- It's May, 2024 and even though Fall & Winter are traditionally the times for toy trains, Menards continues to introduce new products. In this episode, I look at JimBo's Gym, Moe's Cycle Shop and The Calamity Caboose Works in O Gauge / Scale.
Menards sure does give you Alot For Your Buck. Lots of super cool cool Details. Thanks for Sharing Bob.
They do put in a lot detail and the lighting is pretty good too.
Thanks for bringing us along on your Menards visit Bob!
Will Menards product become collectibles? Only time will tell. The buildings might if they're popular but kept as limited runs, the old "supply and demand" rule would kick in. As far as their railroad rolling stock is concerned they might end up like Williams products, at the moment there's little to no collector demand for the Williams line of O Gauge trains but that's a good thing, it's kept the prices affordable and there's still a lot out there to choose from.
That makes sense Wayne. Happy Memorial Day!👍🏻😀🇺🇸
@@bobsworkshop5181 Thanks Bob! And the same to you!
Cool stuff 😎 thanks for showing
Thanks for watching Donald!
Have a great memorial day. I recently bought their Cripple Creek jail.
Thanks Paul. Happy Memorial Day to you too. 👍🏻🇺🇸😀
Thanks Bob!
Thanks for watching!
Much like the Carvanna the Gym is a bit to modern for my layout. I have found that the lighted rolling stock works very well as long as it's not moving.!😂 Out of stock older items seem to be higher price on eBay but like you say how will the price hold up in the future? Have a nice Memorial Day.!
Thanks Mark. You too. I guess out of stock items that aren’t or unopened might increase in value. What you say makes sense and there’s no one I know who has more knowledge about Menards products. 😀🇺🇸👍🏻
We don't have Menards in NC, but whenever I go back to MI to visit I stop in. Menards is definitely a budget friendly alternative, but I have never been fully satisfied with what I have bought there.
Issues I have:
1. Most, if not all, rolling stock is 0-27 scale that doesn't blend with my full o scale stock
2. Rebate is mail-in and always seems more a pain to redeem so I never have.
3. Most of the rolling stock is underweight and/or has some sort of defect that derails or uncouples right out of the box...some easily repairable and some not.
4. Does the dog need to be on every building?
5. Lighting system is cumbersome and hard to hide vs Woodland Scenic
I applaud Menards for being a company that is passionate about model railroading and allows people to enjoy it at an affordable price...but its just not for me.
Great video, Bob. Hope my little rant is not out of line.
Thanks for watching and the rant😀 I don’t mind the rebate system now but I didn’t like it at first. I agree with all the other points though. 👍🏻
Neat Menards stuff Bob. Made a Memorial Day video.
I have seen lots of Menards buildings at swap meets but prices have always been much more than buying them from Menards. I’m not paying those prices.
I’ve seen a few Menards flat cars that were about $10.00 for a pair.
@@bobsworkshop5181 i bought some a few years back for about $6 or 7 each. They had a whole box full and were on sale.
China has created a whole new world for the hobby industry.
I’m not sure how I feel about so much stuff coming from China. I guess there are positives and negatives. 🤔
@@bobsworkshop5181 They have taken mass model making to a new level and at very affordable prices.
That they have but honestly I'm not 100% happy with it. Too much to go into here.
Hi Bob, Some of their stuff has doubled and even tripled in price. I have been looking for the York hotel and I can't justify the $400 plus price tag on eBay when and if they show up. Happy Memorial Day. Bill
Hi Bill. I remember when Menards was testing their beta units of the powered F diesels and seeing them offered later on eBay for double the Menards price. And the beta units had multiple quality control issues, but people still wanted them. Go figure.
