  • An absolute classic game from 1982. Don't let Rex catch you!

    The thing that makes me jump from the T-Rex running towards you is when its last frame before getting you just suddenly becomes detailed. I only expected a smiling pixel dinosaur, but then the teeth and eyes come into view.

    Great to see this again after 30-odd years. It really was a scary game!

    One of the key things about this game was that the ZX81 had just 1K of memory as standard with the 32x24 character screen taking up 768 bytes of that if used fully. As such games like this were a true work of art.

      Nope, not just 1K of RAM memory: in order to play this game you needed a 16 KB ZX81 (or the 16 KB memory expansion)

    The reason the appeal resets the game is that if your appeal is successful, you are not sentenced to roam the maze forever. If the appeal fails, you must roam forever (attempt the maze again)...at least until you appeal again or turn off the computer.

    Dang, caught completely off guard! Imagine seeing that as a kid back in its original release...

    Did you use a ZX Spectrum emulator running the ZX81 emulator? Or was it the emulator for a ZX128? It certainly wasn't a ZX81 emulator since the screen didn't get black while generating.

    Got this back in the olden days, loved it at the time. Lots of games stood on the shoulders of this, such as Wolfenstein... I've still got the original zx81 cassette... Wonder if it's worth any thing...

    Interesting vid. I'm glad I clicked on it. Can this kind of game be played on PC too?

    Absolute genius coding. But the experience is ruined if you see it as pictures of pulley wheels!

    Anyone else notice the bad grammar in this game? "He is hunting for you." Unless the T-rex is your pet, I'm pretty sure he's hunting you, not hunting for you.

    • @thatoneotheridiot3361
      @thatoneotheridiot3361 Před 5 lety +6

      It's proper grammar. It means he's hunting around to find you. It can mean either.
      Wait, why did I reply to a 3 year old comment?
