im from england we just call it mince pies not mince meat pies :D im not a huge fan of it tho:(
we leave them out for santa when we are young(atleast my family does this)

All the British not liking mince pies, they are SUCH an acquired taste bc of the fruit and brandy and even the texture. Definitely a staple even tho most don’t like them 😂

Beef? I'm pretty sure that version faded out a long time ago, as it was too expensive. So, I'm not sure where they got a version with meat?
Always had fruit in it but the meat was taken away just like you said bc it was too expensive, especially during the war and then it stuck
