Thank you for helping Tracy.
Thank you Tracey for being vulnerable and showing the internet your space!
💛
Tracy is so adorable and relatable. I felt like I was watching myself ❤
@@denisefrandsen5106I completely agree! I really appreciate seeing her journey of keeps for her favorites and favorite memories. Also, hearing “small progress” wins and Tracy’s “Yay!” moments.
I'm thinking if she bought a Polaroid camera and took a photo of all the pairs of shoes she could make an awesome memory book or just take pics and upload to have a book printed.
With cute outfits and a little caption on where she got them and her favorite memories of them!
The book will be titled "The Foot Book "😅
Could be. But its another project which takes time, space and holds back giving away things.
I'm an ex hoarder and stuff like this helps me. Also just holding onto memories of stuff and thanking it for its service like Marie kondo
Then donate a bunch
Good start! That's a big flea market pile 😊 One suggestion, be careful the art project doesn't become an excuse to keep things that should go. "Maybe" piles can get out of control.
I just followed the IG account. No posts yet, but I am looking forward to seeing her project unfold.... also, if I don't see any posts, I'll give her a little 'nudge' in the DM. 😉
The "art project" is a delusion and she is using it as an excuse to rehoard. She needs psychiatric intervention, not an organizer.
I have issues with overconsumption and, though I have clear floors and most surfaces, I can absolutely see myself falling into that mind set. It’s unreal how many times I’ve essentially said, I’m getting rid of that but I have to keep it first. 🙈
What an absolute sweetheart of a lady! I used to have over 100 pairs of shoes in my 20s, now as I approach my 50s, I'm probably down to about 20 and I'd be OK to let a few more go. Sometimes it takes a LOT of passes 😂😂🎉
Multiple passes 🫶🏻🙌🏻
I think I’m down to 25 or so. Worst part is I love them, but my feet no longer do!
Lady Laura! my heart (and feet) feel your pain...@@Nwladylaura369
Please give her a huge hug from this viewer, I am cheering her on and I know she’s in great hands 🙌
Will do 🙂
I was always able to let things go when someone constantly reminded me that they can be loved by someone who really needs them.
Tracey is AMAZING but we need to talk about her dog who sleeps through all that commotion! 🤣
Haha, the best of our unhelpful helpers :)
Every shoe has a memory or a story for her. It's like the book of her life that she wears on her feet and carries with her as she goes through her daily routines.
I’m suspicious that The Great Unhoard shoes are not going anywhere given how easily she puts them in that category. One solution is to make a memory book. I made a great little book about my husband‘s T-shirt collection. We took a photo of each T-shirt and told the story behind each one. As a result, he felt good about letting them go and he didn’t lose any of those precious memories of our kids’ swim meets, championships, travels and connections.
I've been helping a friend declutter once a week for about six months now. We're about to proceed into some very difficult territory. Your video gives me some idea about how to help her. Thank you both.
I hope it went well :)
That's really kind of you
With all the kindness and love in my heart, I am going to predict that the great unhoard boxes just a hoard box. I can literally feel that whenever she doesn’t wanna get rid of some thing she puts it in the box so hopefully it will just sit there for a year and then get tossed . I’m an artist and I have ADHD, and I would bet cash money because of all the things that I have saved for “future projects”. I am hoping it’s something like what another Declutter calls the deep freeze.. put it away for a year. See if you really need it back and then it will go.
Honestly and lovingly offered: NOT. HELPFUL. This is Tracy's journey, not yours to make an assessment!
Why don't people understand this?
Your perception is through YOUR FILTER.
She will do what she does and it has absolutely no effect on your life.
As a person who tends to let things pile up due to illness, ADHD, and depression, TRUST ME WHEN I SAY YOU HAVE NO CLUE.
So, wishing you the very best, and hoping to crack open a tiny spot for witnessing and accepting people in all stages of the process.
❤❤❤😊❤❤❤
I could never be that supportive and positive 😅 I guess getting frustrated doesn’t help but I can’t help it when I try help someone declutter and they keep more than their home can manage
I think April has a high level of emotional-intelligence and a deep respect for the differences in people. I think it's obvious she lives as she believes all would be happier - with just has much stuff as is required and loved and no more - but she always schools herself and controls her response to be able to help the person in their current state - not some dream reality where the person's already done four passes and is getting better at focusing in and targeting their dream space - but now - when they're overwhelmed and have no structure to work within to help themselves get where they distantly see they want to be. It's a talent, but you could work to get there - think of it just like a decluttering muscle - letting go of your frustration and anxiety with clutter to be able to help others 😊
@@DipitySperfect explanation 👏
so well said!@@DipityS
I agree. She’s just relocating the clutter.
