But even before I finished the second I got spoiled for things in later books and I discovered how long it took between them, so I decided to just watch the show as a different thing because I knew it was going to get ahead of the books and read them once it was done. I have the books but decided to wait at least until GRRM announces Winds of Winter to pick them up again (because that could be tomorrow or 5 years from now) and I'm hoping with all my heart that he realizes he is not that young and focus on finishing it. Bran the builder, children of the forest, Azor Ahai and his wife Nessa Nessa I wanted to watch that the list goes on. They messed up by just focusing on the targeryans even though interesting as they may be but even before the Targeryans there was the Empire of The Dawn which was the greatest empire known in the saga that we have no real knowledge of.Whichh I am sure could have been touched on if they did Age of Heroes.

I really love GRRM and I am ready to wait for WoW. I personally think that GRRM intentionally stopped bothering with winds because he wanted the show to be over before his last 2 books came out. That would allow him to slightly change some story arcs and plots when and where necessary, and even then there will be a % of those who would want to see a better ending of the series than in the tv shows, ensuring that his book sells off.
Besides, he hasn't released the WoW till now as he wants the backlash to die down a bit and then he would present us all with an amazing book. If he had rushed to complete WoW before s6 of the show i think it would not have been that great. I have faith in him as of now.

I first started in 2008 and I just put Winds at the back of my mind after GoT Season 5 and trained myself to just wait. Love the books, mostly love the show, didn't really mind the ending. I've seen worse endings and the hype leading up to major popular culture finales has had negative impact on how we view things that we enjoy. All these theories about endings and characters and stories warp people's mindset and when they don't get exactly what they imagined they do this odd thing and rage out on the internet. It's like people aren't allowed to just say if they enjoyed something a lot or didn't, there's no middle ground anymore. The authors or creators don't owe the audience anything in my opinion. But it has been a delight seeing people react to character deaths over the years. Great video. Keep it up.

Something had to happen between D&D and GRRM. It's odd how a book hasn't been released since the first season of GOT. I know GRRM has said publicly this is all lies(he's a professional what else can he say), but it makes no sense that he can write other books, and has said he's written more material than he can publish, but somehow ignores the actual series.
As for WoW, it appears it will definitely come out in the next 12-24 months, but it's also peculiar that he only seems to be making progress because he's locked away in a cabin somewhere because of the pandemic.
We'll have to see what happens after WoW. I doubt he's going to dive into A Dream Of Spring right after Winds of Winter. That would really be the only way I see him finishing the series. He's going to be 72 in Sept and likely 73 when the 6th book drops. It's hard for most of us to imagine he'll finish the books at this rate.

I personally don't understand why people are so shocked about the series taking long to finish. Pretty much every big fantasy series like this has taken ages to complete. It took Tolkien twelve years to write the Lord of the Rings. Asoiaf is the size of several LotR trilogies so imagine the complexity of such an undertaking. Just take one pov from Asoiaf and it could be it's own full length novel. So I have to say that my sympathy is all with Martin in this regard. I would rather wait for a well written novel than have him rush out something half arsed and it seems from interviews I have seen and read he has the same mindset.

Thank you! Those that complain about why it’s taking Martin to finish the series are NOT fantasy fans really and more fans of the TV series. Quality over quantity everytime. You don’t pressure writers to finish books/series for selfish reasons. Real fantasy fans know that fantasy series take years to wrap up. I do understand the love for the books and wanting to know how the author ends a project as massive as this series became, but patience people. Im more likely in the minority here, but I do believe WoW will be released, im not sure about a dream of spring, but if he released them back to back in time then it’s possible. Just my thoughts.

I could talk about this forever, I'll try to keep this as short as possible. First, I think George has lost interest that's why it's taking so long. Yes he is slow but he has published hundreds of thousands maybe even over a million words since dance came out, if you count screen writing. Hes doing other things. Why? Because you do what you enjoy. I believe that hes currently working on winds, finally, but doesnt have the passion driving him as much as it once did. Next, I dont want anymore shows in this world. Like you said there is so many other amazing stories out there. I still have an itch to read winds, but that thought turns into dream of spring. I would place bets for large amounts of money saying dream wont be published while George is alive. So that ruins my anticipation. I'm just in waiting mode. I want them to kill the shows and everything before this becomes a harry potter/fantastic beasts/cursed child debacle. Leave this story to be finished by the next two books, go down in history as one of the best stories ever told and leave it at that.

Love it. You're spot on. Refreshing opinions, do more on George's failure! He's truly never going to end it, so all the foreshadowing was a total waste of filler. He is deluded if he thinks itssatisfying reading 70000 pages of descriptions of dresses, jewels, trees, couches, food, snow, random objects etc (most of the books is window dressing, but it's so detailed and not needed, and cause the characters are so numerous, uts even WORSE cause he has to explain the outfit and hair of every character in every scene... Then they have a quick dialogue then the next chapter the new outfit is described etc and it's just like GET ON WITH A PLOT ALREADY. you can't be inserting so much filler but also so many characters that are all Underutilized anyway! It's like pick one, cause the plot is going so slow, and it's so obvious why!! He must have to rewrite that stuff, too, which is dumb cause he should figure out the plot before wasting time writing all the descriptions, only to change a minor character journey choice or action, then does he have to rewrite the NEW DESCRIPTIONS, too?? Or dies he realise 'ok before I sit down and get absorbed into the layout of the palace /cerseis clothes and carpet design etc, I should make sure I want to stick with this plot.. ' hsles likelyd tired cause of the time WASTED writing the descriptions. The plot can be sorted out easily. In facts, fans have done great jobs, even CZcams videos of the ending they made up are brilliant - just use one of those! Like Hello the works done for you, George! But it's obviously the logged down with the descriptions! But that's his own fault and not an excuse cause I don't even want that crap, anyway! It clearly takes energy and time from the STORY. it's actually insane how long the descriptions of the forest in book 5, are. It takes 5 pages of theon looking at the wintery wood before the Ramsay marriage, then boom, chapter over. It was all looking at the trees and thinking of boring stuff, rather than the pace of what's actually happening, no action, no plot development (well, very little for the time it takes.. ) now times that by 50 and thats the book. It's full of shite like that. And worse, it ends on a cliffhanger.. no, make that 5 or so.. . It's just awful.
He should have been a set designer or costume designer! Lol. Not even kidding. It's just absurd!!
Unprofessional is an understatement. He should just cut the crap and the fat and write the plot. It's not too convoluted that you can't finish it in 20 years... It's not the Manhattan project or something. He's not some genius beyond us, people literally write better books all the time. Fans write better endings. He's not Stephen Hawking. I can't stand George's ego and 'oh it's just too intelligent and intense you fans don't get it!" Ugh yes we do! It's a FICTION STORY. you're just too daft to finish it, George, it's not too complex, only over blown and needlessly bloated, that's what it is! That's not complexity, that's total disorganisation and lack of focus. At least admit that, but no, he lacks all self awareness . It's so eàsily solved, George. People accomplish harder tasks all the time, get over yourself, George! And now it won't matter anyway cause No ending is worse than an ending...
Why don't people tell him This to his face?! Hello, problem solved! fans already gave you ideas, and stop with the stupid set window dressing and cut out new characters we already have too many and need to wrap up the plots you already started! At least finish one story, before you start another, and finish at least one character arc rather than none! Damn it. .. he has too much going at once, which slows it all down EVEN MORE. He doesn't need all these povs. The world building is just over the top. I have an imagination, dude, I know what a forest looks like just get on with the character plot end dialogue, that's the authors job, not to describe what the fashion of Westeros is!
