- Kaimai Huts: After three attempts and a year, later Graham & I find the private Puketutu Hut. We party overnight to "Pop Muzik" to celebrate the completion of four of "The Forgotten Five" Kaimai NZFS Huts. Upper North Wairere and Wairere Falls are visited.
Further details and Chapters are below...
A New Segment to the Channel.
Watch through to the end for the HIGHS & LOWS of each of my New Zealand Hiking Adventures or Wild Camps. Puketutu is a private hut & so permission is required to stay, a online search will find those contact details.
If my last video "Kaimai Huts - Mangamuka" didn't get you smiling, then hopefully this one will as we repair the hut radio, turn up the 80s beats, and enjoy a fun night assisted with a little bit of liquid courage.
If you are looking for a staunch bushman then this is not for you, however, if lighthearted, unscripted, good old fashion kiwi banter and engaging stories are your jam, infused with history and helpful tramping hints then please consider joining this community as we grow this channel together with your FREE subscription!

âOutdoor disco Daveâ has a nice ring to it!
Hi Greg, Disco Dave does has a ring but actually itâs more Pop. Pop Muzik by M was big in my day around the late 1970s. It still gets me bopping đ
Very rustic! That's a very robust looking stove btw. Great video Mr Dave.
Hey Josh, yeah, I thought you'd like that stove, thanks for stopping by again. Do you stay at backcountry huts yourself much?
@@OutdoorsmanDave I do indeed, fairly often. I probably had 200 videos of trips similar to your's, but I removed most of them, as the video and audio quality was poor, or they had copyrighted content (from back before YT started enforcing this stuff). The nice thing is that I have a huge content library to pull from, and can make short videos quickly / easily using that material.
@@JoshuaJohnsonOutdoors interesting
Thanks for the video Dave, keep them coming
Youâre most welcome, the fifth and final is calendared.
Love that track, it's been years since I've done it
Yes, the falls are stunning, thanks for watching
Nice one! Loved the backcountry disco.
Backcountry disco 𤣠love it.
Great stuff, that toilet seen some tough times.
Yeah, it was crap đŠ the smell hit you on opening the door. Thanks for watching đ
Hmmm you guys had too much to drink? 𤣠Love the waterfall. Really nice scenery.
Barry, Iâm constantly hydrating when on hikes đ
Wicked Dave!!
Thanks for the vid
Sorry it that Wicked Dave as in good stuff or Wicked Dave in terms of naughty boy đ
Haha, good stuff Dave of course!
Great video! That hut looks mission, the late night tunes scene was a laugh.
~churr
Thanks for being the first to watch and comment, yes we had a great time. Only one more hut to go.
Cool trip. Looked like a lot of fun. Water fall was nice to see
Thanks Abel, we have a few redeeming features in middle earth, not like them incredible mountains you have though in Mordor đ
If not a can crusher, maybe some sorta medieval torture device?
Yeah, for those trampers without permission, caught by the hunters đą
Thanks, Iâm guessing the falls arenât your normal gentle video.
Is that hut haunted? Ghosts changing stations in the night. Spooky! Great video, looked like fun.
Gosh that never crossed my mind đą Yeah it was a fun night đĽ
Great vid Dave.
Thanks Jarrod, will you likely visit any of these huts or falls yourself?
@@OutdoorsmanDave We camped at Te Whare Okioki last summer and visited the falls from the base. I'm itching to get back to the falls, hike up and camp somewhere at the top. Dreams of the summer to come. đ
Send me a FB invite to outdoorsman dave and stay in touch, Iâll be up that way again this year.
We finally found it, this was our third attempt so there's a good reason to celebrate & justify the hut antics đ
Hey outdoorsmanDave have you thought about doing a video on the mysterious kaimanawa wall?
Yes, but itâs been done recently and not everyone encourages freedom of speech. If you would DM me your views or intel on it, Iâll build a case đ¤
Cool stuff and a cool hut! Surely youâve visited every one in the Kaimaiâs?
All but one, some visited but not recorded, though there are a few more hunters huts yet to uncover.
Cool
Thanks Dave.
@@OutdoorsmanDave My pleasure
As a moka pot fan, Iâve never tried taking one hiking with me but seen others do it. Wondering what I can sacrifice weight-wise to make one viable.
Perk coffee is the best, wait and see what new wee gem Iâll use to make the perfect short black. Be sure to hit that flag now.
Smashed it for ya
If the water is low enough at wairere falls you can cross over and sit on ledge at the edge of the waterfall if your daring enough
It was discussed, but then again, it mightâve been the last discussion had đ
How can you stay so skinny while eating that much porridge ? That was enough to feed a tribe of kids. đ
Flattery, will get you everywhere Simon.
Truth is, I donât eat a lot during the day on hikes, so a big carbs breakfast sustains me.
