@@broadwayg1072 we hope to share it this week! :)
@@UNSEENTOKYO bayonetta 4 veola please
I'm scared to comment because of the risk of being blocked
3:28 I like blocking but I also like unblocking😄
Blocked
Too late we are blocked by a millisecond speeds soon as we clicked to comment ...
Honestly considering lots of devs social posting activities were mainly on Facebook and Twitter and how cursed these platforms were and are still, filled with neglected children, insane people and bots, just like all social media of today too so no wonder why they keep blocking people left and right and have developed zero tolerance over anything.
It really came to the point where I couldnt tell if someone is joking or seriously have issues ... So I ended up too either ignoring or blocking people. Eventually I just stopped logging in.
Insecto! 😅
@@Noqtis lol CZcams translated it😂
“I’m unemployed but not retired” I'm so happy to hear Kamiya-san say that
I also can’t wait to see more of Unseen’s first game, the industry needs japanese creativity more than ever
Agreed! 🤝 Love these two.
Thank you so much! We’re working to make our first game KEMURI a memorable experience.
I love how Hideki Kamiya is just an old-school nerd.
These kids dont know how real nerds used to be. Basically drill sergeants.
Even though I live in a completely different culture (I'm Brazilian), Okami managed to resonate with me in such a way that it changed my edgy 14-year-old self into a better person.
My grandma passed away knowing that I learned about faith, kindness and healing from "the puppy who draws" and I'm really grateful for that. Much love!
I was close to 10yrs late playing Okami but was going through a very rough time in life as well. It was such an uplifting game and just what I needed at the time. In a way; although I regret not being part of the initial sales; I'm glad I saved my first playthrough. I can't even recall what was negative in my life as it's been replaced with how adorable and fun Okami is to play.
Japanese studios set up by industry veterans, making youtube channels where they invite and talk to their old coleuges from the past is my new favourite genre. Thanks to Bokeh Studio's Golden Hour series and UNSEEN I have lived long enough to see the day where devs I admire just sit down and have fun while talking about games.
Thank you so much. We hope to produce more content like this in the future. Of course we are followers of Bokeh Game Studio and their amazing works.
I spoke to Toyama-san recently in Tokyo and told him how much I love their CZcams channel.
Masahiro Sakurai's CZcams channel is also an absolute banger it's like the same team that did the smash character move set reveals which were always edited perfectly and so fun to watch
Then Harada the like Director for the Tekken series has "Haradas Bar" where he had Sakurai on there too and talked and it was interesting to see
@@Spoooooked I know about them. There's of course more journalistic channels like Archipel and Cutscenes that have also given a huge look into Japanese creators.
I just didn't want to list off every single channel :D
In other words, people shouldnt take social media too seriously and being blocked isnt really a big deal at all. Decreasing my time on social media sure let me get in touch with reality even more and Im glad that I chose to do so.
In other words, hold my hand.
That's a nice sentiment but it doesn't work very well when you're blocking and antagonizing your own customers.
Hideki Kamiya is very talented. He's also very arrogant. He quit Capcom, did things his way at Platinum, and now he's asking Capcom to take him back and let him direct a new game while showing no humility.
That Ghost Ship level in Okami was amazing
#6 on Spookiest Vehicles in Gaming: www.thegamer.com/video-games-horror-spookiest-vehicles/
The honesty about the poor team synergy behind Okami only makes me appreciate how well it came out in the end. I don't think its a bad thing to know that great art can come from undesirable situations, especially if you can look back and laugh at it all.
I think that part of the game's greatness was how the few people who actually cared about the project gave their all to make it work.
This is actually more often than not the case when you try to build a "dream team" by picking all the best members from different departments. Judging from this conversation alone, I would guess Kamiya san was the kind of leader who saw talents more than characters, so the team dynamics was indeed in the hands of God.
It's like the Light in the darkness, just like the game.
