FAQ:
1) Why is there silence at the "Carcass is simon's fault"
A: I was rushing the video at one point and i forgot to take out that part of the video, i didnt have the voice clip for the video and just wanted to upload the video
2) Why is there a longer black screen at 14:47-15:02?
A: I accidentally made the same entry about the what year cof takes place in and only realised it near the end of the video.
3) You sound like simon
A: Yes.

I feel like "Simon is an addict" refers to the painkillers he is on rather than his antidepressants, considering the morphine he uses in-game. Simon being on strong painkillers after his accident is more than likely.
that could be possible, but aside from him using morphine while in the book world and the 5th ending where he takes david's pills (which is not canon) there really isn't anything that would hint at it. There's just way more clues pointing at the antidepressants
@@Errorrdr I don't doubt that he's addicted to his antidepressants, painkillers just seem a lot more likely since I'm not super aware of antidepressants that can be addictive that are prescribed in my country. I have a friend who's paraplegic due to an accident and they need pain management for the muscle spasms they get- afaik before they got a medical marijuana card they were on strong painkillers.
I feel like Simon wouldn't include morphine in the book world if it didn't have some kind of relevancy to his real life after the black day. Maybe he avoided mentioning the antidepressants because they made him feel weak or pathetic for needing them, but if he was addicted to those rather than morphine the player would use those to heal instead.
At the end of the day it's a lot of speculating bit IMO that's what makes the game and it's community fun for me. Oh and I shouldve mentioned this before but nice video, it's always good to see new CoF/AoM content :)
Yeah, I agree. I thought Simon was struggling with his need for certain drugs because of the pain in the aftermath of the car crash. This whole game has both a bunch of cool details as well as silliness.
@@Errorrdr antidepressants are not addictive as they are not psychoactive wtf are u talking about learn pharmacology
Loving the atmosphere of this vid - broken English in the iceberg, competent video editing, uncropped pauses and lightly janky edits, all made by a genuine fan of the game, it makes for a very cozy watch. I love genuine videos like this, thanks for keeping it around

Can't we all agree that Cry of Fear soundtrack all hit hard asf
So there are people confused about the story:
The game starts with Simon being hit by a car and becoming paraplegic. The game then tells a story he writes during his mental therapy of the hatred and depression inside him. It touches on two big points: Sophie abandoning him, and his struggle to trust his mentor Dr. Purnell. In Sophie's scene of suicide, it is most commonly perceived as her abandoning Simon. When the Carcass boss appears, it is a newfound anger and bitterness towards her. You can fight the carcass or run away, and it's one of the most difficult battles you encounter because of how hard it is to get over that resentment. In a second point, You are faced with a choice, to get Dr. Purnell a gun. The gun signifies trust, and the degree of difficulty one must go through to get that gun is symbolic of the difficulty of trust. The Doctor then shoots him, showing the realities of his errors, and Simon fights that lashback (the doctor himself). These two determiners lead to 4 endings:
Do not fight Carcass, Do not give Doctor a gun- Plagued by depression, abandonment, anxiety, and so on, Simon kills Sophie and Dr. Purnell in reality, just before killing himself. He failed to trust his mentor and never forgave Sophie, leading to a downward spiral that ended all their lives.
Fight Carcass, Do not give Doctor a gun- Simon forgives Sophie and moves on, but thinks his mentor cares nothing of him. Seeing no hope in recovery and hating his mentor, he ends his life and takes his mentor with him.
Do not fight Carcass, Give Doctor a gun- Simon is gratuitous for his mentors help, and is very sorry to admit that he could not be saved from himself. He decided suicide was his only option, and by not forgiving Sophie, he forced her to be with him forever in afterlife, in case there is one.
Fight Carcass, Give Doctor a gun- Simon is largely cured of his mental issues, or at least can cope with them, and therefore trusts his mentor and forgives Sophie. However, in the psychotic climax of finishing his book for recovery that leads to every ending, he kills two policeman (not completely explained of their presence, but it is assumed that they suspected he needed to be checked on for suicidal or homicidal tendencies). This manslaughter which he accidentally caused while defeating his corrupted side (the final boss) was actually the murder of the two policemen, sending him to a mental hospital. He lives the rest of his days peacefully there.
Co-Op- It is assumed the book Simon wrote had supernatural powers and unleashed the demonic creatures found in the campaign to be a reality. The officers must go backwards through the book to prevent his car accident in reality, erasing the monsters from existence. Simon was then never paralyzed in reality.
Doctor Mode- It is, again, assumed the book Simon wrote had supernatural powers, And the Doctor must take matters into his own hands and fight through Simon's twisted mind to finally reach and destroy the book, removing the monsters from existence. It is unclear what happens to Simon.
Survival Mode Success- Simon overthrows his psychosis and resists suicide.
Survival Mode Fail- Simon succumbs to his psychosis and kills himself.
That's pretty interesting, I used to think that the doctor mode was some sortta metaphor for Purnell trying to 'infiltrate' his twisted thoughts and find a way to reverse them (therapy, medications, changing Simon's mind on writing the book etc.) And thought failing doc mode led Simon to refuse to get any help and would let him keep on writing his book

Last night I was wondering if someone was going to make an iceberg on Cry of Fear.......Nice.
actually somebody beat me to this idea but the video is in russian so i kept making it, if you look up cry of fear iceberg you`ll see one in russian but i didn't copy them because i asked the OP if i can make a video based off of the iceberg a week before he uploaded the video, he just managed to make the video a lot quicker than i did, he also made it in parts while i made the entire thing at once
@@Errorrdr I saw that video from russian guy, he deleted all hes videos after some time for unknown reason (at least for me).

