    I've owned a bunch of Chinese bikes and ended up working on them as much as I rode them, I didn't like to go too far out in the bush because it may have to push it back out. I bought the XR 150 and absolutely love it, well worth the extra money

    I had a 2020 Bashan BSR 250 for a summer, and I was looking at photos of it while watching the video. The Honda looks damn near identical. The instrument cluster looks almost exactly the same, and I wouldn't be surprised it was made in the same factory. It was a good bike, but it was slow. The license plate bracket got ripped off immediately when trail riding, I'm sure yours will too. I replaced it and the rear lights with an Amazon one that mounted under the seat. I bought mine for $1600 and sold it for $1500 at the end of the summer

    Good video. I have a 2019 carbureted Hawk 250 with over 13,000 miles on it. Yes, I've done many mods, but it has been very reliable. It will do a consistent 65 mph on the highway all day long with its current sprocket set-up. Parts can also be had for much less $ than OEM Honda parts. Nevertheless, I would prefer the Honda due to dealership support, parts availability, and much, much higher quality control, even if it's made in the Honda-Sundiro plant in China and assembled in Mexico.

      I've got a 2022 taotao tbr7, I've lost a heat shield bolt(home Depot had a replacement), currently at 11000 miles bought it for 1600 after taxes, does 68 even if it screams doing it, and the only problem I've had is the sprocket studs(they snapped), used they seem to sell for about 1200, so I'm realistically out only 400, 700 if I include mantaince, honestly it's done me well,

      Good video! I was shopping used dual sports (ideally a DR350, or KLX250-ish ... something lighter than my vStrom, which rules out the 400+ pound Himalayan), and Chinese New bikes (budget ones, plus CF MOTO. Their 450 is bigger than I want, and too expensive. But if they made a 200 - 275 size, they'd sell like crazy),
      And new. Which were too small (I'm 6'5") or too expensive.
      So I have a 2024 XL150R now, for 3 reasons:
      1. Meet my functional needs (and I'd prefer injection, but appreciate the long term reliability from simplicity of no electronics, and appreciate air-cooled up north here)
      2. Honda quality plus warranty plus dealer network, plus aftermarket support both for cheap parts and for accessories ... but still looking for a "tall commuter seat".
      #3 Honda Financing. As the economy collapses further, hyper inflation will reduce the dollars value. Pushing payments into the future means paying dollars worth a fraction of today's value, making the bike cheaper (in today's dollars), even after adding interest, than paying cash now. (I did a spreadsheet).
      With zero down payment, you can get weekly payments under CA$20.
      Roughly US$14 per week. $2 power day. I don't think the folks importing bikes from China will offer those terms!

      Big cost difference in a lot of chinese branded things are Quality control.
      You're literally paying for a higher standard that accounts for better oversight and they will ditch more that don't stack up.
      The guarantee and consistency is better in bigger brands and that's what you pay for in most cases.

      The hawk has an old Honda motor and those motors are extremely reliable. You can read up on them. So basically Honda figured out a way to create a lesser cc bike (the Honda in this video) with practically all Chinese parts and still call it a Honda. People need to realize this and do the research. Honda is now making cheap bikes in collaboration with China And selling it underneath their name. There is a tiny bit more quality control is about all you are going to get. The person in this video made a complete fool of himself because he has no clue what he’s talking about.

    I can tell you that one of the weak points of the standard (carbed) Hawk, TBR7, Raven, and similar bikes is the rear square tubing swing arm, and the spindly front forks. The XR150L has the same suspension. If one compares the XR150L to a $2,000 Brozz, with the inverted forks, beefy rear swingarm, and counterbalanced motor, then the Brozz is a better deal. The fair comparison would be to a bike like the Lifan KPX. Most people that buy a duel sport need to have enough mechanical knowledge to do repairs. Parts are very common, and cheap for all these bikes. I don't think the resale value would be a great factor in choosing a cheap bike. Some people are already reporting having close to $4,000 in the Honda XR150L , after dealer fees, and such. They probably are good enough bikes for pleasurly riding on back roads, and mild trails, but they wont hold up to any real abuse that requires a good suspension. I don't know if they come with steel, or aluminum wheels, but if they are on steel wheels, I would say they are pretty easy to bend under any real off road .

    • @Charles-yv9wy
      @Charles-yv9wy Před rokem +2

      @@JM-dr1vl The Brozz will still run every bit as long as the Honda. It's simple push rod motor is rock solid, as are all the CG types. You are going to be putting rings in any hard working small engine, regardless of push rod, or chain driven over head cam, once the hours really rack up, but there is little difference in the actual lower components of these engines. It's not the years it's the miles/hours, and how hard they have been ran. I can tell you for sure that the Brozz has better, and beefier suspension than both the standard fork, Hawk(and similar bikes), as well as the HondaXR150L. The Honda may have better rims, but I don't know, and will have better chain, and rear sprocket studs, but most that own the Chinese bikes replace them soon after buying.