Hideki Kamiya, in the first 2 minutes of this interview, uncovered the biggest flaw in Social Media. The Social Media systems only show you the bits and pieces of a conversation that will make you question and engage, but the systems do not show you the bits and pieces that would calm you down by providing the full answer. Because Social Media is built on engagement having users see the answer immediately would make them not interact any further, but interaction is what Social Media systems want the most. And that is why Hideki Kamiya receives the same question countless times - the system is built to not provide the answer he gave to it's users, just so they keep engaging with the system.
This is such a beautiful video. I don't think I've ever seen Japanese developers speak so candidly and honestly about their career, their own shortcomings and having genuine banter and laughs along the way. I think Kamiya and Nakamura are both in an interesting position right now: being either unemployed or independent, unshackled from the cold corporate structure of big game corporations in Japan, they can speak freely without worry of getting in trouble.
When every interview with a JP developer feels as formal as a Nintendo Direct, this is totally cathartic and refreshing.
Game developers and the efforts they make on a project are often unseen, so we hope to shine a light on that. The response to this video has been great, so we will continue to showcase game development as we go through our own development process.
Okami is so beautiful, one of my favorite games ever. The visuals, music, script, the characters... just an unique masterpiece. Thanks both for heal my heart with that amazing and beautiful game.
I can't thank you enough for creating DMC series!! Me and my friend played it for years, and it's a huge part of my childhood ^^
Okami has a very special place in my heart, it inspired my generation in many ways.
He also blocked u
This was very interesting. I also saw "The Eyes of Bayonetta" documentary. It's so cool to see how Ikumi has grown as a creator.
“Okami was supposed to have a bigger story”
Thats crazy to think about because when I played it, it already felt like it had 3 substantial stories contained within it.
True, when you beat Orochi you think the game is going to end then it's like the second half of the game it's actually "Okami 2" but it's still just Okami and to think that he wanted to make it even bigger it's truly insane.
Kamiya was truly working on the Doggie War and Peace
Shoutout to the team that put this video together! Felt like watching two friends talking about old times. Looking forward to part 2!
Thank you! It is created by the UNSEEN team (Liam, Freddy, Denise & Kyoko) - we hope to share Part 2 next week! ❤
He never blocked me. He liked my tweets every time I said good morning to him ✨️
Bro created my fav game franchise, I just love him.
BLOCKED
When I played okami for the first time in 2006, I completely fell in love with the game. At that time I worked in a game store in Brazil, I always recommended Okami to customers but unfortunately it sold very little, to this day it saddens me how such a wonderful game didn't sell as well as it should have. Thanks Kamiya and and beatiful Nakamura for such great games over the years!
Very enjoyable interview. I remember purchasing Okami for my nephew many years ago. He enjoyed and completed the game. I remember hearing the audio dialogue of the characters, so unique. What a magical world you two have created. Thank you for allowing this interview to happen and allowing us a window into the mindset of gaming creation. Bless.
Hideki Kamiya's a very talented person basically pioneered the Hack & Slash genre that we know today
I hope in next interviews you show cast achievements and successes before discussing the bad times in game development 👍awaiting more interviews with Japanese game industry legends 💪
Clover studios going under was criminal, the games they made were 100% bangers that just refused to sell well
Viewtiful Joe 1 + 2
Okami
God Hand
all of which were very dear to me growing up, i still play all of these every now and then
Thank you kamiya San and Nakamura San for Okami. One of the greatest games of all time for me it has a special place in my heart❤
Two of my heroes together. Kamiya and Ikumi
Okami, DMC, Bayonetta, GOD HAND, among others. We will not forget about God Hand. All gems of games. ❤
Okami has a special place in my heart ❤️
Love the candid conversation on game development. It's nice to know that every creator struggles with confidence, no matter how much success they've had in the past.
