Here, in mid 2023, more than 10 years later, this game still is as good as the first day, I honestly would give a lot to play this game for the first time again. Andreas, James and every other person that is behind TeamPsykskallar, thank you. My deepest thank you.
Living in Stockholm, being able to deeply relate to Simons situation and having a very strong interest in depressing vibes and digital world creation, this is probably the game that affected me the most- in the most positive way possible. Tack team psykskallar
Cry Of Fear marked me so much in my childhood that it made me fall in love with Stockholm and one of my dreams is to go there, to look specifically for the places where COF was based, apart from the fact that I've been watching videos of Sweden for years and it's a beautiful country, I will fulfil my dream one day, before I'm 30s I'm sure I will.

Yeah, real locations in Sweden. If you notice in game words on building are sometimes written in Sweden.
It's awesome how some locations looks exactly like their game counterpart. The mappers did a great job
+Max le Fou (ButtBadger) Totally, I really felt like I was in Stockholm when I played it and it has many unique locations. The 'old town' area looks a lot like real life 'old town' of Stockholm. And the residential areas where Simon lives look very true to real life.

Its really refreshing to see depression so accuratly reperesented in any peice of media, and as someone who has and still does struggle with it from time to time, seeing it so accurately reperesented without romanticizing is something worth congratulating. This game does such a fantastic job working with atmosphere and metaphors, every small detail and peice of dedication put into this game absolutley stuns me. Its almost 2024 and people are still talking about this masterpeice. Everyone behind TeamPsykskallar, thank you so much for this phenomenally well crafted peice of art! It has not only influenced horror as a genre, but also pushes for the very important conversation regarding mental health, even 11 years after its release, and that says a lot!

I think that the atmosphere of depression and hopelessness in this game is conveyed in an ideal way. Yes, the game is already 10 years old, but it still remains the best horror in my memory. Thanks to the TeamPsykskallar team for a good horror game!!!!

I can't believe I just found this game, Im in love with it. When I was diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and an eating disorder earlier on in life, I was ruined. I had almost taken my life multiple times, but this game healed that in me. Im already loving life and living so much better and I can't thank the creator enough for this game. I feel healed. At peace. Like I got some closure with this game. Thank you!
I wanna meet Simon’s voice actor and just thank him for the way he portrayed Simon, as well as the game makers. I’ve had similar thoughts to Simon as how I see myself, and the things I think I have to do. But seeing that you had to fight the most for a good ending makes me want to fight too.

Update: This is old comment, what i meant good weapons model is the pov, player view. How simon carry his weapon , but ever since i got attached to the game i dont mind it anymore

Dude, the weapon models, and sounds are the best you can get (the FAMAS and MP5 look a bit strange especially when you shoot, but fuck it) considering this is a HALF LIFE 1 MOD. They can change the monster sprites, environment and so on, but the guns should be kept like they are.

Low standards? That doesn't have to do anything with that. This is all opinion based. For example, to me it's one of the best survival horror games as well, because this game managed to make me feel with the main character, what only very few games were able to do. I read about the story and all of the endings you could get, and it's a really sad but awesome and well made story. Sure it's a very aged gameplay and graphic, since it's a Half-Life 1 mod, but not only graphic matters.

TeamPsykskallar, I just finished the game yesterday for the first time, because I was too scared to finish it before. Thank you SO MUCH for this incredibly powerful experience, as someone who has gone through a ton of mental problems due to illness, this really spoke on a personal level. This game was an experience I won't forget. Best horror game i have ever played, you are legends 🔥🔥
10 years on and this is still one of the best horror games ever made. Something truly unique and special was acheived here. I just finished a developer commentary run and it's only deepened my fascination and love for this mod. Thank you team psyskaller. I'm totally buying one of those hoodies. The rank screen isn't appearing when the game ends any more due to a bug which is sad. I would love to go for an S rank and unlock simons book. Last unlock I need

i used to lost in streets of Kiev at night...felt same as lonely Simon,can't find way home for hour my phone was dead so i looked for familliar places or some metro to get back home.
In the end, there is a little Simon inside each of us.

Thats really impressive how such enviroment and interiors are implemented and re-created in Cry of Fear, and how old GoldSrc engine is, makes it really beautiful and realistic comparing to real life scales, which is around 1:1 to real Stockholm. That game gave me alot of memories, and emotions, it could be horrible and terrifying in singleplayer, puzzles and mazes, but messy and funny in multiplayer, which is unloading all those emotions from singleplayer mode. Ambients is something really god made, and the music, it sounds heavenly. And this is for free, explore, get scared, enjoy, and play.
Still come back to this and find it absolutely mindblowing that I can recall the levels from the game by looking at this. Genuinely mindblowing.

I am sure that after another 10 years, I will not remember a single time about the game that gave me vivid impressions. The game managed to give me an idea of how people suffering from depression feel in the world around them.
I remember seeing this game back in 2013 when it came out. I always loved how it looked and wanted to play it. Only now I've come around to playing it, mainly for the Co-OP aspect, but the single player is awesome! I've gotten really attached to Simon as a character, and I'm trying to do a second play though now, just to give him the "good ending" if you could call it that. I'd love to see many more Cry of Fear type games, I think the format could be really great for more awesome stories and characters. I hope the devs are still making stuff behind the scenes, that'd be awesome!

Something funny I noticed about one of the building textures. You can see the reflexion of the buildings across the street and it's clearly day. Probably just an oversight but I'd recommend changing that specific texture. I just saw it really weird seeing the reflexion of buildings on a sunlit window in the middle of night.

Well no, though andreas did want to make a remake of Afraid of Monsters on UE4 with fans but dropped the project. Though rn i am making a game also on Unreal 4 that is inspired by cry of fear. Dont expect anything soon tho because i am the only person working on a project that is huge and still learning how to code on u4

Look, everyone else's comment is from a while back, but I have many things to say about this game. Hoping the devs see this!
1. The Story
10/10. I can't relate it to anything. The joy, but also fear whenever I start on a new save, I just... I can't describe it. The story is amazing, and I can't really say anything without spoiling, so.. yeah. If you haven't already, PLAY THE GAME!
2. The Spooks
They aren't cheesy or forced, they're given at very good intervals throughout the game, and, not to mention the whole concept of the game is beautifully disturbing. The way Simon breathes after losing his stamina is just... scarily real for the game's time. Whoever the VA was, good fucking job.
3. The Atmosphere
Holy. Fucking. SHIT. The intro scene into the game has to be one of the most relatable I've ever witnessed. The devs set the scene perfectly. The composer for the music did a fantastic job. I can't explain what it felt like the first time I watched it. It just sets the tone so perfectly. Good job.
Unfortunately, that's all I feel like writing. There are so many other great parts of this game, but writing that would take hours, and well... even though I've spent hours on the game, I don't think I can spend as long complimenting and praising it. If the devs do see this, let me say... thank you.
