  • In this video I show How to Grow Geraniums (Pelargonium x hortorum) from Cuttings and show the Complete Process from how to take the cutting, to how to plant it up once it has sufficient roots. This is an easy and fun thing to do. With this method you can clone many Geraniums to grow your collection. They make great bedding plants or can be used in hanging baskets.

    Excellent video! Finally someone who shows the whole process and explains things properly. For all beginners: it’s worth mentioning that loads of plants can be propagated this way, not just geraniums… Really, anything with stems and leaf nodes, you can give a try and see what happens!

    Thanks for your informative and visually instructive offering! Lovely!
    I remember my mom being inconsolable over not, even, being able to grow a geranium. I grow them for her. But, I live in a Mediterranean climate; no snow. I just put a brilliant red, geranium hedge on either side of the drive at the gate. The original plant was from a cutting 2 years ago. It was a planned grow for the hedge. If left alone, they'll grow tall and gangly, but trimmed way back, over and over, the line of them likes to be about 4' high and 2' 1/2 wide. Here, they root because there's water! We stick them in the ground, and Mom smiles in my heart. Wherever you live, geraniums will make you happy!

    • @PhillWyattProjects
      @PhillWyattProjects  Před rokem +3

      That sounds amazing having a hedge made of geraniums. I remember seeing some quite large ones in Spain. I also feel sentimental about them they remind me of my great nan. And the smell of the stems reminds me of being a kid. 🙂

    I searched for over an hour and finally found this video. Answered all my questions. Most geraniums are red in our area, which I don't care for. But recently I found a violet color geranium and I grabbed it up. It was the only one in stock. So now I'm very excited to take cutting and create more of these beautiful violet colors. Thank you so much.

    Thank you for the wonderful tips. I love geraniums in my garden. I always wait when they go on sale late summer and buy a lot. Living in Canada, I tried wrapping in newspapers and leaving in the garage for winter. Every year always disappointed, 100% of them died. Last fall chose big plants, put in a pot and leave in my sun room all winter. They all survived and planted outside this summer. This year will try cuttings of my favourite colour. Wish me luck.

      I overwinter all my various varieties of geraniums in my garage. I just bring the whole container in. I spray them really well with neem oil when I bring in so I am not spreading any pests to the other annuals that I also bring in.
      I water every 3 weeks just to keep soil moist not soggy as you don’t want them to rot. I also pull off all the lower leaves as I found that helps. They will start to look sick in the winter and this is normal as they are tired from producing flowers all spring and summer.
      I keep my garage at 50 degrees and use grow lights on timers.
      I snip off any flowers or buds coming up and watch for pests. If you see any spray with neem right away. By taking off the buds and flowers through the winter you will get nice thick stems vs small spindly ones. Check the stems regularly when you water…if they feel soft and not firm cut that stem out.
      I also keep a fan going for air circulation.
      I know some people bring them indoors but I don’t as I have to many houseplants that I don’t want to take a chance of bringing in some pest.
      You can also overwinter other annuals like impatiens, diamond euphorbia, mountain euphorbia, coleus, penny vines, ect. These are shade loving annuals so I keep those under a table or my citronella & elephant ears I keep in a darker corner in the garage. Just keep in mind your sun or shade lovers as you wouldn’t want a shade/partial shade plant directly under your grow lights because it would get fried.
      Hope this helps save you some money from repurchasing the plants you love. Also all of these can be propagated!
