First of all...I love how it's 'banana' that comes into talking about dialects and it is an interesting exercise. Secondly, I agree, it was weird seeing Joel's voice come out of Lizzie's body.
the tomato and potato argument is also fun. toe-may-toe or toe-mah-toe, po-tay-toe or po-tah-toe. and then there's the southern accented americans that piss off everyone and say "to-may-tuh" and "po-tay-tuh" and "ba-na-nuh" (≧▽≦)
I'm french, I don't understand the difference, but this argument will always be hilarious to me just because of how much time they spent on this and how caught up in the argument they were! For how to pronounce the most basic fruit ever!
I love all things British. I've noticed that when Brits say words with an "a" at the end like "banana" it sounds like they say it with an "r" at the end. Am I the only one who hears that?
It's called an "intrusive r." It's often subconscious and helps with fluidity between a word that ends with a low vowel and a word that starts with another vowel.
Depends on the accent, neither is not 'british' the long 'a' sound is typically part of received pronunciation and Southern accents although my local area in the south-west tend to say it like Jimmy while I say it like Lizzie cause I've adapted to received pronunciation over the years. I kind of had to minimise my somewhat Somerset accent for the benefit of French and Norwegian people so they can actually understand what I'm saying rather than 'yai skrrivr' (yes that's misspelt to emphasise hoe it would have sounded without me minimising my accent)
I just said banana myself, including different sentenced that I've said it in before- and I say it both ways. Me, a full American say it both ways depending on context and they sound so similar to the point where it's just hilarious where I didn't even realize the difference until they talked about it 😂
“I’m scared of British people” 😆 isn’t he British meaning he is scared of himself For some reason it kinda sounds like they were saying Ben and Anna very fast which kinda sounds like banana
It would have been so funny if they just got everyone on the server to say banana and all the Europeans say it the say lizzy does or similarly and all the Americans and Canadians said it the other way, and jimmy is just there being momentarily American
lizzy seems to have fused British and American Southern in her banana pronunciation. she's got the long A of the British style but the last syllable has the American Southern "uh". the American A is more nasally and sharp, the British A is softer and breathy. but the American Southern subs in an "uh" sound on some words that end with vowel sounds. so Southern American banana sounds more like "ba-na-nuh" that "ba-na-nah" (American) or "ba-nah-na" (British). same with tomato and potato. American Southern turns the ending "oh" into an "uh", tho they do keep the American "ay" sound in the middle. syllable instead of the British "ah". accents! they're so fun!

That’s because he’s Scottish people who live to the to the north of England don’t stress there A the same as the south it’s just an accent
