Sorry for the long delay Cartoon Kids, the Jester Bros are finally here after great adventures attending the Washington State Summer Con (Video Coverage coming soon) and it is time to close out the cliff-hanger that we ended on. TIME FOR JAILBREAK! This is Stephen Universe Season 1 Episode 51 and Season 2 Episode 1 canonically - so yes - THIS IS THE SEASON 1 FINALE!!! HBO messed us up note on episode order below but the important thing is that we're back, we have videos already edited and in the tank, and its time to resume accordingly. Enjoy the Jester Bros experience these dynamic episodes!
IMPORTANT EPISODE LIST NOTE*
For the remainder of season 1 and slightly after, the order of episodes we recorded was weird. HBO Max (or "Max" as the kids say) listed the episodes in order of release date, not canonical order. Because of this, the episodes that are titled are in order of release date - not in order of cannon. We weren't expecting the streaming service to have a wonky order and would have preferred to cover the episodes canonically, but we're here and at least watching the episodes the way fans would have seen them as they aired.

22:32 I never noticed before, but Steven's bruised eye - the physical representation of the trauma he's experienced - disappears as soon as he accepts that Connie is going to help support him.
*SPOILERS FOR LATER STEVEN UNIVERSE CONTENT BELOW*
This could easily be a visual continuity error but I like to think of it as Steven’s body literally healing quicker due to his emotions. We do know that the bodies of ordinary gems are heavily tied to their mental state and, as shown in Future, Steven himself is no exception.
Lapis is my favorite gem. The way the show uses her to convey some pretty mature themes in this show is honestly amazing.
Everytime i hear Garnet's "Oh Steven, WE already love you" tears me up with such happiness. 😢😂

anyoen else find it kinda sad seeing how excited they got for what they think is the finale knowing that after watching these episodes they had to find out "oh.. we already watched the finale"
I love how they don't just immediately see jasper as the horrible person because it was horrible on both sides

"Now [Greg's] pretending he's fine, the cycle keeps going" Yeah, but there's a difference between a friend confiding in a friend and a parent confiding in a child, especially when the child went through it all and more. Greg's worry is what caused Steven to shut out Connie, so it's actually mature to me that Greg went off and worked his own worry out of his system so he could be there for Steven without letting his own feelings cloud his responses.
I do love how each gem have their own weapon they use. Plus a helmet for a hard headed blunt gem of jasper is nice.
Sapphires and rubies are both gem varieties of the mineral corundum. The only difference between the two is that rubies are colored red by the presence of minute impurities made of chromium and sapphires are turned blue (and some other hues) by the presence of titanium and iron. There are colored sapphires too.
Bonus fun fact about Lapis and Jasper's fusion. It does include the name of their fusion though, so it'll be down below. Loved the reaction and I hope to see more either way!
Malachite is a naturally toxic mineral/gemstone when in contact with water, which is directly referenced in their toxic relationship together. There's tons of other niche mineral and gemstone info stuff that comes from both actual properties of the gemstones and the natural crystal healing descriptions (Like Rose Quartz being linked to healing in that community).
Alec had a whole field day with this and his theories all along and I AM LIVING FOR ITT 😄😄😂!!!
Stronger Than You (Garnet's song) is the inspiration for a bunch of Undertale songs. I'm glad I listened to the OG first.
This was the first episode of Steven Universe I bothered to sit down and watch and the one that made it my favorite series

