The main part of identifying the urethra hole is not explain.. The hand should be cleaned before handing the catheter and insertion. Preparing the gel on catheter beforehand is not advisable because that's being inserted and infection must be prevented.
Why no lidocaine? Even though the female urethra is shorter it still hurts, plus females are given the larger caths. I have Intersistial Cystitis, causing a lot of urethral pain and I'm not the only one. I think that's something that should be asked by the person administering the catheter. Lidocaine only helps so much I know, but still better than nothing.
@@medicifyisn’t during the procedure a bit late to run to the doctor for a lidocaine order? Wouldn’t it be better to as the doctor to approve lidocaine before the procedure?
This would be done to prevent any urinary discharge on the bed, just incase. If there is any discharge or error and there is no bag to hold it, then it would contaminate the field even more.
@@medicify thanks. I totally don't agree. I would say unless the folly is inserted no chance the urine to come out. Once that happened we really don't worry about the sterility of the field . We are more concerned about the invasive supplies. If you touch the urine bag with sterile gloves the integrity of the field isn't maintained. I would choose to hang the bag first. Then connect after insertion. Even we can put the folly in the sterile tray .it has no use any more.
You can explore your options for sure, however you do need a lot of passion and will power to push through Med School, despite what other people say it is extremelyyy difficult and will drain your mental health, so yes before you take a permanent interest in medical, please do your research, speak to other medical students, explore other options and then if you really want it, go for it.
I agree women should have the lidocaine as well. Every time I’ve be catheterized for surgery they did it after I was put under for which I’m grateful.

Is it painful?
No
Invasive and humiliating and most of all, UNESSESARY for surgeries less than 3 hours, which mine was.😡😡😡😡😡
I pray to Allah i never need this. Couldn't get mysely to see video. I am sure it's painful.
More like uncomfortable, but yes I understand. In Sha Allah you won’t need it.
They could have had a closer shot on the mannequin during both cleaning and insertion.
