You gotta react to Eric's 'Layla' with it's iconic guitar riff. Written when he fell for the wife of George Harrison (of The Beatles). He was George's friend and the obsession he had for Patti Harrison was tearing him apart. He chose the name of the song after a character in an ancient Persian love story, which he then empathised with for it's theme of going crazy over an unrequited love. Clapton did eventually marry Patti.

Eric Clapton has been through more than a lot. The tragic loss of his son is unfathomable. Additionally, after a concert one night Eric Clapton was already strapped into a helicopter that would fly him back to his hotel. Stevie Ray Vaughn was on the concert bill that night and he had something personal to attend to and he asked Clapton if Eric wouldn't mind taking the next helicopter back to the hotel. Clapton obliged and exited the helicopter. Stevie Ray climbed aboard and strapped in. 5 minutes later everyone aboard the helicopter was dead including SRV after it crashed into a hillside. This still haunts Eric Clapton to this very day.

"I never heard Eric Clapton before"
Back in the day, we didn't see the faces of saints in our scorched toast - we saw the face of Clapton. Rock God. Please listen to his music. All of it.

How he got through doing this song about his child falling off a 53rd floor apartment... You can hear the pain and agony in his voice, Eric Clapton was one of the best rock guitarists with Derrick and the Dominos (Layla etc etc) then he does songs like this and "Wonderful Tonight". An incredible talent, from the 1960 'till today, one of the best ever.

I recommend studio versions of Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" (love ballad, 1977) and "Lay Down, Sally" (also from 1977) and "(If I Could) Change the World" (1996), as well as "Layla" (1971) when he was a member of Derek and the Dominos.

For Eric this song was cathartic when you were on the music and the words he quit touring for a long time and wrote the song to help him through his grief and then go back on the road

When I hear this song it reminds me of so much. When my twins died back in the 90s it was a terrible blow to me an my wife. She went into a catatonic depression and had to be institutionalized. They usef electric shock on her. It removed the memory of our children but it also erased her memory of me. She was just a shell of her former self. My grief knew no respite bit time. Last year my oldest son killed himself. He was just 30. I haven't been able to get past it. Now I know I may never be the same. It's cool to feel vibes with you so I'm going to sub.

Eric is a pure genius no other words for him, this song appeared in the 90s movie Rush (not the newer one with Chris H) the film is about addiction based on a true story and the song was written for his son who tragically died and because Eric was once an addict he let the song be used in the movie
