  • We take a trip into Thapusam to get a feel for the Hindu festival! It's an amazing one.
We were left truly lost for words a few times, infact I (Pat) didn't know quite how to act in some circumstances - which is unlike me!
What an experience though, Malaysia has some of the most amazing culture opportunities in the world.
Chinese New Year straight into Thaipusam! What an experience!
    Thaipusam 2023!

Thaipusam is an annual Malaysian event. Famously celebrated on a grand scale at Batu Caves' Temple due to its proximity to KL & its much adored amazing limestone cave. Those "Kavadi" carriers need to "cleanse" their bodies before they can carry the "kavadi" & feel no pains from all the body piercings. A number of local Chinese Buddhists would participate in Thaipusam, too. Buddhism originates from India. Therefore lots of similarities in Buddhism & Hinduism.

@@VeggiesOnTour They do celebrate many things in Sarawak, obviously the main ones being Ramadan and Chinese new year, They also have their own naional day. They have the Gawai Dayak festival usually celebrated at the end of May or in the beginning of June where the first 2 days of June, The Kaul, which is an occasion celebrated by the Melanau community. It is usually celebrated around the middle of March or early in April. Pesta Meow, is a festival about cats and it is held in Kuching, the capital of Sarawak around November. There are also a few more Christians in Sarawak, so they celebrate Christmas and Easter too. They are the main ones I can think about, but there are probably more. Most gruesome thing you might see are the old skulls of hunted heads hanging in a longhouse.