Actually Simon does take anti-depressants, and on the first ending he was probably getting the same vision as David. David was also an addict, anti-depressants have side effects including hallucinations. The first ending is pretty much a homage to AoM.
Edit(things i forgot to mention): Ending 5 with David is a joke ending, as for the organism, that's an asset from Paranoia, another really great HL1 mod.
David Leatherhoff was not addicted to Antidepressants though, he was addicted to a PCP like drug, most likely strong painkillers which also made him hallucinate.
@@ethhics well those can also be used for depression, and him standing in the hospital, they must've been prescribed, either way they were the cause of hallucinations.
I have an addition to this iceberg
When you getting the fuse from the college, one of the classrooms has a map of the Earth. The thing is, the whole map is flipped. So maybe in the Cry of Fear universe the Earth is flipped around. But I think that was just a mistake on the dev’s part.
@Win_tosh lol maybe 🤔
I had a high school teacher that had a map like that in her class. She said it was like that because "the world's orientation is a matter of perspective."
Maybe his whole world was turned upside down.
im still so impressed at the efforts the team went through to make this game, it truly is a masterpiece
yeah until the code shatters itself and the game becomes unstable all over the place
its too clear you havent played the game
@oofsong9496 cry of fear is my favorite horror game, I've played through it all almost a dozen times and I've never seen any game breaking glitches that make it unplayable. I'm not saying that the game is polished to perfection, because they're are issues with it that take you out of the experience, but you also have to cut them some slack because it's an indie game from 2012 made in an old engine that you didn't even pay money to play.

Im a knife collector and I remember for years trying to research what knife you got at the start that the devs scanned and used. Never found out but was my big investment next to the journey of getting better at the game lol
Im in a massive knowledge rabbit hole for Cry of fear
do you post your knife collection somewhere? I'd love to see
Tried figuring it out as well. All I heard was that it was some "cheap gas station knife"
if im not wrong its a folding blade
I saw someplace, probably reddit, that the knife resembles the Sanrenmu 9001
love the game, love the creator's way of expressing the history, and i absolutely love the fact that there is still people talking about this game like 10 years later.
im glad people still care about cry of fear. its such an underrated game new sub.
At 24:46 I’m pretty sure that the thing on the table is how Simon felt after he got hit by the car, he pretty much felt like a lump of meat since he lost his legs.
I can't believe I've only just found this video. CoF is one of my favourite games of all time so am always happy to see the community alive
My personal take on the Doctor and his Gasmask: The Doctor still has the gasmask because to Simon, he might want to seem trustworthy when everyone else seems like a monster, or everyone else wants to hurt him/judge him. He may have killed innocents, but I believe those innocents may have represented Simon's mistrust towards Purnell, and justifies it to us, the player, by showing the Doctor how Simon sees him. Malevolent.
Wow great vid!!! I can tell you put a lot of work on editing and the theories
Love this video, Cry of Fear has been my favorite indie horror video game for quite a while now
Never thought someone would actually do an iceberg for Cry of Fear but hey I wouldn't complain. Love seeing icebergs about the games I like
gotta love how you can hear relaxing music from 14:47-15:05 only to be interrupted by the burning question
"𝚆 𝚑 𝚊 𝚝 𝚈 𝚎 𝚊 𝚛?"
Yeah that was a fuck up in editing lol
Had no idea Cry of Fear had a fandom big enough to make a whole iceberg. Is cool to see though.
It's not really the fandom that makes the iceberg what it is, its the game itself. Like there is barely any stuff related to the fandom of the game and more of secrets in the game and the development of it and etc.
thank you for putting so much time and effort into your video. i really enjoyed watching it and loved the passion you have for the game. keep it up ^^
Wow man this video is amazing! I finished the game literally yesterday and i'm glad to see that 12 years later the fandom is still alive. I searched for iceberg/lore videos and i'm happy yours popped up! Love your video btw!!💙
29:00 I think it’s referring to the ending where David hits Simon with his car.
I remember that some of my friends told me: "Hey man, you should definitely write a book", but knowing how destructive books can be I won't do that just yet. And also because if I was Book Simon I'd enjoy taking life from those foul creatures