It’s very hard to not take it personally. I was only able to unhoard after the people passed.
But on the plus side, some shoes left her house (I’m assuming), where before absolutely none have left her house in the last 20 years.
The unbothered little dog. ❤
Oh man, this was challenging for me to watch. So many shoes and only two feet... You can do this, Tracey! You've got April in your corner! 😊
My shoe genius said once Doc Martens thread rots or breaks, the whole shoe needs a rebuild. At that point it’s more cost effective to buy new. Yeah, you love ‘em, but do you want to be stuck in the middle of an airport or miles from anywhere with a blown out shoe?? My dude can make things look brand new, but when he says toss, I toss. I get it, Tracey. Got shoes older than some viewers 😳 You’re doing great 👍🏻
Dr Marten has a repair service, just fyi! Welter boots, non welted, sandals....they know how to fix their own items and make them last longer!
She has a cool, unique taste in shoes and I completely understand why it's hard for her to thin the collection down. She did a great job with the first pass of a category that's close to her heart!
It takes COURAGE to admit change is needed and to ask for help to make that change happen. So proud of you, Tracey, for not only reaching out but for letting us follow along.
I loved when you put all the similar shoes together!! Often people, especially adhd ppl, get excited about a type of shoe and buy the same shoes over and over without realising.
thanks to tracey for allowing us along this journey. i think starting is always a big step and i believe with the second and third pass the un-hording will become easier, however, so far the first pass is going really well!
I totally agree!
Tracy is an artistic soul!! People like us love to be surrounded with beautiful things. It's so hard for us to turn loose of our collections, we really are emotionally connected. She did great!
Tracy, I love that you remember where you've been through your shoe collection. Thank you for letting us share your latest journey.
Tracy, you're doing great! Just keep on going and do repeated passes through your stuff and you'll get where you want to be. I decluttered my place and it took a long time and many passes to get where I was comfortable. You can do this!
Hope you’re feeling lighter in your space 🙃
@TheSuitcaseDesigner For the first time in my adult life (I'm 54) I do!
February 2024. I have 3 pairs of shoes and 1 pair of flip-flops. Tina, Al's wife
You should watch A hoarder's heart chanel! It's a declutter chanel and the woman is a great educator and advocate for hoarders. I understood them way more after watching her. It might gives you tips on how to deal with hoarders clients. Plus she's just an all around sweet lady!
PLEASE keep us updated on Tracy’s “The Great Unhoard” project. I can’t wait to see it!
For someone who hates shoes and buying new shoes (because every pair seems to cut and hurt!) this collection blows my mind 😂 x
I love how you really consider your clients and how to motivate each person individually based on their personality. So compassionate.
This was so inspiring! I'm proud of both of you for persevering through an obviously sentimental collection. It was sooo worth it!
Can’t wait to tackle the clothes next 🫶🏻
A very important rule to helping someone declutter, is to not let them touch the item they're considering. Stand at a bit of a distance and let them decide. All retailers know one of the great keys to getting someone to buy their products is to get the customer to hold the item. That's when the connection begins.
I'm so glad we get to be apart of this journey! I believe no matter when someone decides to make a change, it should always be celebrated! Thank you Tracy for inviting us into your home and I wish you the best of luck! You did so well!
She did great for the first decluttering😮!!! That was a lot of progress. And I too love this idea of taking photo before letting go.
The dog wearing a sweater in the background is so cute ☺️❤
I scrapbook and “hoard” memories of daily life and of course travel…..Tracey has so many fantastic memories of her shoes…..take photos , get rid of the shoes and write down the memories.
You both did great! Well done Tracey for working through a hard task. I used to struggle to get rid of well loved shoes and clothes, even if they were falling apart, especially if they have memory attached, but then I discovered that if I took photos of them I felt I could throw their physical presence away as I had stored their emotional presence :D
Whoa - she sure has a lot of shoes. It's going to take a few passes going through each category to get it more manageable.
