The Big Bad White Man When asked what kind of girls he likes, Tom often says “well I like people who-“ “someone who...” and scoots away from using pronouns. Though he has said he likes girls I don’t think assuming he’s 100% straight is really completely fair. Judging by several of the comments he’s made about other men there’s a possibility that he’s COULD be bi. So perhaps bringing up girls and boys was a very inclusive thing to say on Jake’s part. You should really never assume someone is straight.

Two years late to this, but I recently rewatched it after NWH and this is pretty fitting for the themes of FFH, since it's all about concealing the truth in place of a subjective 'truth' (kind of a Matrix-y theme, albeit not on the same scope). I mean, Gyllenhaal did play the master of illusion and misdirection, so you could say he was going method for the interviews.
