    This is amazing but they are far too American and it's very shouty. Also the tempo is a bit faster than the original and she didn't hold the the notes for long enough some times. E.g. it's ment to be 'Laaa a note to follow sooo' but she sang it as 'la a note to follow so' and did similar with the rest of that verse when the notes are supposed to be help, which made it sound a bit choppy. But the staging of it all is good and I really enjoyed the acting, it's very impressive.

      Well Julie Andrews Belted in this song too, just not the whole time like Carrie. I think what everyone means is that she does it too aggressively. She's not voice acting, she's just singing, because her voice isn't trained to do musical theater like Julie Andrew's voice is. I think she does great in the parts where's she's meant to belt, but belting the entire song isn't the way it's me at to be sung. That's why people think it sounds off.
      And Carrie is also singing live and she's been trained to belt when she sings live, she's never done live musical theater especially something that's so particular to the way characters are supposed to sound. So I understand why people think it doesn't sound as good, because she doesn't but that's not necessarily a terribly bad thing, it's just that Julie Andrews clearly embodied the character better than Carrie cuz she's more experienced in this field.

Carrie sorta opens her mouth in a way that’s mainly used by singers like Kelly Clarkson or Jenifer Hudson. When Carrie says her lines are all in a American accent. She needs to learn how to switch up her style of singing if she wants to be on broadway. Sierra’s voice fits the musical’s she is put in. Not saying the Carrie’s voice is not good but I don’t think it is fitting for this musical. But Sierra is trained in Opera and Musical Theater.

    Carrie Underwood is an incredible singer. But in Musical Theatre, and really especially in R&H, a soft projection is required. Carrie is a country pop singer. She has unbelievable power and volume that you need for big pop songs. But in R&H characters like Maria, soft and gentle are the name of the game. I don't blame her for this mess, and there is a LOT more wrong with this show than the awful miscasting.

    Y’all. It’s Carrie Underwood, NOT Julie Andrews. She has a totally different voice. Carrie is a belter and very Broadway-ish and Julie is soft and musical. Plus this is a live, untuned performance not a film. Carrie isn’t going to sing or act like Julie because she isn’t Julie. I think she did exceptional considering she’s not a classically trained singer nor a trained actress.

  • @xtinafan06
    @xtinafan06 Před 4 lety +55

    She sang in the exact same key as Julie Andrews and hit all of the exact same notes, so you literally have NO clue what you're even talking about. 😂 I even have a video uploaded from 7 years ago proving that very fact. The reason it sounds very "same-y" to you is because she's belting out the entire thing instead of using dynamics to modify her volume at different intervals. She is a self-taught country singer, she wasn't classically trained as an operatic soprano like Julie Andrews was. The only time she went into her head voice was at the end, on the soprano B-flat. Everything else was in her full-throated chest voice, but that doesn't mean she wasn't changing NOTES; She just wasn't adjusting her VOLUME. I love how many people in these types of videos comment with such confidence in what they're saying without comprehending even a morsel of it, and yet they still receive tons of "likes" because of the mindless sheep that are every bit as clueless. 😂

    • @xtinafan06
      @xtinafan06 Před 3 lety +3

      @@Yes-nv2uy Not that she doesn't HAVE "the right voice" for Maria, but that she simply CHOSE to tweak it in parts and incorporate some of her OWN stylistic choices as opposed to making it a complete carbon-copy of the Julie Andrews version. Who's to say what "the right voice" is for Maria, anyway? Julie's wasn't even the original. It just so happened that she was cast as Maria in the film adaptation, and her versions of the songs became the most recognized. What if Julie hadn't been cast, though? What if she had done the Broadway version, and Mary Martin had starred in the film adaptation? That would have created a very different perspective as to what "the right voice for Maria" sounded like. But regardless, Carrie could have easily sang the entire thing in a lighter, more delicate, forwardly-placed head-voice mix - In fact, that would have made it much easier on her, since her chosen approach actually requires more extensive use of glottal muscle, because she is essentially pulling the notes directly from her throat instead of resonating in the head or the mask. It's much easier to execute a C5 (ie. you can sing most anYYYYYYYYYYthing) in a gentle head-mix tone like Julie did than belting it out like Carrie chose to. Especially on that particular vowel. The highest notes, Carrie still did in her head voice though, like the final high B-flat at the end of this song. So yes as a natural soprano, Carrie can very easily access that part of her voice. But it simply isn't her general style, and she wanted to retain most of her signature sound instead of copying a style that she isn't known or recognized for. Carrie said herself that the voice training she received for the role was far from rigorous, as it was almost exclusively geared toward eliminating some of the country twang in her voice, since she wanted to be respectful to the original in that regard. Point blank, period. Julie's vocal performance on that soundtrack is NOT difficult to reproduce. Let's keep it real. It was a typical, run-of-the-mill, Disney princess-level vocal. I actually preferred the more burly quality of Carrie's belt. Made Maria seem a bit stronger and more forceful.

      @@xtinafan06 I see. Well, that does provide more perspective on your thought process. I personally wasn't too fond of carries performance in this, but I respect your opinion and train of thought. I just thought she sounded rather aggressive for Maria's character, while yes there's no problem that Julie chose to sing that way, it just seemed ill fitting for a character like marie, who's supposed to be flighty and gentle. Thats just my opinion though, and I understand what you mean