I did like the reveal of Garnet being a fusion but I didn't like that Ruby seemed to put keeping Steven safe second to finding Sapphire. Like I get that they had to make it seem like this was a new gem but I feel like Ruby would at least drag Steven's hand along while she looked until he let go himself. Also the stimming at the reveal 😭😭
Ngl as an autistic person who's a hard repressor around anyone I live for that kind of thing, like it's nice to see two people comfortable enough around each other that they can just do that. Just a minor thing, but it brings me a lil joy is all.
It highlights how dependant they're about each other and how theyre so used to being close they cant stay separated + Ruby's in an urgent situation
Remember ''i can't see'' without being Garnet she cant fight Jasper, she cant see the future and she cant save all those ppl close to her
Top priority was to be Garnet again as soon as possible or they'd be driven to homeworld and likely be shattered
@@sanji_joestar I get that they're very dependent on each other but it just felt like they were making Ruby out to be someone who didn't actually care about anyone besides Sapphire and that Sapphire was the part of Garnet that truly cared about Steven. When Ruby escaped, she ran off without Steven and also replied "don't know, don't care" when he asked how many other gems were there. When Sapphire escaped she thanked Steven and took him to find Ruby. I get that Ruby's an impatient hothead but they definitely showed later on she cared about Steven whilst keeping her personality so I just didn't really like this introduction to her character.
About Ruby not being able to see the future, I think she would've been more inclined to keep Steven close if she was written with the intention that she was finding Sapphire to protect him. That way if they ran into Jasper, Steven could at least escape somewhere while Ruby held her off or even sacrificed herself for him. There'd be no point in letting him possibly get killed by Jasper before even being able to form Garnet

Fun Gem Fact: Jasper and Lazuli fusion is called Malachite which when dropped in water causes the water to be come extremely toxic; a fun little nod at how they are bad they are for each other
Jasper and lapis fusion is supposed to represent an abusive relationship and they nail it pretty well
this was such a fun reaction. so much information came to light and i totally understand Lu fighting to hold stuff back, SO MANY HINTS TO FUTURE EPISODES! can’t wait for s2 reactions!

This is Literally. My favorite season finale EVER. Stronger Than You is iconic, from the synchronized fighting to Garnet's diss track of Jasper to EVERYTHING and that's not even the only stand out moment from this episode????? Garnet's plot twist, which had been foreshadowed so quietly but so plainly, is the entire reason I got into this show in the first place. And then you think it's over, but there's MORE because then Jasper and Lapis FUSE and even THAT would be enough but then Lapis TURNS ON JASPER LIKE THAT and it's such a SHOCK just like EVERYTHING ELSE IN THIS EPISODE and somehow they managed to pack all this into a SINGE TEN MINUTE EPISODE????????????????????????????? HOW?!?!?!?!?!?
And then to follow it up with Full Disclosure, which is so raw and poignant and beautiful. I love how they explore Steven's reaction to all this. How realistic it all feels. It's painful. The way he's trying so hard to be serious it would be cute if it weren't so sad (the way he can't say vestiges right, for example). And then to see that moment when he breaks down in front of Connie....I just want to hug him. And I'm so glad they kept it in character for him instead of finding some reason for him to tell her no with finality just to draw out the drama too. It all felt so organic and wonderful. What a banger of a season finale. Absolutely wonderful.
This episode basically broke the taboo of showing same-sex couples on children's cartoons in the US. After The Legend of Korra had to just imply it in the series finale, here they make it extremely obvious.
So excited that you all got to this episode. Looking forward to the reactions in Season 2's twists and turns.

I know you were just joking but I just want to be clear that what Greg did was very different from what Steven was trying to do with Connie, or I guess I should say Greg was doing the healthy version of what Steven was trying to do. Greg wasn't going to burden his son with his breakdown so he reaffirmed Steven that he loved and supported him and then he had to have some alone time to decompress and have his breakdown. And when he came back he didn't pretend like nothing was wrong, his exact words were he got it out of his system and now he could be Stephens cool dad again. He wasn't pretending the situation didn't stress him out he was just letting Steven know that it wasn't enough to keep him from being his father and being there for him. I would argue that is the responsible thing for a parent to do, take care of your emotional needs but make sure your child knows they still come first.

The better two gems fit together the more person like their fusion gets. Garnet could easily pass a a a not fuision but Malachite (Lapis and Jasper) are a beast. They don't even have a seperate voice. It's just both of theirs layered and you can even tell who is in control when
that's not actually canon, it's just a heavily accepted misconception across the fandom. fusions are just designed based on the rule of cool