I tried to help someone like this, it was very difficult. She wanted to tell the story of each item as we sorted, she didn't understand the "quick sort" theory. She had 176 shirts on hangers, this didn't include All the shirts in 2 dressers that were full or ones in the laundry!
A 70+ man I know decided to thin out his short sleeved tshirts. He donated 75 of them. His wife says he still has 100+ that he isn't parting with.
I used to beat myself up for having more than I needed. At my worst, I never managed to get anywhere near having 175+ short sleeved tshirts.
I'm the "story for every item" kinda person and it makes cleaning and decluttering *so* hard! I can remember almost every receipt and piece of packaging and there's a story for everything. To combine that with the fact that I don't want to throw usable things away... Yeah, can't get rid of anything. Would love to learn how.
As an example, just today I ran across a cardboard sleeve for a chocolate bar in our burn pile. My mom brought that chocolate for me over 30 years ago, from Austria. Like, who keeps a chocolate wrapping for 30 years? And wants to rescue it from the trash? Apparently I do.
A tip from me I recently had to declutter a persons 30 year old clothing hoard. Clothes that are not used also need to be be washed and aired (daily airing) out even if they are only hanging in the closet. It's literaly not worth it to hang on to old textiles as those especially shirts will start to dry rot or begin foxing process (brown mold spots) just like some paper. Elastic clothings and synthetic fibres might become stiff and feel crunchy after a few years which makes them unsalvadgable. If there is a way you can convince the person you are helping out that their time is not worth it to care for rotted clothes you may change their mind.@@darleneh608
Turn one shoe in each pair around so one faces forward and one backward, and you'll automatically make more space. This also makes it easier to see all the important details of the shoes when you're styling an outfit.
Excellent idea!
Hello and hugs to Tracy (we went to school together in the middle of the US ::mumbles:: years ago!) - Tracy, I get it - I have ADHD, too, and share a birthday with Imelda Marcos. ;) I love shoes and the stories they tell, too. They are tricky to declutter! I am excited to follow your journey on Instagram and cheer you on from the States! I have been watching April for years and love her content. I am thrilled you guys are working together and excited for your decluttering journey. I dug in to my own stuff about a decade ago, and it's made a huge difference in my relationship, well-being, and space. Yay, Tracy! xx
I’m 77 yo and I don’t think I’ve bought that many shoes in a lifetime.😂
Same here.
She's doing really well! We're all cheering for her from the sidelines, like she's running a marathon, so she's not alone on her journey!
I love the idea of the great unhoard!
I wish I had the patience to take pictures or something of my shoes before letting them go, but I was more in a state of they have to leave my house immediately or they'll stay because I'll be too lazy to do that again the first declutter. The next 2, I was just gleeful to get rid of stuff & going "space, space, I have space!", lol. I'll do a last pass soon. I do one every change of cold/warm, but I'll have time soon, so I'll do a thorough full pass & that will be it. Then it will be just maintenance & only buying what's worth the use of my precious empty space.
what a beautiful home she has. the sun beams and the wood are so so lovely to me. I am so proud of her for this! I too am in the middle of a home clean out and this epi is SO motivating and so educating I appreciate both of you so much for sharing this journey on YT it is helping and bringing peace to others- you two are angels.
Tracey, you’re not a hoarder! You are a lover and collector of beautiful shoes, that remind you of places you’ve visited. I’m amazed at how loved most of your shoes are. I’ve known a couple of people who actually had dozens of pairs of shoes, never worn. That’s a waste. Looking forward to seeing you make progress. Thanks for taking us in your declutter journey. PS- your little puppy sleeping in the background is adorable!
Tracy-thank you for allowing us to be motivated and appreciate how good the hard can feel. Personally, this motivates me to stay on top of stuff- we lost our 160 yo farmhouse to fire in 2022 and the last couple years have been quite the roller coaster. Figuring out how and what we could rebuild AND having to be ruthless about the things we kept (we were able to salvage quite a lot from the house). Very stressful. One thing I know, I don't ever want to have to do that again. My solution will be to be very careful about what I let back into my home. As a side note, I do have a limited space to keep my "just in case" things-but they too will be sorted on a regular basis. Good job so far, good luck with the rest of the declutter!
I actually love her so much i cant wait to see her progress
She fabulous!
She’s
Maybe I'm desensitized after trying to help my aunt downsize a lifetime of stuff but this doesn't look like hoarding to me. She has a lot of stuff but nothing you couldn't take care of in a week or 2. Good thing she's young and willing to nip it in the bud.