      @@JM-dr1vl given the fact these bikes are basically identical, I would argue probably yes just as likely as yes... Regardless if they aren't, you could spend another $450 (delivered) for a spare engine on a Chinese bike just to swap it in if anything brakes, regardless 10,000 miles ain't a massive amount but I've put more then that on mine and while I'm thinking of swapping bikes it's not because of reliability but because of power(I'm looking at the CSC rx4 to be honest, another Chinese bike)

    I will say that the XR150 is a China produced bike with Honda.
    Yes initial quality control will be better on the Honda no doubt but the longevity and how things like the wheels, suspension and swingarm hold up after people start trail bashing them remains to be seen.
    Honda does offer a dealer network with easier to source replacement parts BUT to have that OEM part availability is going to hit you hard in your wallet particularly electrical replacement components like a CDI or stator as compared to Chinese sourced replacement parts.
    And honestly to compare the Honda to a Chinese branded bike you need to compare what is available for the same money and honestly I think some of the upper end Chinese bikes with the actual 250cc engines with the 6 speed transmissions for still less than what the Honda will cost you I am not sure the Honda is a better bike or buy.
    You have to remember after adding in the dealer fees minus the registration fees the Hondas are still running $3400 to $4000 out the door!
    Will be interesting to see some reviews down the road a bit seeing how these new Hondas hold up over the longer term.

Up grades on the hawk are so cheap that i have been able to built quite a rally bike and can still make a ton of improvements including a 300 big bore kit and still only be into it for less than 2 grand.

    My Hawk 250 2017 is a push rod motor not counter balanced. I think that's one of the reasons they shake more. Over 3k on it and no issues accept for the front break bolts came loose. I would take it on an off road ride no hesitation but I know it's limits. Personally if I had to replace it I would go for a used DRZ over the new honda 150.

    My Bashan Brozz is definitely better than that 150. The Bashan Brozz has inverted front forks. More off road capability with ground clearance. A counterbalanced engine which makes vibration almost a non factor. I paid 1,750 for my bike delivered to my door. There were markings on all the bolts to show they torqued bolts to spec. I've beat this thing to no end and it never fails me. I'm going on 10,000 miles and don't regret it at all! If you know how to work on a bike these china bikes will go forever. We have someone with 20,000 miles and going on these honda clone engines. It's all about the satisfaction you get for the low price. I would choose a china bike over this overpriced China bike any day! Not a hawk though, more like an Orion 250 HO rated at 24 HP and an amazing suspension package plus EFI. All for 3,200, less than what you paid out the door for that underpowered Chinese made Honda lol. There are way better Chinese bikes than this Honda. They are just about on the same level with some makes and models. This video is horrible for someone trying to ride on a budget. You push them away from a solid bike for the low and try and get people to buy this overpriced Honda. What I'm trying to say is..... Honda is giving it to a lot of people in the rear end for charging sooo much for a bike that is literally lower end compared to bikes like the Templar X, Lifan KPX250 EFI, Orion 250 HO again 24HP ajd amazing suspension all for 3,200..... Chinese is the working mans bike. Point blank.

      @mybeautybelize Před 7 měsíci +1

      Overpriced maybe. But from all chinese bikes like lifan etc we have here. None even with inverted forks has the capability of suspension of the xr150l. And none last half that long to still ride in that condition. Just my opinion. Maybe the lifans sold there are better quality too. Because i see they are more advanced like aluminum rims fuel injection. Etc

    • @irishryder2470

      @@mybeautybelize look at my channel. I ride rocky trails that are probably a bit advanced for my bike but it handles it well. Have I had to replace a few wear and tear parts along the way yes. I still have just as much fun and my bike has more HP and a better suspension, I modified my bikes suspension/heavier oil in the front forks inverted and a different rear shock. Over here they have dealers that make them to our liking, take our advice and make the bikes better like the Orion company and peace sports who sells the Bashan Brozz. I definitely got my money's worth and can still sell it for 1,000 bucks when I'm done with it. So it's all about preference and if you are worried about name brand and all that good stuff. I didn't have much money at the time and really wanted to get into riding. These Chinese bikes allowed for that. Also got me into working on bikes and now I can rebuild an entire engine all self taught.

Who cares if it's a Honda and you get a few more $ resale if they are bending you over at the dealership? I was quoted $4k which is insane for a carb'ed 150. Such a great sized bike, but a massive disappointment in quality. Built in China and assembled in Mexico. Doesn't get much worse than that. For $3.2k total I can get an FI 250, that can actually go on the highway legally. That's right, for $800 less I can get a bike that's the same crappy quality but way more power and usability.
