  • In this video, Ed Frawley shares a question from the Ask Cindy database. Today's question is about a very reactive rescue dog that a owner has. The dog is reactive towards squirrels, birds, motorcycles, and even strangers riding bikes. The owner wants to know what measures they can take to get better at calming the dog down.

Gold nuggets here folks. And one of the best nuggets on this one in particular is “watch these videos over and over again”. I seem to pick up something new each time I refer back to them.

I very much appreciate your videos! You are saying things other trainers just aren’t saying. I agree with you 100% when you said it isn’t necessary to put our dogs around other dogs or take them to dog parks!! It’s so frustrating to hear so many trainers say those things are he ultimate goal in training. I’m just over here tying to manage my rescue’s reactivity in our home!

Cindy is correct. This dog has to be counter condition to stop the respondant reaction immediately. I hate to see this happen. The dog self rewards. Great video, thank you sir.

Also I agree no reason to bring other dogs around. The best that can happen is they get along, but something else can happen that is not good. It affects the future behavior of both dogs if something goes wrong.