I just let go of half my shoes. It is so hard to part with them. I only kept what would fit on my shelves ❤❤❤
I can relate to how hard it is to let go (of stuff), I’m glad she made so much progress, but where it comes to the great unhoard, I would suggest letting go of those things as you don’t want a pile of clutter lying around in your house which consists if a project that you will never get to. That’s what happens to me: I had lots of projects and I never finished them so I let them all go aside from one or two, and I’m still procrastinating on those so I have to remind myself to keep working on them.
Exctly. Im trying ERP therapy for this where I try to get rid of things & sit with the discomfort of having potentially given something way I will want later. Usaully, I don't regret what I end up giving away, but it's definitely a long, overwhelming process. Procrastination is a big one for me. It all just becomes too overwhelming. I see a lot in the video I can relate to & worry that the same predicament will unfold.
I had a similar problem with a pair of sandals of another brand. They fixed it but they were no longer that comfortable like before because they got tighter in the fixed area.
Oh she is so fun! I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see more videos with her!
What a great example of adapting strategies to a person and her place. Love her customized un-hoarding project -- choosing and documenting the stories and her association with special shoes before some of them move on. A creative approach which might take longer but will have personal meaning in the end. There are a lot of life and personal experiences embodied in many of the things we find hardest to part with and I'll bet Tracy's Instagram will also inspire others, who might take a quicker route but might not have started the journey otherwise. Thanks to Tracy for allowing us in. Great job, you two.
Tracey you got this! May sure to take care of your mental health in the process.
Tracy has so much energy! This will be a fun journey!
Can't wait for more!
Hi Tracy. Such great work. Keep going; you're in great hands
Great video. I recommend the channel A hoarder's heart. Might give you both more tools to go through the decluttering.
I just want to tuck all those shoe strings in the shoes so bad!!! I love the motivation for a good declutter! She is doing great especially since she has never done this with her clothes and shoes before! 🎉
💛
The fact that you are reaching out for help means that you will ultimately be able to make things better!
I am asking myself if flew market means, she is doing it herself ( and potentially bringing back all the not sold shoes...) or if it means she brings it to someone or a shop who is selling it. For me it always was a too big barrier to get rid of things myself. I am creative person too- I stopped keeping things "for projects" as I never ever was doing them. Also I think a no buying year or more could solve a lot of issues, as they are many things freshly bought. Uff, you two are doing so well and you are so positive! I definitely cannot handle a lot of things around me, I am immediately overwhelmed even watching this. And I am glad I got further and further in downsizing as its so much mor life supportive and healthy for me than keeping things...:)
Those are a lot of shoes, but a lot of them are really pretty, too, I understand that it was hard to let so many go. I love Camper shoes! Great start of your decluttering process, Tracey ☺️
Thank you Tracey for sharing your space and decluttering journey! It took me a long time to declutter my belongings. I looked over my belongings through many passes until I got to the point where I feel comfortable. And I'm glad I did this because I am moving this year from a big home to a smaller home with very little storage.
Tracey you are doing good. You took your first step to declutter keep going. It gets easier to let go of stuff as you continue decluttering.
I only have 2 winter boots, 2 rainboots, 2 sneakers, 3 sandals, 1 wedges, 4 flat shoes and 3 high heels. And still think too many 😂
I saw an art installation of shoes. I love your idea of a project for the items that have meaning, but are also leaving. Thank you Tracy!
Thanks for sharing some joy today! With all that's going on in the world, it really helps to see someone moving forward and smiling. And what an inspirational first pass! An awesome start!
If people knew how much it cost to retire they would be saving more money instead of buying more stuff.
I love throwing or giving things away from time to time so I don't get overwhelmed with stuff at home... Decluttering is fun
Great work Tracy! Such a big smile when that burden of clutter starts to lift!
Go Tracy!
What an amazing episode with so much respect and vulnerability from you both ❣️
I love her style ! She seems genuinely nice
oh wow and I thought I have a shoe problem 😅 I will save this video for the next time my husband gives me crap🤣🤣
Great job! It takes amazing courage to do this, to have someone help you that is basically a stranger, AND to share on video. Thank you. And I look forward to future videos! ❤
You are so supportive to this lady. Well done. Also, some people will be really happy with the flee market finds, because she really had good taste
First I've became a saver ..I had 3 fully furnished rental.places.Then I was described as an organized hoarder .Not wanting to be in that category.