Haha, I liked how Kamiya and Nakamura san had an opportunity to catch up and reminisce about the good times they've had developing games and I really hope that they'll collab together again on a future project or more. Also, I'm looking forward to the follow-up and thanks for the upload of this video, too! 😎👍
I agree. Perhaps he should work at her company?! 🤝
大好きなゲームに携わっていたお二方のお話しが聞けて最高です!
Okami is still my favorite game of all time. ❤
Thank you for the opportunity to watch such an incredible discussion between two legends!! I absolutely cannot wait for part 2! ❤ If I may, I would also like to kindly point out an English subtitle error at 40:44 -- Kamiya says "Biohazard 1.5" (バイオ1.5), but this is translated in the English subtitles as "Bayonetta 1.5" (ベヨ1.5).
Thank you so much I think you may be correct - we’ll check it tomorrow and adjust it. It’s our first long format multi-lingual video so there are a couple of hiccups. Thanks for letting us know
@@UNSEENTOKYO No problem! I can't even imagine the amount of work that goes into producing these videos, they are insanely impressive! You guys rock!! ❤
I used to follow Hideki as I follow all the game directors I can. I never even wrote or reply to him anything (that I can recall) but I remember something happened that he got a lot of bad rap on twitter and out of the blue blocked almost every non speaking Japanese on his page. I mean it’s his page and he’s free to do whatever but I kinda always like to see what great directors view or knowledge they can share. Even as a blocked follower I still support him and if he ever returns with a great game, I’ll be sure to play it. Thanks for sharing!
Japanese guy just doing regular Japanese things like being Xenophobic lol
"Ah the OTHER Nakamura?" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Found this just a couple of days ago. What a gem of a video. Getting to know Kamiya and his stories is a treat. I can't stress this enough, this is so cool but at the same time very personal and intimate.
@@matheuszache7943 please look forward to Part 2 - it will be entertaining! We’ve now finished the edit and are doing some checks :) thanks for watching
A master of his craft. Also, a truly obtuse man. He's precious.
Kamiya in the early days of Twitter was a completely different guy. He responded to everyone and was enthusiastic and helpful. Then some weirdos kept asking him incredibly obscure questions about DMC and it broke him. From that point on his Twitter persona became a critique of Twitter itself, exclusive to Twitter. The real Kamiya always stayed the same though.
Cope hard, he racists that all, but people still keeps following him I don't understand how masochistic one must be.
What an absolute legend man my god. I probably will never get the opportunity to tell him but this man has had such a massive influence on my overall tastes in things from childhood. One of the GOATs, utmost love & respect for Kamiya-san.
I will email him this comment 🫶
(assuming he hasn’t blocked my email)
I LOVE THIS FORMAT and im sad we western devs will rarely have the chance to witness it due to PR-restriictions.
Two legendary devs just chilling and talking about their nostlagic experiences, no strings attached.
This talk was so personal... Thank you for the video, don't knew that Hideki so kind man)
From Clover Studios to Platinumgames to Igntion Tokyo to Tango Gameworks to UNSEEN. I will always love and cherish these developers and the amazing games theyve made over the years.
Thank you so much for this. Kamiya and Mikami are my 2 biggest inspirations as a game developer. Getting to hear him give his thoughts like this is such a joy!
Also, very much looking forward to KEMURI!
God, i love the intro and how Mr. Hideki Kamiya strike the pose "Let's rock" just like what Dante would do... and Ms. Ikumi Nakamura is like the Trish in that intro pose. Just plain awesome you got him as a guest... get Shinji Mikami next *^*)
All the best for the legendary Kamiya and the upbeat Ikumi-san... keep doing what you are doing and enjoy it to the fullest.
0:46 Was hit with a wave of nostalgia and then sadness at the idea that we'll never get a Evil Within 3 with more of Ikumi's designs
I really appreciate pieces like this, getting to know the people behind the works I love so much. I think it presents a great educational opportunity for those of us who want to become BETTER FANS, because the more we understand how this all works, the more we can offer more valid and effective feedback. Thank you!
