if timed correctly, akuma's ultra can go thru many projectiles. i think his ultra can go thru ryu's ultra if the invincibility frame starts exactly at when the fireball is on top of akuma.
It's a 50/50 guess situation. Ryu's hp super can punish Akuma's sweep, but Akuma can cancel the recovery of the sweep with ultra and punish the hp super. On the other hand if the Ryu player anticipates the counter ultra (which is what happened in this match) then you can throw a lp super. Lp super is too slow to punish the sweep though. It can be blocked, BUT if Akuma throws out the ultra thinking it was a hp super he will get hit with the lp super due to the slower speed of the fireball.
from that distance, the sweep will be punished, cause the demon's startup is the only point it has invincibility. its not a 50/50 b/c the shunkuu's speed/hitbox will hit the akuma from that sweep's distance, if the gouki wants the cancel ultra, hes gotta sweep closer but not too close that he can get punished by a regular atk, the sweep was distances so that HP shinkuu would hit no matter what

daigo made the gouki-ryu 50-50 matchup look like 10-90 and he made dhalsim-ryu look like 55-45 matchup when it was really one of the worse matchup for ryu 1st god can only do so much.
