saw him ragequit and trash talking this game. But I am quite sure he still keeps this game on his computer and plays it.
I know the feeling... it's like XCOM turn-based tactical strategy, you keep being decimated by aliens but somehow the game still keeps you hooked no matter what 🤘love these kinds of games

I can't get into sudden strike 3, it's just too ugly. The sprite work in the first ones, especially Hidden Stroke 2, is unbelievably beautiful and will never age.

Think the General unit really hurt the game for some players. If you lost you general early, you pretty much were going to lose.

I used to play ss2 alot when i was younger but im skeptical on getting ss4 rn.
As for my best tactical games, i like the total war series, crusader king series, men of war series, company of heroes, civilization series, command and conquer series and battle realms. Eh, i bet you know and have played this games. I hope you could recommend some games to me too. Keep having fun bro!

Sudden strike 4 is basically an upgrade to codename panzers phase 1/2
I play/ed SSRW the most because the gamespeed is much faster than the other two games (SS1/2).
Resource-management is ok but the negativ point of this game is the infinite amount of reinforcements the AI gets in some campaigns. Factory/hospitals still producing units after fully destroyed. Some areas are completely visible for the AI even when no units are there. Etc etc.
But even with this little bugs. It’s hella fun to play it. Hope SS gets back to his roots.
Did you know that, producing units isn’t actually a feature of SSRW it is just that the developers put reinforcement gates at the entrance of the buildings so it looks like that. It is possible in sudden strike 2 already.
Didn't know about that if im honest. Even now you're still able to find some exploits and new mechanics in the old SS games, like a rapid fire sniper in SS1/FE :D.
Generally the reinforcement system in RW wasn't really thought through. Annoying but still beatable.

Yep, beatable but poorly scripted and it isn’t what Sust is about, caring for each unit is important not spamming units from factories.

So sad we will never see a remaster of ss or ss2 since the source Code is lost :( we can just hope for a remake like the DE of age of empires 2 but I doubt they will put so mich effort and resources into such game.

I love Men of War, is my favourite RTS of all time. What game should I try Suden Strike 3 or Blietzkrieg 2?
To those who say ss4 is shit, have you played it, i played all of ss games since my childhood and i know what's good old ss days but ss4 has new cool mechanics, it plays really good and it can be played really tactically if you knoe how, one thing that they fucked up is range of units whinc heeds to be a lot bigger and lines of sight, rest is perfect in my opinion

I have ss4 on ps4, arty ranges are short, tank los is short. The answer is to low crawl inf to scout the target. pretty realistic actually as tanks always needed inf to protect&guide them. These fast games on youtube are fun to watch, but it takes me several hours to crawl thru a mission, so immersive for me. ps4 needs more rts games though, especially naval.

wow counter action i never knew about that and i always loved SS games. I played the 1st SS in 2000. ss 3 was pretty crap and ss 4 looks amazing but many steam reviews suggest its nothing like the orignal games which im so dissapointed about. It looks as tho there is no large scale maps or battle at all in ss4 and i have watched many videos. Its been dumbed down and its a damn shame. Ss 4 should have had a different name.
I have played the first sudden strike games since i was 7 and i had an aversion to SS3 from the moment i first saw it, because it wasnt compatible with the nostalgia i associated with the series.
However, one could argue that SS3 and 4 are still good games, just not good continuations of the SS series.

That's why we still play SS 1.21 forever on steam. The best.
gates of hell is a good successor to the original SS games tho im yet to see HUGE scenarios and lots of units

Holy shit, I LOVED SS2 when I was a kid. I barely understood the game but I loved the looks of it.
And the devs of SS4 are from my country? OMG
I've got simmilar experiece - once found it on my granddad computer when I was 10. Enjoyed this game really much, barely even knowing how to play and with minimal understanding whatsoever. Completed only few missions after hours of trials, but if I succeeded, it was so satisfying. Now I play SS4 and wonder why missions are so easy.

Sudden strike 3 and 4 was a goddamn joke.
I bought SS when I was 6 at a local electronics store. Beat it on hard at the age 7, loved the single missions which till this day still play to improve, and have least amount of casualties as possible.
SS2 was meh, I've never cared for the japanese theater in most games because of the shit color palette they use but was still fun and difficult when I got Resource War.
Lot of people disliked it but It added a whole different way to play it, and playing it on hard was ever so more challenging which I guess people started not to like.
SS3 was cool but not as fun., loved the trenches and such, Better graphics, 3d does not = a better game it just means an excuse for making us like the game for shit game mechanics and lack of unique ideas. I hated the icons above the soldier, but tbh I forgot if we could disable them or not, but at that point I just didnt care.
SS4 I played it and NOTHING about it was tactical. WE CAN PAUSE????? SERIOUSLY?????? HOLY SHIT, that alone ruined the fucking game entirely. The camera view is fucking atrocious, Just goddamn terrible.

personally sudden strike 3 is the best, 4 has better graphics but it doesnt deliver on the tactics its predecessors produced. 4 is basically drag and drop. the other sudden strikes makes you grind.

Maybe SS4 is not a bad game, but it is clearly not a Sudden Strike. They just took a title, but made a completely different game. Weird decision.