To be honest, as time goes by Kamiya blocking anyone who he finds even moderately annoying resonates with me more and more. Twitter is a hellish wasteland of morons, if you aren't bringing me anything of value to my feed, you're wasting my time and potentially contributing to a worse mood.
It took me a few days to catch up and see this. Watching this did made me think of the old Iwata Asks. I hope you can share more interviews with other people in the industry too
What an incredible conversation and I appreciate the work putting it together. I will set my dinner in hex formation in honor and remembrance. 🤩
One of the best videos I have ever seen, thank you Unseen. Kamiya is a legend and I'm really glad that he is not retiring, would love to see him finishing Scalebound, because it was like a dream game for me, but I'm just excited to see him continuing his legacy and being happy. Nakamura is such an amazing person, would love to know more about her. Okami and Bayonetta are two of my favourite games, greetings from Brazil.
"perhaps Kamiya is a scary person, the way he sometimes responds on Twitter" I thought, watching this video and the ones on his channel where the truth is actually discovered.....he is a big nerd. I love nerd Kamiya, I see the passion that makes such a personality come to life.
It's really cool hearing all the hard work that goes into game development!
I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to Hideki Kamiya and everyone at Clover Studio for creating Okami! I still remember playing the demo on PS2 and instantly falling in love with the game. When I finally got my own copy and immersed myself in the story, my admiration only grew. Thank you for making my childhood beautiful and inspiring me to become a game developer (artist). You have been a tremendous inspiration to me guys, and after this interview I will always remember the words, "I'm just an ordinary person, struggling and struggling."
Thank you for existing and making me exist.
this is really nice :) seeing them back together again after making some truly amazing games
I like the ooooooo sound he keeps making
This is so cool, thank you for putting this together and sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
This was an incredible conversation to be able to listen to. Thank you for sharing these insights into Okami/Clover and just the human side of all things creative.
I really enjoyed watching you two reminisce about some of my favorite games of all time. Arigatto~! 🙇♂️❤️
That's a beautiful video, just amazing... all the talk about Okami and Nakamura just not giving a damn and talking about those Kamiya outburst, it's just great and fun to see, can't wait for the next episode
Thank you for the interview. We finally got the chance onow what goes in Kamiya's mind. The games he directed were amazing, and the pacing was always top-notch. I would love to hear more about his future plans and projects.
Fantastic video 🙌🙌
Shimoda-sans concept art for Devil May Cry is glorious, cool to hear Ikumi-san is also a fan!
Thank you for watching ❤
Okami is one of my favorite games ever, and hearing you two talking about it brought so many fond memories back.
Oh, hey, a video about Kamiya. He made my favorite game, Okami!
Oh, this interviewer worked with him? On Okami? And she had a hand in the moon cave, Ponc'tan, AND the sunken ship, aka the best areas in the best game? And the fun brush interactions I used to spend hours playing around with?
Can't wait for the next video. And whatever project she was talking about working on.
I loved this. I don't know who had the idea to have this chat but it was brilliant, these two are really funny. If it ever happens I want Okami 2!
Ikumi continues to be one of my favorite humans. Bless her.
Okami has been my favourite game ever since released. It made a huge impact on my life, and I do feel the word "healing" does describe Okami very well. Thank you for this video. I enjoyed it.
I think one of my favorite things about Okami really is just how everything looks and feels like a painting.
Such a precious conversation! Thank you for making these videos and sharing the memories with the world. Looking forward to the next one

「大神」のCGはフォトリアルにしないことで、返って永遠に古くならないゲームになりました。
(By not making the CG in *Okami* photorealistic, the game has become a work of art that will never get old.)
Okami is such a beautiful game❤❤❤❤ And even though there were big differences in the team, you put so much effort into it and gave us players such a great game, thank you for that!
Get Mari shimazaki next to interview
This video was so sweet, seeing both of you remembering things and being really kind while, at the same time, poking fun at the past problems (And I'm really surprised that we got so much stuff and there still a 2nd part!)
