I have heard this a lot, that music and comedy work similarly, and are equally mysterious as to WHY they both work. Mr. Romano knows comedy backwards and forwards, and why it works is still a mystery to him. This is oddly comforting to know.
Such a great description of the creative process. One of the comedy greats
Praise Boog!
Ray Romano is just a really likeable guy
"Where are any of us?"
Ha. Oh my...
Ha, I love that he’s the kind of guy that laughs at the jokes inside his head. 😂
Your kid's behaviour can be a great basis for some funny stories.
And we're the basis of some of theirs, too.
I relate to both the dad panicking on the phone, and the son breaking down on the busy road, describing my surroundings, not paying attention to Dad panicking on the other end of the phone.
One of the most naturally funny people ever
Timing is 80 percent of it, flow with prior jokes is about 10 percent, and the other 10 percent is the punch.
The music analogy is functional for so many things, if it works it works
Music does have reasons for what works and what doesn't though
@@JonnyBriers Well not really reasons. We know what works and what doesn't but we still can't really say why one series of notes is pleasing when another isn't aside from "this math tells us these intervals sound better together"
@@JonnyBriers Yes, and in comedy I've noticed that the formula has to do with the element of surprise. The "setup" is saying something and the " punchline" is saying just the opposite. All with perfect timing.
Joke is directly proportional to the sharpness of the audience it is directed at..if the audience is sharp and quick, jokes are visible..if your audience is dull and lazy mentally, jokes are invisible however gud they may be..
Half my video views are Hot Ones and Off Camera. Not a lot of interviewers at Sam and Sean's level
Add Graham Bensinger to that list my dude
Graham is nowhere near the depth of Sam or Sean
Sometimes sean is too robotic.
💯
Time might very well have no meaning but Ray Romano is the definition of funny.

Omg ... ur inside my head as a parent- brilliant!
Context is huge in comedy too. But it is mysterious what makes what funny.
He is so much like the Aspbergers character he played in Parenthood. So internal, very little eye contact. I mean no disrespect by that. I am a huge fan of his and thought he should have won an Emmy for that part!
Agreed! He was amazing
Exactly how I write material. When the new joke works man he’s not lying it’s the best feeling.
You a writer? Anything out there I could read?
First ever CZcams video I've seen with 0 dislikes...
Welp, we know of at least three schmucks out there.
Had to down vote it because of you. You have only yourself to blame.
Everybody loves Raymond
Robert Barrone made 13 accounts to dislike this
I had a comedian tell me very similar advice in 2010. In rehab
I love him :"D Oh my gosh. His son is a total sassmaster though, haha
💯💯💯💯
The more unexpected/unanticipated the punchline, the better the joke
Story's I've heard of your family kids etc...very funny ... You know that is any sitcom tv show ..
Wow. 0 dislikes. I guess everyone does love Raymond.
I’m sorry. I had to; it’s low hanging fruit.
aw no, his brother robert gave one dislike
@@zer0953 lol yeah and now another one, maybe Robert's cop partner
what's the idea behind black and white clips?
Mooseport.
Gotta work on that last bit tho
Straight face gang
I wonder how someone funny would construct a joke.
First!
I never thought he was funny at standup. Just seemed lame. His schtick was more boring than Seinfeld’s stand up. But he was brilliant as a writer and sitcom actor. So was Seinfeld.
Oh like writing jokes? Lol they just don't have a great demenour during standup but they were great for a reason they all started at standup and aside from their success in shows they love standup and can't quit
This was a lot better than I expected. Awesome