22:54 I like the idea that some of the male characters or monsters in game represent his dad but due to deformity he just doesn't recognise them.
The guy who died in hotel in bloody bathtube, the first boss, the guy who shot himself with shotgun.
I especially like the idea that shotgun guy is metaphorically represent his dad but due to no head he doesn't comment on him(also metaphorically he maybe doesn't comment because he doesn't know or hates or forgotten his dad) also the fact you can smoke near that shotgun guy... Could it be implication that it's his dad who gave him this smoking habbit?
I just finished a playthrough of Cry of Fear and have been looking into it deeper to find out more.
Cry of Fear has a very interesting and deep story behind everything. The way that enemies represent things are a really neat touch (though I like the goofy names I gave them during my playthrough). It's kind of unfortunate to see some of the pieces aren't in the game anymore, such as the Stephano easter egg, but it doesn't take away the charm this game has.
For its time, this is among the better stories (and rabbit holes) I've seen. I actually felt genuine fear in certain parts and cheap jumpscares were few and far between. Discussing the game and how I interpreted things was the most enjoyable part of it all, especially seeing what I did and didn't get right when it was all done and over with.
Love this vid btw ^^
amazing video
This vid is really worth watching but i wonder Why ur so underrated?
Nice video bruh
the living organism is more of a ref of what simon felt lile on the operating table
Why was "carcass is Simon's fault" skipped? Wondering if its a dumb theory or common knowledge
I didn't have the voice lines for it and forgot to edit it out because near the end i was rushing the video a lot
@@Errorrdr oh ok, no prob :)
My guess its that he couldn't let go of the girl he liked so therefore the carcass was his fault as it represents her.
@@bigblue344 In my opinion Carcass is the way Simon sees himself in a mirror. Filthy and weak creature stuck in a chair (wheelchair), covered in chains. Simons desperation and anxiety made Sophie leave him, as well as Carcass made Sophie leave Simon in the Book World. Carcass is embodiment of all things that made Sophie reject Simon

Very cool video, I have followed this game on and off since it got released in 2012 and had no idea about some of these theories or facts. Pretty interesting what the fandom has come up with and which obscurities Andreas and his team has hidden in the game.
Idk about the presentation of this video though, there are editing errors and it sounds like you are fiddling with something during recording your lines.

911 call might be Simons legs getting removed from being crippled or somebodys legs getting removed due to amputation to remind Simon hes crippled while hes writing the book.

I played it in 2013 and yes even today i still come back to this game, specially for the Soundtrack...the way they describe depression is perfect, its living hell 4 someone who suffers from it...great mod with great story and Soundtrack
I really love watching this vid it's pretty good
very good video
About Simon’s father, it may be the most mysterious thing in the game. But I still got some theories:
-Simon’s father was never in his life, no mentioning of his parents physical appearance has been made and despite having a Scandinavian last name with a Hispanic appearance, and his mother so detached from her son’s situation and putting him away from the house, it may be a sign that Simon was adopted and unloved. That could partially explain his depression at the beginning and the feeling of being abandoned.
-His parents could have got divorced at a very early age, his father gone before he was born or died before or shortly after Simon’s birth.
-Seems very unlikely but still astonishing, Simon always hated social contacts, has an attachment issue and an unexplained depression even before he got the accident. He was also very protective towards Sophie because she seemed fragile and bullied. He also couldn’t or refused to mention his father’s existence and gets very angry when talking about the accident and his past. And his despair about losing his legs and making him feel weak and useless are all clinical signs of early childhood trauma. The feeling of despair, weakness, uselessness, loving too much and deep hatred towards the rest of the society, agressive behaviors when talking about personal stuff, difficulty to express feelings and amnesia/denying his past and family figure could lead eventually to the fact that Simon’s father may have been sexually abusive towards his son. The fact that he was « never here » could also mean that he was arrested or removed from the Henriksson family. Finally, if you look closely at the bottom of the iceberg, there’s a topic about « Maniac Pedophile » where a man is seen beheading a person in a videotape and delivering a coded message. I don’t think the developers chose this title randomly, « Maniac Pedophile » could have a link with the exact nature of the abuse inflicted to Simon and the person that got beheaded in the videotape could be a metaphor of Simon definitely losing his mind after that. The coded message may be a cryptic crying for help and the importance of videotapes and photography in the game makes me think of how depraved his father could have been (Likely involved in a Hurtcore case.).
Whenever if these theories are true or not, it is undeniable that Simon’s mother was a toxic parent. She did little for Simon despite his suffering and doesn’t seem to care that much. In the recidivist scenario, Simon eventually got imprisoned after his arrest and the death of Dr Purnell. Again, no mention of his mother was made during his sentence or even in the bittersweet ending where he was put in a mental hospital. Meaning that she truly doesn’t give a fuck about Simon.
your pretty funny I gonna sub
I think what the reddit poster was trying to say about the psycho being a real maniac was the person in the video tape that cut off that person's head with the shears. Maybe, just maybe, Simon wrote that into the book because he felt as if there was an maniac or something living in the some apartment complex as he was.
Might explain Simon having a gun with him. He was paranoid before being suicidal.
I am glad I wasn't the only one that gave Simon some much needed drip
10:43 It's still in the game and affects near all enemies, just instead of instant kill it's just increased dmg