I do hope your company and game development is doing great and that Kamiya-san can do what he loves now and the future
What a lovely conversation! Just a small correction, when Kamiya is talking about the infamous 1.5 that Mikami allowed him to restart development on, he's almost certainly referring to Biohazard 1.5 and not Bayonetta 1.5, I believe.
Two legends of the videogame world, I will always admire their work.✨
Огромное уважение Хидеки Камии, за создание BioHazard2/ResidentEvil2!!! ❤❤❤ Очень интересная игра по сей день!!! Во многом превосходит ремейк 2019 года
Not a big fan of videogames, but i admire the whole efforts you put in every development. Also, is always interesting hear stories from creators.
The background music really suits the okami talk, so calming
It has been truly interesting to discover the details behind the development of Ōkami. Now I wonder what the "hexes" you both mentioned were all about.
*THE WONDERFUL 101 CREATOR, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN !*
I will keep your dream alive, Kamiya-san, by annoying literally every single human being to play it ! Until I die ! Because I owe my life to it.
I was just wondering about Ikumi and what she was up to, and this video appeared. Very spooooooky!
One of my absolute favorite games of all time, Okami is Masterpiece, Thank you for bringing to life such a beautiful game! ❤
Why is Ikumi so charming 😭
Thanks for the high quality content!
Really nice editing/production on this vid :)
Thanks for the kind words!
This guy is a legend holy
The other Nakamura-san story was funny. Once he remembered it, he started reminiscing about her.
I totally get your passion for Okami 2 and Viewtiful Joe 3. It would be amazing if Capcom and Nintendo teamed up to bring these sequels to life. Let’s keep the hope alive and keep supporting these awesome games!
This was very enlightening. I loved Okami back in the days. Thank you for the video!
absolutely beautiful interview! makes me more excited to get into the game making field!
@@celestialarchive4917 Thank you for watching and all the best on your journey
From the games Hideki Kamiya created, all of then had a gameplay focused in combat, and combos.
I honestly think its really cool how he always tried to come up with a new combat gameplay every game he created.
Great video, had fun watching it
I always thought it was the translator that writes 'insect' instead of a word like 'pest'. But turns out he really just calls them 'insect'. Haha.

Kamiya-san is quite polite if you reply to him respectfully.
Okami is one of the most underrated games even though it's also highly praised, i'd recommend anyone to play Okami at some point if they enjoy videogames, amazing game and i really wish Capcom made a sequel to it someday (that is not Okamiden).
I am not scared to say it, so let's cut the chase...
Dante The Sparda and Bayonetta The Cat are my favorite CEO's of style...
From A-side to B-side, straight SSS
We need more Okami and Devil May Cry. Pay him whatever he requires.
ah yesss.. my favorite Spooky Girl and Hideki Block-san.. its rare to see our favorite developer talking about themself , its always gain my attention
Great content and insight as a big Okami fan. I'm blocked Kamiya-san on Twitter, but I wear it as a badge of pride.
It really is a shame Platinum lost a very talented director and designer. Though something came to my mind recently, the projects that Kamiya-san worked on that saw release (and the ones he also wrote) were published by Nintendo.
Though I heard along the grapevine those Nintendo ninjas can be pretty scary.
Kamiya is such a legend,he has a perfect track record,he has never done a bad game,i was so excited to play project g.g😢
Hideki Kamiya doing the DMC1 Trish pose ! 0:33
I can't XD
I can’t get enough of these two talking, so looking forward to part two! By the way, at the end of the video Kamiya is talking about Biohazard 1.5 (Resident Evil) but in the subtitles it says Bayonetta 1.5 at 40:46
I love this video. I really gives insight within Clover Studio. Despite the low sales, I was one that bought not only Okami but Godhand day one! Some of the best gaming memories from both you and Kamiya-san. Cant wait to see whats in store from Unseen.
