I have the same motor what does it mean if it won’t go into reverse it goes forward just fine but it when you put it in reverse prop won’t spin any clue ?
Did you cut the middle seat out and support the sides? Im wanting to do the same with my 14 to have a walk through, but don't want to weaken it I also have a 14 johnson Great motors Great vid Thanks
No, that’s how I bought it. I think the previous owner maybe added the foam from the middle to the back seat or just tossed out the foam. I didn’t notice any stabilization issues. Thanks man!
How many positions are there on the gear selector? I just got a 1994 and havent fired it yet. But it only has a forward and back position. I can’t seem to tell if pushing it backwards is putting it into neutral or reverse
It has 3. Try spinning the prop it should spin freely in neutral. Once the motor is running shift into all 3 positions sometimes the gears don’t fully move while the motor isn’t running. If it doesn’t shift into all 3 positions while the motor is running then the shift linkage is out of adjustment. There’s some good CZcams vids out there how to measure and set the correct linkage height that’s how I set my linkage
@@sacratboatingandfishing Finally got the new motor out on water today. It does have all 3 gear positions! Appreciate your info. It helped keep me off the ledge before I could get the motor into water. Thank you much!
Do you do side work off CZcams bro ? I have an engine I bought guy had it running when I was there I got home and it now doesn’t fire up when it does only for a 1 minute or two and it dies

Nice work! How come prop was rolling hard when shifter looks to be in neutral when you first started it ?
BTW.. the kill switch wiring doesn't matter.. the switch is open with the tether in and closed with the tether off ( short to ground)