I disciplined myself to downsize
at least 14 things a week . I've been doing that now for 3 years with some time off during extremely cold winter weeks. I was able to get a dopamine rush from giving instead of accumulating. I now am living in an organized less than average possessions place. I still have 2 totes of pictures to downsize. ..very emotionally hard to do. I can't tell you how many trips I made to Goodwill..how many expensive donated items..Now 20 large totes would be needed to contain everything I that I own..2 recliners 1 bed 1 curio cabinet..2 average tvs 2 coat trees..no dresser..4 tv trays.
That totally unfazed doggy is giving me life 💕
I’m proud of Tracey and proud of her for sharing her home.
I'm hooked. Can't wait for Season 1, E2. Lol
Bravo, ladies! 👏
Coming soon!
Great job, Tracey! You have some cute shoes! Keep it up! Great job, April! I love watching you help others declutter! Hugs to Izzy!🐈⬛ 👍🥰💜
Yes Tracy! You did sooo well! 💪 the muscles are a growin' ❤
Tracy you are going to feel so much better and proud!! Keep up the good work 😊
💛💛💛
One of my followers recommended your channel. Love this concept of making more space!
Wow, good job, Tracy! Keep it up 👍🏻
She is doing great. looked at my closet recently and felt over whelmed as I started to declutter I buy things to make me feel better and then worry about sunk costs.
Tracy did a great job pairing down some shoes.
24:27 Ask in the shoe repair shop if they’re fixable, they would know and they can also do it straightaway if they are indeed fixable.
Well done Tracy 👏🙇♀️ Asking for help is a big step and letting us into your home is huge. Wishing you continued success and can’t wait for the next episode. April you are so kind, caring, thoughtful and encouraging which is always needed when helping someone tackle a space. Omg the dog is ssssooooo cute. Have a great week. Mary, Joes wife 👏👏👍💪🙏💐🐶
I love her apartment! It's super eclectic and beautiful. Great job, Tracey!! 🎉
Tracey, It takes courage to do what you are dealing with. Thank you for being vulnerable. ❤ HUGS. It will take multiple passes and that is perfectly fine.😊 I do clothes rotation. I store out of season clothes under my bed.
She is adorable and I’m happy she is an artist!
This is so much progress ❤ great work!
Thank you!! 😊
tracey you did an amazing job girl❤❤ cant wait to see what else you can do in your space!
Now I can't wait for more! Good luck 🍀
More to come!
Its a good start.
That is so much better!
It was suffocating before.
At minimum needs to be done on yearly basis, if not every six months in order to avoid getting right back into the same situation.
When I see that level of clutter, I just see money that has been flushed down the toilet on things that are never or rarely used.
It keeps people poor.
Congrats on being brave enough to show people your situation and what can happen when we attach such meaning to "things."
A cautionary tale, to be sure.
Wow Tracey has a superb collection of shoes and has INCREDIBLE taste-it must have been very difficult to part with some of those beauties. Also such sensitivity and respect shown during this decluttering. Lovely video. 👠🥿🥾👞👢
Great start, Tracy! Just like my clothes, I pack away summer shoes.
This was so fun to watch, and I’m super excited about a new series on your channel. I can’t wait for the next episode! You both did this so well. ❤️
It is so satifying to watch someone declutter to make room for what matters most to them(their relationship, more time, more room to dance in the house, etc.).
Tracey, you did an amazing job! You should be very proud of all the work you have done.
Tracy is singing my song!!!! My clothing hoard is out of control!!!! I have a larger home than she does, so I'm able to "hide" some of my hoard a little better, but I have NO judgment of her situation. I think mine is worse. How many clothes and shoes does a girl who lives in Oregon really need? Well --- in my case, it appears to be a metric $hit ton. LOL .....
I would love to have some help like that and think Tracy is SO lucky to have you, Suitcase Designer, to help her improve her physical space, her mental and emotional health and just lighten up her spirit. She's great.
Seasonal storage is a great plan. She has great shoes!
Love it!
In the beginning of the video I had tears im my eyes imagining how hard it must have been for Tracy to be vulnerable & ask for help. By the end of the video I was dancing with you girls. Great job as always April ❤
P.S. I love your plants Tracy 🪴 ❤
